Hi...

I'd like to show you my actual project.

The project bases on a standard kit of a Scania R620

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gc-e6b4.jpg

But it will be modified to a T580 Hauler. Something like this:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2876/11619597925_42e139187e_m.jpg

The modifications will be made by streching the frame and all needed custom parts will be build of styrene.

Let me show you some pictures of the creation until the actual state.

First I assembled the needed standard parts on a longer frame (plus 10.5cm) just to get an overview about the final size.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gd-e5f6.jpg

Now the modification started. The upper part of the grill must be cut of.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gk-069d.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-go-f5de.jpg

The lower part of the cabine must be cut off.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gp-a9a1.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gs-daca.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gt-30bb.jpg

The part I cutted of will not be thrown away, it will be the base of the to be modeled haule.

After that I started to build the splashboard (???)

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gx-acc3.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-gy-076a.jpg

As next part I started to create the side plates.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-h2-08c5.jpg

But now it's time to see the first glance of a hauler...

Now it was the time to start to build the hood. Main challenge was to get the same curve in the edges as the bumber bar.

To get the same form of the edges for the hood I modified the deflectors

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-h6-b2f6.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-h7-c399.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-h9-9cf8.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hb-44c4.jpg

After that they were cut down and glued to the cabine part I cutted off. In addition I added some styrene plates to stabalize the hood and to form the hood sides.

Next challenge was to build to upper part of the hood.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hj-851d.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hq-85fc.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hr-3871.jpg

In addition I saw that the side plate was too short. I had to stretch it by 5mm.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hs-a733.jpg

Next step was to add the side parts of the hood.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hv-4564.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hw-185c.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-hx-42e7.jpg

Now I started the most hated part, sanding, sanding, sanding, sanding....

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-i2-abd8.jpg

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-i3-26dd.jpg

And that's the state after the first sanding...

After a while I noticed, that the space between cabine and fifth wheel is too large...

Two possible solutions:
- New frame 5cm shorter
- Fill the space with something...

I decided to follow the second solution...

Hi,

two additions came to my truck.

1. The fifth wheel got an automatic mechanism to open it.

Hi...

Today I started with the lights for my truck. A time ago I saw a truck having daytime running lights and I decided to have this also in my truck.

First I made the drilled the holes

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-kc-19bc.jpg

After that I formed the fiber optic cables. They are surronded by a heat shrink tube.

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-kd-07c5.jpg

At the end a LED is placed.

And that's it...

Hi...

Longer time ago since my last post, so let me give an overview what happened in the meantime.

The rear light have been extended fro 3 lights to 6 lights per side.

After some time of building with styrene and brass I'd like to change to the electrics again.

I started to build a new board to give the truck a more realistic behaviour. The main features are:
- Realistic speed up and engine brake behaviour
- Realistic brake behaviour with an emergency brake
- Realistic steer behaviour depending on the speed
- Slow steering if the truck is stopped
- Automatic cruise control feature
- Heavy load - The speed and brake is more slow in the same way as it happens with a heavy load on the trailer
- Gear mode (forward, neutral, backward)
- If gear mode changes, the truck stops automatically in a realistic way
- Providing a brake light and a reversing light
- steering up to 4 steered axle in correct propotional behaviour

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/knqp-kt-5751.jpg

After that I went back to the back lights, they got their LEDs.

Amazing build. I'm attempting one myself, so I might use some of your ideas to help me along. I have a question regarding how your cab is mounted. I assume the hood/bonnet hinges forward. But does the cabin remain behind? Or is that hinged too? I also want to build the long cabin, to house my smoke system and various other electronics, But I'm still stuck with how to access it.

gismow
05-25-2015, 04:03 PM
Hi Louisbaby,

thanx... ;)

The bonnet is not mounted to the cab. It hinges to the front. It covers the main On/Off switch and also the charge connectors.

The cab is mounted in the front with two metal brakets. In the back I use the standard cab holder from the kit.

Here are 3 photos showing details:

http://up.picr.de/22033697ct.jpg

http://up.picr.de/22033698ju.jpg

http://up.picr.de/22033699bp.jpg

If you want to open to maintain your smoke system, you can replace the srews in the brackets by metal pins having a hole to plug in a metal cramo to keep the brackets un place so you only have to remove thre cramps (2 in the front, 1 rear) and you can pull off the cab.

gismow
05-25-2015, 06:42 PM
Hi...

Position 1, the battery is connected to the electrics
Position 2, the battery is connected to the charging connectors right next to the switch.

It gives me the possibility to charge the battery without removing it from the truck.

Hi Peter,

nice to meet you here. I think, I should subscribe to your building report, so I can improve my English. ;-)

Your SCANIA is very well built. You´re a expert for building with polystyrene. ;-)
