Got started on the build. Doesn't feel like I have much done when I sit back and look at it but there are just so many pieces its mind boggling. Started with a complete tear down of the axles to grease and thread lock all fasteners.

Inside the differentials. Someone voiced concern about them being made of pot metal but they look strikingly similar to the re-re bruiser diffs. Right down to the hardened steel planetary gears. Which have proven to hold up great on my bruiser even under brushless power. I recently took the rear axle apart and it all still looks brand new. For this reason I chose to use the same Tamiya ceramic grease in these axles.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/18/45e4e8c74890651ad356540a37ff1f5b.jpg
Wheels are 2.8 and they look to be about the same diameter as the RC4WD mud slingers on my bruiser.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/18/843bdc6e44f74d7c6a6c7c74ed7ecf71.jpg
A look inside the front axle. They use cvd's and have no 4mm nut holding on the hubs, just an e-clip.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/18/92b697f65fac84d4744fed7f30cdafd5.jpg
The first problem I encountered was with the tapping of the holes for the 6mm screws that hold on the diff cover. They weren't drilled or tapped deep enough to use a 6mm screw like the manual states. The axles came pre assembled and the screws were all sticking out 1 to 2mm. My fix was to shorten some screws. 4 of the screws that hold the diff on are short ones, the other 4 are 12mm as they secure into the 3rd member itself. Which meant I had to shorten the 14mm scale bolts I used as there aren't any in a 12mm size.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/18/e238cd9a6a38e9bd0a5ab96825f60e63.jpg
Completed front axle. Scale Bolts all the way around. The link mounts are 2 pieces that are screwed together with 4 m2 screws that clamp the axle, and an m3 screw is used to key them on the axle. I forgot to slap on both calipers for the pics.. Whoops.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/18/5ddd14d6cef0011dec64a25242692238.jpg
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/18/d17e203141016d69dd68a29112ffabcf.jpg
For the rear axle I decided to fix the 6mm screw problem differently. I drilled through the case and retapped the holes to accommodate the longer screws. It will add a bit more strength as opposed to shortening the screws. I considered going back and doing the same type of fix to the front axle but it took so long just to get to this point, I wasn't about to tear down the axle again.

Completed rear axle. The link mounts bolt on much the same as the front, this time with 4 m2 nuts though.

Lower links and the grommet and sleeve mounting method. Pretty scale. The uppers are standard ball type links.

More to follow soon. Hoping I can do more tonight. Im at the point where I need to start putting in some servos believe it or not. The steering and diff lock servos mount on the rear of the chassis. And 3 mini servos mount inside the faux motor housing. Need to hit the hobby shop.

Work continues, stayed up late last night and spent some quality time with the jeep. The bearings were really tight on the steering shaft, and very loose fitting into the housing. So i pressed them in with paper towel. Also shimmed the shaft so there is no up and down movement. End result was a nice slop free steering arm.

WOW, nice piece of kit! You must be one of the first to have this. Last time I checked they were still taking pre-orders.

Have been hoping someone would get one and start a build thread.

Thank you for that! Keep the pics and info coming :)

Looks like it will be a great vehicle when finished.

Cheers and congratulations!

Thanks. They're pretty much readily available now, even *** is selling them. I bought mine from the same guy I bought my Tatra from. He gave me a better deal.

I've always tried to stick to true 1:10 scale myself. All though once in a while a model comes along that is so cool I throw that rule out the window!

Finally got the steering working properly. It was proving near impossible to get the steering arm centered at the same time the servo was centered. Plus there was alot of play in the cables my first attempt. Had to get clever and mount a spare link to the arm and chassis to hold it still.

I found it necessary to trim most of the rubber grommets off the servo wires. They are awful close to the horns and I was worried about them rubbing. I needed to get a sharper bend out of them. Also zip tied them to the servos to keep them clear.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/50ffa79b0406c720e244b94a17b638e6.jpg
And got the servo bank all mounted up.

Mounted to axle.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/be6cd80c207bf7eb54facaa08e8d1852.jpg
Filled the shocks with oil. Don't forget the slime!
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/22420d7595e0495aed3f24cc021810b4.jpg
Decided to use some purple spacers here as there was over 2mm of slack.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/3b939d5b5a96e3bbea7ac67f3fc0b7b9.jpg
And this is where the real problems started. After getting everything mounted up. I noticed the travel up front was being limited by something. Turned out the axle was hitting the pan-hard bar mount. The immediate fix was to extend the pan hard bar but then the axle was WAY off center. At least it looked it to me... Others might not have noticed but it was driving me nuts. Notice how much shock travel is left at full compression.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/99fd04968980108154f36c3803b14352.jpg
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/e914231ea8996a94044655278754c155.jpg
What I ended up doing was shimming the steering box/pan hard mount off the frame a bit to give it more clearance. And living with the axle being just a bit off center. It rubs now, but at least it has almost full travel now. Hoping after things break in it wont be an issue.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/12f5b3d1ef162949a707e83663297889.jpg
And heres where I'm at now with it. I spent a large portion of the day on this thing but the progress doesn't seem to show it. Its slow going being as meticulous as I am with something with so many parts....

Hi Prop, looks like their quest for realistic scale has infringed on the suspension. Seems like you found a solution though. On the pictures I can not make out if the axle is of centre. Did the oil for the shocks come with the model or is that an extra purchase? Looking forward to your next update. Must say the parts look meticulously machined.

If you are going to use the Jeep a lot you might have to trim the steering from time to time due to cable stretch. I guess they have provided the means for that.

Trimming the rubber of the servo wires ... neatly done! I would probably have nicked the wires themselves trying to do that. :)

Its hard to tell in the pic but the axle more to the right, and under compression it gets closer to being centered. No oil or grease is included. I threw in some 30wt. Yup there are adjusters for the cables. And the trimming the rubber wasnt bad trick is to use a nice sharp exacto and bend the grommet while making light cuts. If that makes any sense...

I wasn't able to get to work on this last night, but i managed to get a few hours in tonight. After making sure everything was thread locked and tighten up on the front end, I noticed yet another issue. This it the pass side sitting normally.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/8a16de8e08e2795a6a128cacf77c89e1.jpg
And this is under full compression. Notice how much shock travel is left, and that the steering link is touching the frame.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/ed0d3824aa97cf21395a483cbb72c23d.jpg
My solution was to bent the steering link into more of a strait link then the bend it came with. Seeing how it needed to be lengthened anyways, it worked out perfect. Steering kink as it came in the kit.

And after a date with a vice and some pliers.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/8c93b50f5e6da5aad538feff2ad05ca1.jpg
End result. Problem solved. Link now touches the frame right at full compression.

Then I came across an issue with the front frame mounting to the middle frame bars. The holes they say to screw into in the manual isn't threaded. You can clearly see where it was drilled out after anodizing.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/eb1577a1be8f8509388b44e9b11edf8a.jpg
My solution was to put a nyloc nut on a longer bolt.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/ff22d865f3b063f1d5867205b66d80e9.jpg
The manual states m2x6 screws to mount the wheels on. But as you can see, theres maybe 1-1/2mm of thread sticking out the back side of the wheel. I chose to use an 8mm screw instead.

So heres where the real disappointment comes in. The steering seems to, well.... SUCK! I have dialed out all the slack, to the point where all i can do now is back off the adjusters, and rewrap the cables on the servo horn to tighten them back up.. There seems to be a lot of cable stretching. But with out even any real weight on the truck, the steering is struggling to center itself. Granted it might work fine while its moving, but I cant see it performing very well while crawling or under moderate bind situations. Take notice of the actual servo horn in this video. Its a 425 in/oz servo and is crazy strong. But the setup looses so much by the time it gets to the steering arm.
http://youtu.be/yo61bnruUCM
I smell a chassis mounted servo in this rigs future. Looks like theres plenty of room at this point. The motors sitting a little crooked but you get the idea.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/b5d1b55bc2dd386212c55531d3cc5d41.jpg
Bit of a size comparison. I set it on top of my Capo 8x8, which is a huge, true 1:10 scale tatra.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/25/ef4fd41dfcd6a6dea93c28fb8b8fed4d.jpg
Its actually a bit wider then the Tatra.

Neat solution on the steering linkage! You are a brave man bending things on such a pricy kit. :)
Weird that they choose to have the steering done by cables. Even more so with the distance between servo and steering. Maybe, like you say, gets better once moving. But that self centring is indeed a bit of a worry.
Nice progress though! And putting it on top of the Tatra makes me realise it's even bigger than I thought.
This is going to something else once finished!

Stephan.

Thanks. Turns out I didnt have the steering rod oriented the right way. The instructions were very vauge. The bend in the link was supposed to face forward and not up. Still im fine with the end result.

The gears in the gearbox and transfer case look up to the job, not like the brass gears they used in the Capo. I presume the brass on the motor will be up to the task and in worst case would be a sacrificial part?

Outer casing looks very well finished and realistic. Like the transfer case brake. Just like on the Defender I used to have. (although there it was drum brake).

3 servos. Guessing one for the gearbox, one for the transferbox and one for the brake?

All in all very neat kit, nice machining/casting on the parts and looks like excellent fit too.

I guess by the time you finish this build I will be sorely tempted ...

Stephan

Yeah all the gears with the exception of the pinion are big and beefy, and also hardened steel. The pinion could be considered sacrificial, if I knew where I could get a replacement. Having a helical cut makes it pretty unique as far as pinions go.

The brakes are an interesting animal... Im not sure how usefull its going to be, but i plan on controlling it with a dial. So it can function as an adjustable drag brake on the fly. Are you talking a 1:1 landy that had a brake like this? Or a scaler?
This kit overall shows some pretty presice machining. I cant however vouche for the tapping of the screw holes. Im constantly finding ones not tapped deep enough for the specified screws, and one on the trans case wasnt tapped at all.
I would say to anyone if you dont mind having to perform numerous small tweeks and modifications, you will be more then happy with this Jeep. Im not even a jeep guy and I love it lol.

So I made a trip to the local hobby store today, and boy my wallet payed for it...
I was looking for a dx8 or futaba 7 channel but all they had was a DX9. A hefty price tag but I rationalized it by telling myself this will be the last transmitter ill ever have to buy. Im good at convincing myself I need to buy things lol. Now I can install servos and make sure they are centered properly. And I have my switch layout mostly figured out now. Plan is lights and a winch for the extra channels. Work will continue tonight!

Yes, the Defender was (or is, still not sold, sitting at dealer on consignment) a 1:1 truck. Very very nice car if you like primitive, noisy, cramped and kind of unreliable :) ... Wouldn't have used that on the fly though, would probably rip the whole transmission to pieces. After going trough some reasonably deep water and then parked it up with the transmission brake applied, the bloody thing would rust and be a real pain to break it free.

Don't know about your Capo, but on mine I had some cross threaded screws, a couple of holes without thread and the load bed didn't fit. The holes were off with about 3/16th inch. Seems they have not improved there. Doing all those little tweaks does make building it more interesting.

Noticed there are some companies selling helical gears, so you might be lucky to find one with some searching. Or a good machinist should be able to duplicate it. If you are really going to use it in rough terrain, I would take some measurements and pictures of it.

For the brake, have you thought of putting/gluing some thin felt as pads? Might make them more controllable.

I see you as good at convincing yourself as I am ... ;)

What is that brake intended to be used for?

I had similar issues with my Tatra. With exception that I can muscle my bed on, the hole dont line up perfect, but enough to get the screws started.

I may be able to find some pinions for this, havent really looked.

On my jeep if i deem the brake usefull i will look into some sort of pad, felt idea isnt bad.

Ive gotten pretty good at convincing myself, my wife on the other hand....

Ahh ok. Thats weird. So if one were to park on a slippery slope and apply the parking brake. The rear diff could unload and the vehicle could go shooting down the hill! Lol

Got some work done on the jeep last night. I had to elongate the holes on the servos in order to screw the engine halves together.

You screw one side of the servos in, then the other sides after the engine halves go together.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/28/318e6ccb0ec6a4fec6cad24922d86116.jpg
I had to take the oil pan off in order to rout one of the cables through the transmission.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/28/3bce65d13cb5239a947d4f39f3c4e784.jpg
Then I encountered a problem. The hole where the cable comes out is to large. It swallows the cable sheath.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/28/70c9f401adca4fcf8b2335e7ca27a3f8.jpg
My solution was to take one of the spare brass cable mount pieces, (not sure what they're called) and remove some material from the side of it so it would fit into the hole. I had to do this because the side of the transmission case is very close to the hole.

I had a bit of a problem adjusting the servo for the brake. It was working fine, then it got a mind of its own, then it just stopped working. After spending some time trying to figure out what was going on, I realized my 2s lipo was basically dead. So i swapped it out, and still the brake servo wouldn't respond. Turns out I have a dead servo. I ordered 4, but now i dont have one to mount the steering wheel to. Heres the brake lever with brakes off

Looks like a lot of work threading all those cables. Should install the diff lock cables on my build but keep finding excuses to put it off.

Dead servo ... after all that work going to be a hassle to replace. Maybe I should dig out my servo tester and check/center mine before I install them.

Hi,
I think it's a fantastic build ! Very detailed.
Could you provide / give some dimensions of this build please ?
Wheelbase, width, how big is the body please. I still have a big body lying around at home, and always wanted to make a nice chassis for it, this one seems so cool.
Thank you !

Thanks. The wheelbase on this is right around 14-1/2". Width is about 10-3/4"
As far as how big the body is, thats a little hard to say at this point because its literally in about 2 dozen pieces. Ill have a better idea as I start getting the pieces painted and assembled.

Then I moved on to the dash. The gauge cluster is printed on thin plastic, the idea is lights behind it shine through. The directions are unclear, but there was only 1 clear piece to cover the printed cluster, and the gauges came all warped in my kit. So I cut up a scrap piece of lexan to sandwich them and keep them flat.

For the rest starting to look like you're almost finished apart from sorting out the electrics. Where is the ESC, receiver etc. supposed to go in this model?

I think i have the paint issue sorted out. Picked up some duplicolor etching primer and some blue that is pretty close to the tamiya blue. With the exception that its metal flake. Primer seems to be sticking pretty good. I primed and painted a test panel so we'll see after its cured. Wont be much for updates anytime soon as I have a lot of stripping and painting to do. Im also working out the details on LEDs and a controller. At least theres some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hey Stephan, good to hear from you. Im hoping this paint holds up better then the previous attempt. My test panel showed real promise but it also had a few months to cure...
I think Capo may have realized they over engineered the cable steering set up. Its just not strong enough. Probably why Ken sent me the chassis mounted bracket for free.
Ken ended up sending me two replacement cowl peices, the first got bent just as bad as the first one, most likely during shipping. The second time he shipped it in a box. It was slightly bent, but not enough to where i couldnt massage it back into shape. All is good now!

Small update today. I spent most of my available time today getting more paint laid down.
Started by filling some casting marks on the rear gate.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160117/6f03b8236f1204fab887ff403589a217.jpg
Then made a panel out of styrene to match the 1:1

Covers up some of the screw holes nicely
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160117/d0e45fcd4b19211bd8037b0a89c410a3.jpg
Then I had to do a repair job on the radiator. The mounting brackets are super weak and kind of crumbled away. I tried repairing them with some tenax but they just werent strong enough.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160117/6b1c0a0de46243c519129ec048fbf688.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160117/e1a4eb89aef780adafb677436ea52592.jpg
Down to the hood and doors left for paint. Its taking alot of time as each panel is getting 9 to 10 coats between primer, paint and clear coat!

Worst part is I hate painting.... Its coming out well though so im happy.

The Lighting setup on this is actually pretty complicated. The dash lights will operate with parking lights. This is going to have all the lights the 1:1 has and they will operate accordingly. Im even trying to figure out how to put a switch in the dash for a dome light....just need to figure something out.

Havent done anymore spraying yet but, Ive decided to paint the fender flares body color. Started to mask them off.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/250e79022101a23c12771d8dad258cb0.jpg
Something not included in the kit are spark plug wires. They give you these nifty spark plug type things that secure the valve covers on, but no wires for them like Ive seen in some online pics. So.... Figured Id whip some up. Started by drilling some 1/8"x1/8" styrene. I chose the proper size drill bit to allow these to friction fit onto the spark plugs, which is needed because they need to be removed in order to disassemble the motor.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/db08da21770bb11c03befea0cf0e5a82.jpg
Then I drilled for some small elastic type stuff I had laying around.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/390a9b161b33fbc966d7421fbafca699.jpg
Chucked the stock in my drill to round off the squareness.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/d56e88965063ac8b439a6b09e70d88ae.jpg
Used some styrene tubing and a file to contour the end to fit against the first piece.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/001973ecc57605d9afe1bd569b9950ea.jpg
Cut it to length, and slid it over the wire material.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/67cbc31102fdb90f32a6c0d2f2e21370.jpg
Then insert wire into first piece with super glue.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/63007f6d39a5add3329dee421c747615.jpg
Let super glue set up. Then tenax the styrene pieces together.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/f5ba20869769cd254b6438de1869097b.jpg
Make styrene dust.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/2b171a9ced2c73e6e5844a3122d5ae77.jpg
The finished plugs, glued into their respective holders provided by Capo. I realize this isnt exactly scale... the plug wires seem to come out of the engine block, but when everything is assembled, it wont be very noticeable.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/9712cbd7c933643b048b39d53f4c23f3.jpg
One of the few things Capo did not make for this kit, is an exhaust system. Its really been bugging me and I feel like it should have one. It doesnt make much sense to me to go all out and leave something like this out. So I pulled some parts from a 1:8 static model kit I have, and will be using them to build an exhaust for this.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160124/2f17ba54bb11e93b9238206a8c2c9769.jpg
Again, these need to be removable in order to loosen the servo screws so that the engine can be disassembled. So I drilled and tapped for some some scale hardware that will accomplish that.

I used some exhaust parts from the 1:8 static because they were the same diameter as the styrene tube I had and made making the first bends really easy. Almost like cheating lol. I used earth magnets to hold the pipes to the manifolds because theres so much going on with engine, servos, motors etc, and want to be able to take it out if needed, with as little hassle as possible.

Been thinking of taking the TATRA apart and selling it, but like you, not really looking forward to it. Just not enough time.

Neat job covering the holes. May I ask what material you used for the one near the gear shift?

Lol, its a frankencover. Occasionally I come across things I buy that are packaged in vacuum formed styrene packaging. I always keep these. I found one that had a shape I liked so I based the cover off a peice I cut out of it. Then finished it off in styrene and 2 different types of filler. Ive decided I'm in for the new Tatra. Should have it by the end of the month.. Not sure what to do with the first one though....its still sitting on a shelf unfinished.

Congrats on the new Tatra! You could put version one on eBay ... Am sure someone will take it of your hands. Had people in EU interested in mine, but postage and insurance was a deal breaker.

Neat that you got that shape from some old packaging!

Thats kinda the same boat im in. Shipping from Canada is retarded. I really miss the US sometimes. Someone would have to want one really bad if Im to recoup my investment and over come the shipping charges.

Painted the covers I made. Im attaching the drive shaft tunnel with scale hardware and the transfer case cover is glued to the transmission tunnel.

Then tackled some wiring. This is going to be the hardest part of this build, especially when I get to the engine bay. Using boxed styrene as wire chases, and two sided tape to attach to the inner quarters.

I found some boxed styrene that fits inside the rockers as well. These have to carry the 6 led wires as well as one of the battery wires. It was a tight squeeze getting the wires fed through.

I exaggerate. Its just not one of the aspects of a build I enjoy all that much. The engine bay is going to be hard to conceal witing and make it look real. Not really looking forward to it. But I do have a couple ideas.

I wasn't able to accomplish much today. But got a little bit done. Fixed something that was bugging me. Since I had the body tore down for wiring, I sprayed the front door pillars in body color. They were still in their black anodized glory, and I really felt it threw off the look whenever the doors are off or open.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160214/620b48f5326dabccc2fc85bb11e967c5.jpg
I also wasn't happy with how the b-pillars looked from the inside. Too hollow.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160214/e7fd4c3cbc78a17f6c0ea1b2247177b5.jpg
So again I went to the boxed styrene to give the pillars some much needed "mass". They look somewhat structural now. Plus they serve as nice wire chases for the dome light.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160214/72afb8abe07a21c9960674968a608c0e.jpg
Painted them body color. I have then glued in with some e6000. Keeping them clamped till the glue sets up good.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160214/2d54916cca12b6a0c378834ede424a5d.jpg
Got the other rear lights all ready to go as well.

Small update. Spent a few hrs tonight working on the dome light. Made a lens from some clear styrene.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160219/8d8079f9e35449968fb0a31a582c4b20.jpg
Then I used more boxed styrene that fit snug into the top of the roll bar for a place to mount a switch and an led, as well as a wire chase.

I slid various sizes of styrene strip into the boxed tube and glued them in to lock everything in place.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160219/4387fa5ab6c133f91756d20473f0d5be.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160219/280aa4bd30bfda62fbf458914c026acb.jpg

Once you finalise this build and take a picture of the jeep in a suitable setting it will be hard to see it is a 1:10 model!

Yeah wiring this is pretty much a pita. I dont want the engine bay to be balls of wires and electrical components like I see on these Jeeps elswhere. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a scale engine and opening hood.

If I take a photo of this thing finished in a good setting would it look like a 1:8 model I wonder?...:cop:

Oops ... a slip of the keyboard there ...

With you on the cable mess in the engine bay. Will be interesting to see your solution there!

One advantage of te 1:8 scale is that the receiver and ESC don't look too much out of proportion. What ESC are you using? Was thinking that one from Servonaut might be flat/small enough to disappear in the engine bay.

Ive got a Novak Eiger that Ive had laying around unused for a few years now. Its pretty small and can handle the recommended 3s lipo with an external bec. More importantly it has zero reverse delay. No need for drag brakes. You can see it in the last pic posted.

Put some more time in on this. More wiring... Ugh.... Racked my brain a bit to figure out how to mount the Heyok light controller. Great controllers, but a bit hard to mount in this type of build. Heres my attempt. Started with some styrene.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160222/5f79176ac53f350e365e9664ce17f177.jpg
Had to cut a notch out of the bottom of the dash to receive the wire chases.

While I was at it, I decided to change up how the dash mounts. Originally mounted with 2- m3 screws, but these are pretty much inaccessible after all the electronics are in. Seeing how the dash will need to come out in order to remove the body, due to some electronics being concealed there, and some plugs that will need to be disconnected, I swapped in some Tamiya body mounts instead. The pins can be pulled from underneath.

Hi Prop Shaft, after seeing the new RC4WD automatic transmission in another thread on here and reading the trans can become hot during use, I was wondering if you have had a chance to give your enclosed motor and trans a good run yet and does it get hot like the RC4wd one ?
Also have you got a vidoe of it in action ?

Cheers Tracy

I havent driven this model at all yet. The only use the trans has seen was a few minutes of bench testing, to get the servo points set for shifting. Which I am going to have to do again as ive decided to change the motor to a 55t and I've completely changed the radio channels since intitial set up. Maybe Ill take a quick video of the shifting action when I get to this part for you.

I wasnt aware the rc4wd trans runs hot. Which one are you refering to? The CVT or the scale V8 one? Im not to concearned with his one running hot. Its got some venting in the front.

Wow thanks for the compliment! Im pretty proud of this one. Ive managed to turn a standard kit build into a build more labor intensive then anything I've done ever done. Lucky me! Lol. This being an 1:8 scale has made it a bit easier to hide stuff for sure. But Im still on the fence about a sound unit. It comes down to smaller battery with a sound unit or no sound unit and a big battery... Im still mulling this over, and looking for ways to maybe get both.

Found some time to work on the wiring a bit.
Finished up the front lights. Hi/Lo beams, parking lights, and turn signals. The turn signal lights will only function as hazard lights as im not really that fond of turn signals tied to the steering.

Finally received all parts I've been waiting on, so getting back at this. I decided to try out the sound unit Capo sells for this. Standard Sense unit is all it is. After watching a couple videos of it in action, I decided to give it a try. Though in keeping with the "scale" nature of this build, it needed to be concealed in a clever way, along with the battery. Which is another feat all its own. For some reason I feel the need to stuff the largest battery possible into my builds. Its tough to hide things on this due the fact that everything is open. Engine bay, interior, trunk area etc. Here's what I have come with in an effort to keep it scale. Something along the lines of a Tuffy storage box. Heres the 1:1 inspiration.

I started by hacking into the Sense sound unit to make it fit into my dimensions. I had to shorten it, and flip the board around so I could still have access to the buttons.
