Hello,

I'am building a Kenworth T950 for severall years now.
The scale is 1:12.
First it was a truck with a real engine, but there where to many problems.
I build a electic motor in it. Now I can drive annywhere.

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture10013-p1010121.jpg

This my truck.

Ok, there is more to tel. I get other tayers. I'am building a new gearbox, and more.
Thats the problem with me, everytime there is something new to change I build it and it has to work.

greatings,

Hello,

I did order new tayers, but the are not the right.
I have to make them smaller.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture23502-om-de-band-pas-te-krijgen-moet-een-helft-van-de-velg.jpg
I cut them in half, and removed the middel part.
Put it back toughter again.

It was a lot of work to do 8 tayers.

hello,

It is a little bit late, but everybody a Happy New Year.
I don't no if there are people on this forum living in Queensland
the floating is here also on the news. To all there ,be strong.
Here in Holland we now what water kan do.

I build a new gearbox, because the old one I had made from a
Accudrill machine. It was slower than a turtle.

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture53200-p1000491.jpg

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture56238-de-oude-versnellingsbak.jpg

This is the old one. It has a reverse in it, because the truck had first a real
engine.
Now I got a electric engine so the reverse is not needed anymore.
the old one had two gears. slow and very, very slow.

the new gearbox has four gears. Now I got even a race mode.
To operate the gearbox you need two servos.

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture10020-dit-de-versnellingsbak-de-bak-heeft-vier-versnellingen.jpg

To shift gears you move a wheel (I don't now the real word for it)
over the axe

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture56239-het-tandwiel-dat-over-de-wordt-geschoven.jpg
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture56247-p1010004.jpg

So far so good. The gearbox fits into the chassis. Now I have to build the
electric engine into it.

Wow. What sort of engine did the truck have before? Or what size? Something like a nitro 2 stroke, used for an RC off road buggy? I'd have to approve of your changing that out for an electric drivetrain. You get a lot better performance and smoother control that way.

holland trucker erik
03-02-2011, 02:01 PM
Hoi, Espeefan,
You got that right. It was a two stoke nitro engine 6,5 cc.
It was not only the better performance, but also the hot oil from the engine burned into
the paint. The only thing thats missing now is diesel smoke.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture24596-de-oude-verbrandings-motor.jpg

The sound off a 2 stroke engine is not a good sound for a truck.
I have now a " sound generator" from servonaut that is a real truck sound. It's great.

Another reason for putting a electric engine in the truck is that I now can drive in the house. No more tools for getting the engine startted only a battery.

hello,

I'am trying to get more details working.
One off them are the windscreen wipers.
The problem is the narrow space. Al the moving parts have to fit in the
dashbord.
Annother problem is that each wiper is moving in the opposite site.
I did try to make a drawing in window paint, so here he is.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture63168-ruitenwisser.jpg

To find a motor was not difficult. I use a mini-servo for it.
So I get to work. according the drawing.
Ha ha ha. It's working, not verry fast, but still.
All so it dosn't go the hole way. Only a half windscreen. This is the problem off a little space

I'am also trying to get the search lamp working.

Now the truck is getting finshed.
The trailers are the next project. The first trailer is all most ready, but i got some guestions.
How much cow's are going in one trailer?
How they the cow's on the second deck?

As longs as your build to to the scale length, height and width of your truck the ### of cattle can vary from x amount to x amount...............

hello,
I'am building the 2 and 3 trailer from wood.
The dolly I make from aluminium.

The "bridges" , I don't the real name , between the trailers. They have to work.
I use old servo's with a spindle to open and close the "bridge".
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture80211-kenworht-t950-044.jpg
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture80213-kenworht-t950-115.jpg
The problem is to let the different parts open and close in the correct seguence.
It start to open with the first part the floor after that the two sides.
But to close it, it has to start with the two sides.
Also a problem is that the floors off two trailers overlap each other, so they cann't start equal.
I do think some electronic will do the yob.

holland trucker erik
04-30-2012, 11:25 AM
hello,

here annother update.

Livestock is a problem. I got already a cow and a bull, but they don't like each other.
(sh.........).Hahahaa.

The reason for having no videos is that the driving off the truck is not without problems.
Only one driven rear axles is the problem and the both axles have separate springs. So when the second axles is standing something higher, the first will lift from the ground.
Also the driven axle is a rigid axle.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture105653-kenworht-t950-oude-achteras.jpg

To solve this problem I bought two rear axles from Tamiya.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture105655-kenworht-t950-de-beide-nieuwe-achterassen.jpg

they do not fit on the the truck. So I have to make some parts to let it fit.
First I had to made new springs.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture105656-kenworht-t950-het-nieuwe-veren-pakket.jpg

And the axles I have to adjust.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture105659-kenworht-t950-extra-onder-delen-voor-de-achterassen.jpg

Hello,

Here a update.
First, thanks for the compliments.

It did take some time before I got back to build of the project.
It was verry busy at work.

YES i did it. And it fits.
I had to build some more parts to get the axles even.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture105662-kenworht-t950-nog-meer-onderdelen.jpg

Then I put it under the chassis.
Some adjustments I made and YES it does fit.:)

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture105663-kenworht-t950.jpg

Now I have to build the shaft from the gear box to the axles.

Hello,

Here a picture with the paint on it
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture122140-nieuwe-achterassen-kleurtje.jpg

I made also the two shafts and it works.
I do make it al by hand. So things like the shafts are a little problem.
But when it does work it is great.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture122141-de-aandrijfassen.jpg

To rebuild the rear axes the rear bumper has to come off.
Now it is the time to build a new bumper.
I did build it from wood.
this is the new bumper.

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture122142-nieuwe-achterkant.jpg

I did have some time.
So the steering axel did have a smal servo.
The servo was not strong. I build a big one in it.
Now it the wheels move in both directions when the truck is standing stil.
I do hope that the truck is steering well when it drives in reverse.

http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture122143-andere-stuurservo.jpg

this are the things I did the last weeks.

hello,

The problem is how to extend the axes.
Now I do need some help, because I don't have a "Lathe".
So I got help, and in a evening I had the parts I needed.
So here the the build.
Before I start with the axes I had to put the rear bumper on and connect the lights.
First the extensions on the Tamiya axes.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture129237-kenworht-t950-006.jpg
It is always nice work when it fits.
In the extension I put a 4mm bolt. The bolt is so long that second wheel wil fit on to.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture129238-kenworht-t950-007.jpg
Now I put the first wheels on and put a screw-not before it, so the wheel is stuck to the extension. This is inportant because I have now a connection between the axes and the wheels.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/members/erik-vos-albums-australische-road-train-kenworth-t950-picture129239-kenworht-t950-008.jpg
After the first now it is time to put the second wheel on and the rest off the fenders.
This is the result from the update rear axes , fender and bumper

hello,

Here a litle update.

The truck is driving great with the new axles.
I'am hope to make a movie from it, with some help.

The last time I was busy with making transport boxes for the roadtrain.
I don't now if it is common for you all to build these boxes, but in our country it is normal.
I visit somethimes other events in the country.
To get the trucks safe in and out off the car, is already a challenge.
And the drive to the events brings also some damage to the trucks.
Thats why I build boxes.
Here a picturefrom the boxes.

hello,

Just another update.
The colors off the trailers where not great. They where a little bit dusty.
So here the new color.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-C4CGSZSK.jpg

I'am also busy with the " bridges" .
I used old servo's and removed the electronics, so they are used as a motor with a spindel.
this is working perfect.
My first thought was to let the "bridges"work with electronics.
This is not for me, I do not get it.
But i got a solution. I build a cylinder with a time frame on it.
The cylinder let the servo's work. With limit switches on the servo's to control the max limit.
I do hope jou can follow me.Here some pic's

The truck got his own "Truckie".
It was difficult to find a truckie, because 1:12 is not to get in anny store.
The are t o big or to small, but I get one.

To let it operate, I had to rebuild it.
He has to steer the truck, shift the gears and look where he is going.
Thats a lot for one truckie. :)

He becomes a pretty nice guy.
this is him.
