Spent a couple hours last night fitting some decals on the lowboy trailer. I'm pretty happy the way it turned out.

Such a great looking combo. I wish that lowboy was around when I was looking for one. so when are we going to see pics of the truck hooked up to this nice load?

Is that actual no skid tape I see on the excavator ? Nice touch, I might steal that. :)

Thanks guys :D Mario I'm waiting on a light bar and some leds to finish up the rear bumper before I put everything back together. Sure is grip tape picked it up off amazon, stuff is fairly easy to work with and sticks well. Really happy with the lowboy trailer the excavator sits perfectly on it  Here's the lightbar on order http://www.pargustore.com/1-14-truck-led-warning-light-orange.html

Thanks Jim I picked up the tank off of ebay. At the time the seller was selling them individually. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-desigan-Tamiya-1-14-KING-HAULER-Full-metal-tank-/321910459736?hash=item4af35bcd58:g:h0gAAOSwYHxWOHb Z

Great combination with excavator, trailer, excavator cab internals and operator.. I also like the anti slip material you applied to the excavator , I may have to copy that one for my 4200... My next purchase will probably be that trailer, but I want to try and pull it behind my 8X8 dump truck with a dolly.

Northern Farmer
01-28-2016, 11:54 PM
Thanks that would be pretty cool pulling a lowboy with a dolly. One thing to note is this particular lowboy has a pretty low clearance to the ground. If running a dolly the fifth wheel would have to sit high enough so that the trailer clear's the ground enough without rubbing on everything.

Nice stuff, would like to see more of the truck, especially hooked to the lowboy! How do you like those stacks? I have a set of those myself but have mixed feelings about them.

Northern Farmer
05-11-2016, 10:50 PM
I like the stacks actually, I had a hard time finding them. I find they look more realistic then the one's I had before with the aluminum brackets attached to them and to the body. Also thought it kind of looked funny before with the stacks below the chassis you can clearly see that they go no where lol. Atleast the Rigid stacks mounted to the frame look like they lead to the engine.

Claus
05-11-2016, 11:00 PM
I like them for the same reasons you do but what I don't like is you still have to hide the holes in the cab and the aluminum is nice but it ain't chrome!

Northern Farmer
05-11-2016, 11:22 PM
I like them for the same reasons you do but what I don't like is you still have to hide the holes in the cab and the aluminum is nice but it ain't chrome!

Polish them up well you'll be able yo pass it off it as chrome lol. I mounted the brackets to the frame so that the stacks line up with the holes and since they hug the body closer then the other one's I had before you can barely see the holes now...the black paint probably helps I'm sure lol

Picked up the tub and parts this week, they turned out great! The nose of the trailer is proving to be a real pain in the you know what...lot of nooks and crannies to polish but should be completed this weekend. Other then that I just have the lights and wiring to do :)

Ya dumper looked great so I thought until I removed the saran wrap to put the trailer back together! Powder coater messed this one up bad!! He actually painted on top of the tape! Look at that awful orange peel...not to mention a big drip mark on the bottom of the tail gate door

Spraying powder over the tape is a boner maneuver for sure but the rest is not that bad from what I've seen. I totally understand your frustration as I have been there myself:mad:. You can carefully sand and buff the drip out on the tailgate. The shop I use preheats all of my stuff before spraying the powder now and it seems to turn out better than before. It's still not 100% perfect though and always has a flaw somewhere. I've learned to except that it is not going to look like a "show" paint job but won't scratch like one either. I think it is pretty difficult to apply enough powder on all edges without it building up too much on others hence the drip. Depending on how thick it is, you may be able to sand and polish some of the orange peel too. Just don't try it on velvet black because it becomes glossy really quick!

Thanks for the words of encouragement Reg. I guess I am pretty fussy since so many hours of work have gone into this trailer that I want it looking it's best! But yeah like you said nothing is perfect...but I sure as h3ll am trying to get it there!

Like I said, I understand. I've picked stuff up a few times only to start assembling it and notice something unacceptable. It will be interesting to hear their thoughts. When my stuff has had a bad spot they have sanded and re-coated the parts. I don't see that being a solution here. The coating can be chemically stripped as well but that may ruin your polishing?:(

Claus

Northern Farmer
08-18-2016, 03:44 PM
Yeah powder coater just got back to me said he's going to strip it chemically and re-shoot it come Monday. Asked him about the chemical stripper he uses and if it would effect the polished aluminum underneath and he said no...so will see come next week.

Bought this Duratoy converter going to be my winter project. Plan on adding a motor to power the conveyor belt, another motor to open/close the chute door, also going to put a vibrator motor on the hopper. I cut out some sheet metal and raised it 5" to help clear the chute opening for our 1/14 trucks.

Thanks Kaan no I don't plan on buying the latest version as it's not worth it for me. I picked up one of Rimrock's track motors upgrade kit to help the excavator move around more fluently then with the original motors the 4200 came with. Check out his kit it's definitely worth a look :)

are you pulling your excavator with a tamiya's standard semi truck?
I'm not sure if you remember but my first loader had bunch of problems, i had to send it back ( i lost 300$) and got the new one, new one is good so far. I never use them on the field tho so never push them really hard. I'm sure you will like it, at least it's more fun than my excavator for me and i'm sure you will put some decal on it, make it look even nicer :)

I replaced the rear suspension on my hauler that's pulling the trailer. This way there's no issue of the rear bottoming out when loaded. The motor that's in the hauler is a stock Tamiya one with PMD 4:1 transmission reducer.

This Suspension is a must have item. I've ben testing many different setups.
The only one that survived was this one. There is two versions The red one is all metal the other one got plastic rod ends and break easy. (the springs are plastic)
