was toying with the idea of trying to replace the tires with aluminum goat foot type rollers. any info on if thats certain death for the drive train? thinking its got to run everything harder then rubber. going for more of a waste handling machine. all suggestions welcome..

I do a good amount of aluminum casting work, if your interested in making a drawing or talking some more let me know. Always looking for a new project!

I am currently casting a dump bed for my tamiya project, along with some split rims.

Hello scotty, thanks for the reply im definitely interested in haveing a set, but unsure what the cost would be and im not really the design type. I was thinking the wheels to be the same diameter of the stock rubber tires and made to be bolt on replacement so i could switch back and forth between the two. only reason i suggested steel was the thought of welding each goat foot to a round cylinder in the diameter of the stock rim.

Thats a good idea as well. I do see on that site tires to fit the 870k which will come in handy. Thanks NorthernF, but not seeing the rims. Im in a bad cell service area so pages are slow to load. Will definitely check again once home.

Ric also sells Goodyear loader rims & tires. The OD of the tires is 9mm smaller then the stock tires.

Yeah that would be tough to justify spending the time in design and 3d printing to cast them. The price is one of those things were its hard to judge till I know how much time is invested, which as all know is hard to guess. The process would be to design in 3d modeling software, print them out on my 3d printer, use that plastic model in a investment cast, burnout, and pour "to put it simply". I would need a stock wheel and tire and even start the design process. I would imagine it would be in the ball park of a couple hundred a piece if I made a few full sets, by the time all is said and done. But I would imagine casting these would be comparable time wise to welding each lug on individually depending on the quantity.

I was kicking around the idea of trying some sprockets or industrial type gears mounted on stock rims. There not a need right rite now item so i have some time to try different ideas. Thanks to all for the help and replies. Lenny

Sounds good Lenny, let me know if you want to try some cast parts I could provide a "sleeve" that could slide/clamp over existing rims much easier than a entire wheel because machining would be much quicker! Could make them out of a copper instead of aluminum as well and that would provide some extra weight maybe?

sounds good i will be placing an order for a set of stock rims to see what maybe be possible. but that sleeve maybe a thing to look into.

That's a great Idea Lenny, I could very well be interested in a set from Scottyk as well...

Sounds good guys let me know. I might have to buy a loader finally if I make these! I have a small run of parts I will soon attempt a highly detailed investment casting on some dump truck scale split rims for my Mack truck. If I really get the hang of this casting method I think it would be ideal for these "tires" as well.
