I recently ordered four cylinders from Clippard, the price was reasonable, the shipping via ups was high, but what really got me was ups wants an additional $88.20 for "duty and taxes". I have ordered from Europe, China and the US and never been charged duty and taxes at the door by fedex , dhl, etc. Turns out the cylinders are not such a good buy.

Depending on the total value of parcel, you may or may not be charged your pst & gst... BC has a hst of what %?

Most shippers know this and lower the value on the invoice but not all are willing to play ball. General rule of thumb with ups when the invoice value is north of 20$ expect to pay duties on it.

You're NOT paying any duties... it's your own hst (prov/federal) sales tax that you're being charged. Usually if the amount is less than $50 they don't bother collecting. I've always paid my 5%pst & 5%gst on any parcel from USA or Europe, but sometimes the odd parcel slips by under the radar...

I worked a couple years for ups and yes your paying duties on your parcel if your shipping invoice indicates a value over 20$. Ups is known for charging extravagant brokerage fees for clearing your parcel through customs on your behalf. Ups is also notorious when processing packages going through customs and deliberately billing them as manufactured outside of north america, even if the package clearly indicates otherwise. Ups has faced multiple lawsuits for intentionally over charging customers with duty fees. Look it up on google.
