Well I'm starting a Kenworth daycab project!
I have not decided how detailed it will be yet....so I will take it one step at a
time.
I have a 1/16 scale model that I can look at,and use some parts off of.
Well here are some starter pics....the cab will be candy green w/black,and silver graphics.....old school.

The air cleaners are PMD.
I may use the air cleaners off of the 1/16 model.

I like the over all stance of lowered tanks and steps,...I am not sure
if I am going to keep them that way are not!

That is lookin' killer!:) The stance of the truck and the wheelbase really set it off, especially in addition to the old school KW details you added!

Yeah those 1/16 Monogram kits come in handy for reference too...the scale difference for some of the emblems really isn't all that bad either.

Keep up the awesome work!

I'll be watching this build closely. There have been a few KH to Peterbilt conversions now but not so many KH to Kenworth conversions. Looking good so far! I didn't realise the front axle needs to go forward for a KW too. As far forward as a Peterbilt?

sneaky-pete
02-16-2011, 11:23 AM
Hey Nick,I think the axle needs to be moved forward on the KH kit for any
build in my opinion.Look at the stock bumper spacing....it's way to big of a gap to be prototypical!

Off to an excellent start! Boy, just looking at it from the front end, with that grill, Wedico headlights, and the bumper already on there, it hardly looks like it will need much more to be an accurate KW! Even though I know there is more work to be done with cab steps, air cleaners, ect. Very awesome project. I like it!

Yeah, I had to email rcstation to get them to send me my stuff. They have good prices and good parts, but they seem to be lacking in the customer service department. After I ordered the stuff, I emailed them 2 weeks later, then it took another 4 weeks to get it here.

Snekey Pete,

I'm sorry to bust your bubble but the axle on an A Model if the hood is adjusted right is right in the middle.

Here is a pic of my buddy's 78 A model which I drove to this little truck show out side of Des Moines Ia last yr.

I don't have a way to measure a 1:1,but just eyeballing it looks like the

Nice detail on the hood, and what's that lurking next to the KW? Intriguing...

Espeefan
06-12-2011, 11:35 AM
Troy, that Cat would look awesome, under the hood of my Wedico! You should sell it to me. :D But really, it would look nice under any truck hood, but with the King Hauler, I think it would take a little extra hood work because guys who cut the hood, so it can tilt up, end up having the fenders hit the air cleaners. So either you get stuck cutting the fenders or stretching the hood, but then again, your fender mods on the first cab you did might give you the clearance you need. Really though, with your skills, none of this would give you a challenge, I am sure.

I'm kind of curious how easy or hard it is to tighten up the front fender, like you did with the first cab. That's a great looking mod. It looks so good that I am tempted to get a KH again and try making it a W900 also. I really like that KW grill on there. That alone makes the truck look leaps and bounds better then any stock KH. The double round headlights, do another huge favor to the look, and finally, tightening up those fenders is the icing on the cake. As I said, I am tempted! So what was left of the cab you gave to your brother, and how did he destroy it? To me, it didn't look like it needed anything else done to it, to make it perfect.

Thanks for the comments Nathan!
I thought of all the problems and mods that I would have to do to get it in this truck.I will probably add a mfu,and that wont happen if I put in the cat.

The fenders are easy to do......just make multiple cuts around the edge, and
cut it away from the hood starting at the back all the way up to the light bucket. Then heat the fenders to shape!

I will sell you the cat and radiator if you want it!

Ouch! Chip that filler off and it would be ok. But it would probably take as much time as it would take to work the fenders on your other shell that already has the perfectly formed top to the hood. Not a criticism in any way of your brother's efforts - my build has had filler like that applied and removed several times over! Learning as I build. Means it takes twice as long!!
p.s. I spy a unibilt pete taking shape in the background, nice! Your workbench is a regular assembly line!!

Great job polishing out those mill marks on the grill. I didn't think it was possible, but you accomplished it nicely. That's one thing that sort of turns me off to those machined grills. Touch of red paint on the grill emblem yet to come?

Hey boys and girls,
I have decided to build a sleeper for my KW,but it's not permanent:eek:
The sleeper is removable, and so is the headache rack.

The sleeper slides over the headache rack, and looks like it's attached!
I still have to paint it,and add lights.I have not decided wether to add a window
in the back or not:confused:

Anyway here are a few pics.

Sweet!!! great idea for the "slip over sleeper"!! I just noticed some of more of your detail troy. The front hub detail is killer!

The sleeper is a great idea and just perfect.. And to be able to have the best of both worlds makes it even better..

Have to agree with Brian, that sleeper is very innovative thinking. Sleeper for long hauls and day cab for quick errands. Ingenious.

That's a great idea! It looks good both ways, so this is the best of both worlds. I'd say put a rear window in the sleeper, with a matching visor, like the front. That'd be cool.

I really dig the old school look of that truck, so to add the awesome single sleeper just really completes the look. Not to mention I'm more of a sleeper guy anyways. it looks great, nice job

Troy, if that's a messed up paint job, on that sleeper, I have to ask what your 'good' paint jobs look like. I can't see any flaws! Now I'm not sure which I like better. The truck as a day cab, or the truck with it's slip over sleeper.

Troy you have taken a perfect truck and made it better, if that's possible! I love this thing, the old school look, the stance, it all comes together beautifully!!! The detail is just stunning! Love it! However there is one problem with this truck.....I don't own it!:D:D:D:D

Thank you very much for the compliments guys.....it means alot coming from
all the talented people on this board.

The sleeper slides right over the rack, and fits snug....thats all thats holding
it in place.

The tape that I used to mask it was too cold, and would not hug the body very well. The paint seeped under the tape a little bit.....it's worse on the
other side.

This was an experiment any way...so I will build a better one later with the correct roof profile, etc.
