Hi all,

This is my first rc truck build and it's a Knight Hauler with MFU that I'm turning into a Aussie,it will have a brass bull bar, ac unit, road train mud flaps, stone guard, bug deflector, and some flashing beacons from Pistenking a German company with the best flashing beacons around.

Any how let me know what you guys think this will be a long project and being my first rig I'm not going to rush it

Hi all,

Some more pics and the driver that was hired, the paint had to be all rubbed back as it was in the high 30's when it was done and started pealing blistering from the heat last summer, the lesson we learnt was don't paint in weather above 30 :p

Hi all,

Here are links to there youtub vid and there site Pistenking

They make the best flashing lights I seen so far, I ordered 2 from them really good service they are a little pricey but you get what you pay for and Andreas Rieger (owner) was more than help full with my enquire :p

Hi All,
Another place I have found to be very good for beacons is:
http://www.schmidt-teknik-hobby.dk/priser-forsendelse-engelsk-5.html

John makes a good beacon and is reasonable priced, last ones I got were 80Euro and that is for 2 beacons and a controller board. One of the good parts with his is if you are crafty you can change the direction it rotates! Looks good with one clockwise and the other counter clockwise!

Hi IDontKnow,

Some of the reason I ended up getting the Pistenking lights are the circuit boards are mounted in the lights and
# Wide voltage range (4-12V) so you can adjust the speed
# True to the original function
# Innovative LED technology
# Integrated electronics
# Two-wire connection
# Long life
# Easy installation
# 2 types of mounting on a pole or screw on

The only thing I had to buy separate was my choice of on/off switch and battery connector that I got from my local Jaycar electronics store

The ones I got we 2 x RKL16-OG = 70,00 Euro
1 x Shipping and handling= 14,50 Euro to OZ
the more you buy the cheaper they are

Hi Cossett, I know I commented and saw your Knight over on Scale 4x4, but I figured I'd say a little something here too. Looks like you are well on your way to having a cool Aussie tractor. I like that stone guard. Looks like you really took your time with it. It must be soldered? If so, that is some fine brass work.

Hey Tracy, have you considered using your "coiled airhose's" for a powered trailer?
Just a passing thought. Look's great, keep us posted!
Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug.

Cossett
07-12-2011, 05:25 AM
The coiled air hoses are from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/KUSTOM-RC-TRUKZ?_trksid=p4340.l2563 in the UK.

The only thing that I'm changing are the Female connectors to ones that have a threaded locking nut on the back that you can get from Jaycar over here or I think the equivalent over your way is radio shack or electrical parts shop....

The way I was going to run the hoses is keep the tamiya truck/trailer wire kit plug / leed as normal but mount the tamiya female plug in the chassis plate near the back of the cab and add two female connectors to the front of the trailer next to the male plug, mount the 3 coloured air lines afixed to the prime mover on a seperate switch/ 9 volt battery (to run a +positive / - negitive for other accessories eg : beacons ) and the 3rd coiled line will be a dumby line and repeat for extra trailers,

There are other ways you and run the air hoses but I'm doing it this way for the reason if I ever part the Truck & trailer the next owner can just hook the truck or trailer up and lights will work with out having to rewire the trailer]

If that makes any sence..

Cheers Tracy

Thanks, I will order some wires today.

Cossett
07-31-2011, 08:45 AM
Hi all, time for a up date finally the BB is fully wired and the spot lights are working, the aerial mounted, then the right hand battery box was swapped for another left hand one and is used for a auxiliary duracell 9 volt battery for the beacons and 2 switches in the rear tool box along with more wiring, then I had to re-build the front end replacing the shackles/ screws and front cross member and shocks (long story), mounted the BB Hooray took long enough.
Next was to swap the silver can tamiya motor for a carson truck puller motor to slow it down without putting a reduction box in her, retested everything so I can go the the next stage and that is lifting the floor about 12mm....

What did you use? 5mm leds or 1w /3w-leds?

One of the most useful parts for raising the floor comes from Jaycar Electronics!
The make nice chrome plated standoff sleeves for circuit boards, and they also do the longer 3mm screws that will be needed to secure the floor pans.
Have done it to three trucks up to now and all have come out looking good! Ask Tim!

Hi pip, the aerial is a typical long range UHF CB Radio aerial that is common here in Aus

Hi,

thanks for the pic. I probably didn't make myself clear.. Sorry for that...

Position and size are ok.. I just thought the antenna to be a bit thick.. looks like 3-4mm.. a 1.5mm antenna would look better. :)

...but I see you actually have your receiver's antenna wire inside the tube, so forget about my comment. Well done! :)

Cheers Cossett

Cossett, the lights you bought are by far the best I have seen. They appear to be SMD leds. Would you know if this was true? Thanks, Joe

Ok I needed something useful to make at TAFE tonight in sheet metal and instead of making a letter box or another tool box that I have no use for I gave 1800-tim a call and got some quick measurements off him and made a drawing for a ballast box as I had nothing to go off as it was a spur of the moment thing, the measurements I end up using were slightly different as my makings on the sheet metal were out a little,
It is made from one piece of 1mm gal cut/folded with double safety fold on the top edges I just need to make a lid for it next week and secure the corners then make the mounting brackets for the turn table..
Not sure what truck it will go on the one travis is doing or the yellow bruder so it will go here for the time being....

awesome build, I have a Knight Hauler still in the needing stages.... it still needs paint...it has the MFU and the trailer light set - I went for the big speaker box as my modeling skills are still in their infancy - and I reallly don't want to be doing any mechanical changes any time soon...
