At the March ECMT meet I was asked this question.
First remember that a 2 Cell Lipo and a 6 cell Nimh of equal capacity will have a similar
run time.
The motors I think will work are a Hobby King TR2209/28 or a AXI 2212/20 both these motors are 1050 RPM/Volt so the outbut speed is 8280RPM.
These would be used with a 4-1 gear box
Use a Hobby King 18A-SL car speed control ( this has forward reverse with brake) you will also need the HK TG-PROG programming card.
If this was me I would order all from HK
This is my best guess as I run my trucks on 12 volts
If you go with this let me know how it woks

All great info Gerry, thanx for sharing. :)

What's the purpose of the programming card, what parameters need to be set?

I have no experience with brushless motors or esc's.

What's your chosen charger for lipo & any specific reason for that choice?

The programmer card allows you to set

Start mode (Punch)
Brake force
Initial brake force
Neutral range
Timing
Motor type

The speed control is pluged into the programmer and a 4.8 volt battery is also plugged into it

This allows you to program all function of the controller

Sorry missed you question about chargers

I currently us a G.T.POWER A6-40 This is a 200 watt charger capable of charging up to 6 cells ( I have 4 chargers of different capacities up to 10 cell 5000 ma packs. My main hobby is electric aircraft I have a 22lb Beach stagger wing flying on electric)
A better answer is to us any LIPO charger that can charge a 2 0r 3 cell packs. The one I use the most is a Electifly PolyCharge4 this can charge 4 packs at once 2 or 3 cell up to 3000ma

A bit confused

The programmer card, esc & 4.8v batt stand alone? Or is a PC/USB port necessary too?

And when you say 'up to 5000ma or 3000ma', is that the charge rate or total capacity of the cells?

Post some pics of your 22lbs Beach in the Other RC's forum?

TIA

The programmer card,Esc & the battery are stand alone the battery powers the card so the Esc can be programmed

Re battery charging. With most chargers you pick battery type ( Lipo) number of cells (2) then the charge current (Lipos are charged at 1C or 1 times the battery capacity in MA for 1 HR ( so a 2000 ma pack is charged at 2000ma(2amps) for 1 Hr. all the chargers shut down the pack when they reach 4.2 volts per cell.

If this is not clear let me know

Thanks Gerry, this will help alot of us who want longer run times with our trucks.
