WW2 AEC Matador

After much deliberation decided to build a AEC Matador,we had one which was converted to a wrecker at the bus garage where i served my apprenticeship so brings back many happy memories.I will not be building it as a wrecker but rarther the original artillery tractor as hopefully you can see in the first picture.
The scale is 1/14th
Axles Tamiya TLT
Propshafts lengthend TLT
RC4WD transfer box
RC4WD Wheels and tyres
Leaf springs Tamiya truck
Chassis,hanger brackets,swinging shackles all scratch built

Well after a layoff finally got back to doing a bit,turns out the real truck lives 5 miles from me and thanks to the owner managed to take over 100 pictures to help with the build.
Melvyn the owner also gave me a 1/2 to 1' scale drawing originally produced by the coach builders unfortunatly my cab was way out of scale so was scrapped and started again.
So what you see here are the new cab and some of the rear bodywork

WOW that is some real nice styrene work go ahead and pat yourself on the back for seat frame. I will say it took a while for an update on this one but it was well worth the wait. Keep up the fantastic work because you are going to have a truck to be very proud of when your done.:cool::cool::cool:

Well made some progress and gone backwards as well managed to get the roof done but spent nearly all day today ripping off the radiator as i did not like it at all bl--dy hard going trying to remove welded plastic but got there in the end and new radiator is well on its way to being made.
I thought it stuck out too far and the shape was wrong so it had to go.
Had to put the thinking cap on for the roof as i realised if it was fastend permanantly i couldnt get to the cab retaining screws and with the drive motor being directly underneath it would become a nightmare to maintain,also very awkward for painting the internal details so it is removable and lifts off to allow access.

Well after a not too productive week finally managed to get the front tow hitch,spring and brackets done to a standard im happy with although i do need to fit the rollers tothe LH side but this will be done after paint.

Bit of a funny weekend discoverd that i had not left enough room under the cab for the gearbox and motor the plan was to have the motor partially into the cab where the real engine sits but i would have had to cut part of the floor away as well which would have been visible.
So after a bit of head scratching i have managed to get the gearbox and motor low enough for the cab to fit and also clear the axle.
One of the things i wanted was for the steering servo to be in roughly the same position as the steering drop arm on the real thing,by turning the gearbox round i have managed to achieve this as you will see in the pictures.
Also added a few minor details but as it is white plastic i dont seem to be able to get a decent picture

This week i seem to have spent a lot of time messing about with fiddly little bits.
Parts added include handbrake and winch control levers,wiper motors,vacuum brake unit,door handles,engine cover and securing strap,air filter and passenger seat base and a semi finished fuel tank.
