Receiver

So I finally got my first truck running, Yea.... But after less than twenty mins, it appears the receiver has packed up. I have checked that the motor and Esc are working. I have sent it back, and now waiting for a new one to be delivered. Is this normal? What could have caused this to happen? input please

The only way I have cooked a receiver is incorrect polarity. :eek: Was like 5 seconds before smoking though.
