Alright, here goes:

I wanted to get rid of most/all of the philips head screws and replace them with button-head stainless from McMaster and I don't have any means of finding the pitch?

>Would anyone know the pitch of Tamiya's hardware?

>And is M3 what I'm looking for?
(Tamiya has the sizes posted as like a 3x18mm)

>Would you rec. steel/black or Stainless?

Thanks for the help!!!:)

The size you are looking for is M3-0.5

I get my fasteners from Fastenal.

You do want M3, if you pick that size on McMaster it should default to the common pitch (maybe thats all they sell, dont remember). It is more commmon to see a thread diameter by lengh listed on metric than thread diameter by pitch like American hardware. Also go with stainless, it isnt quite as strong, but will not rust and look good.

3x8,10,12 and 16mm are good sizes to start with, maybe some 20mm if youd like. Get some washers and locknuts too, standard nuts if you will weld/braze them to anything.

Have fun!

Also, try www.fastener-express.com I get most of my 3mm nuts and bolts from them. Not quite as fast as McMaster but cheaper.:)

1st off.....

a BIG... THANK YOU to all that contributed to this thread!!!

I appreciate ALL the help!!:D

I will go with the Stainless, I do agree... it looks better!;)

I'm going to shop around, I like McMaster for my racing hardware and Delrin but 100ct. packages is a bit much for me.... LOL!!

When you get into it, 100 peices dont go very far...and compared to what you pay for kits the price is way cheap. Im about to re-stock my supply here soon, probably looking at over 1000 piece order!

Yes! Especially nuts and common lengths such as 6mm and 12mm. My son and I go through about $100 in fasteners per year. I know this because that's my average annual order.

That was my exact thoughts last night.....

I went ahead and ordered thru McMaster, got 'em all including nylocks & washers nuts-n-screws.

700 pc. order (100 ct. per item)

Should set me up for a while,

After I complete this one though, ....... I got my heart set on a daycab Ford Aero heavy hauler!! And have Freddy build me a nice low-bed!!!!!:D:D
