Wanted: Diagrams/plans of D9r Body and misc parts

Looking for some good diagrams of the body, pan, arms, ripper and frame of the Caterpillar D9r. I've been looking at pictures but i want this to be pretty darn accurate. I am designing a D9r model in Google SketchUp and want good info.

Try a Cat Parts manual for a D9. Have used one for my build, there´s a lot of good drawings. But if you plan to build a accurate model you will need a lot of other messurments, most likely taken from a 1:1 tractor.

Also, do you guys use pneumatic or actual hydraulic cylinder?

And what is a good scale and materials for the first tractor you build?

You can use comercial available pneumatic cylinders, but they are normaly rated to 10 bar pressure. For a dozer this will be aceptable, no need for heavy lift like loader or exacavator. If you use hydraulic cylinder available, they look to bulky.

Scale? Depends if you should use it together with other models, bigger = heavier = more power needed.

Right. What scale is normal? I come from boats where 1/72 is huge, so im not entirely sure. About 18 inches long and 12-14 inches wide at the blade would be nice.

Not quite sure what the scale for that size would be.

That will depend on the other equipment in your area, or what scale you want to build in.

The length of a 1/14th scale would be 20.228 inches, and a 1/16th would be 17.7".

Not at all. There are some really detailed models on this site that are constructed from wood and unless you look inside them you couldn't tell.
Using material you are comfortable with and have the tooling for is all part of the hobby.
