I must say, I have a new found respect for those of you who have mounted a CAT motor in your rig - it takes serious TIME to get it in there and square and mounted.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch26.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch27.jpg

I used the front bolts of the cab mount to anchor the rear motor mounts.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch28.jpg

I had to take just a little out of the front bumper mount:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch29.jpg

Super Long Daycab anyone? ;)

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch30.jpg

I had this daycab body laying around and I used it to check the depth of the CAT motor.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch31.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch32.jpg

Next step is to mount the servos for the steering & trans...

Rod the truck looks great I seen some picks of it at the show and it turned out great.

I got the truck driving under its own power - got the servos both in and working well:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch40.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch41.jpg

No real updates on the body - I haven't done any additional body work or sanding! but I did get the rear boxes mounted and drilled and I got the fuel tanks flipped and mounted also:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch42.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch43.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch44.jpg

Going to have to space the battery boxes and fuel tanks down to open up some room for the light bars! Even after that, I don't know if I'll have enough room to open the boxes:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch45.jpg

Next steps are to mount the stacks and section and mount the battery boxes... mount the fifth wheel and get some body work done!

Stepside
08-22-2010, 09:50 PM
So I finally mounted the pipes that have been laying in the shop forever!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch46.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch49.jpg

Next up is to shorten the battery boxes!!!

Stepside
08-22-2010, 09:52 PM
I got the MFU speaker and MFU board mounted. It wasn't how I imaged it going in the from the get go, but I am pleased with the results.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch51.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch52.jpg

Also got the fifth wheel assembled and mounted so I can actually tow something around! :D

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch53.jpg

Battery boxes sectioned:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch54.jpg

And I got the body in its first coat of primer... Still PLENTY of body work to be done!!!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch55.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch56.jpg

Something to offer here... I got tired of sanding and sanding and sanding... and just let the project sit for a while... well, I'm back in and am pushing for paint! I have the body work 99% completed on the sleeper with just one or two minor touchups.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch63.jpg

Thanks to Brian_in_PA for all the guidance! I finally got the hood cut off... and more importantly, put back on!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch64.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch65.jpg

I just need to do some filling on either side and it will be good. I also made a simple firewall:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/hotrod075/Super%20Stretch/superstretch66.jpg

I have 9 cab lights for the cab and 11 for the sleeper. These lights are just sitting there for the pic... I blacked out the windows also:

Wow, Awesome Rig Rod!

You have so much room it would cool to feed the f-350 trans with another semi 3 speed so, you would have a 6 speed...a super low 1st gear would be nice when maneuvering that thing.:D

A well overdue update... with not much to offer!!* I let the truck sit and haven't really touched it since February!* I got back into it a few weeks ago and made some more progress on the body work... it looks better, but still has a way to go...

I made some sleeper extensions out of brass and got them in primer. I also fabbed up some tandem fenders:

Hey guys!!! I haven't been on the forums much, haven't taken any progress pics, or slept much, but I'm ready for Indy!!! The truck isn't 100% done yet, I need to get a small list of stuff done to it that I just ran out of time. I'm looking forward to not rushing home from work and working on it till 1 or 2 a.m.!!!! I need to make a catwalk plate and paint it... paint the fenders, and some small wiring under the hood....

thanks man! I had a lot of mentoring from Brian on the lights!! and all i can say, is the effect is earned!!! it takes a TON of time to get the light bars made, then put lights in them, then wire them.... THEN mount them, probably the most difficult part!

Yo rod can you post up some pics of how you mounted the light bars?

I will try to get some pix this weekend

Love the lighting! Man, it's sharp. You've built a few of these stretched rigs, haven't you? Is this one your third?

yes, this is the third.... and FINAL! first was 1.5 king sleepers, then 2, and this one is 3... was a fun build, but I think I'm done w/ the condo's! Time for a daycab or something where every 1/4" of space is used floor to ceiling! haha!

I second that and the smoke was amazing but after that masterpiece what are you going to do next Rod?

that's a good question.... right now i'm just coasting till the fall shows... I kind of OD'd on building in the last month and need a break! I'll be doing some work on the machine over the winter and who knows what else!

dang, the "multi-quote" button ROCKS!!

Rod, this is your best truck yet. The lights are my favorite part of this truck, and the smoker unit the second. She really is a beaut, all the way. How many LEDs did you actually end up using? I think I lost track at 48, just going down the cab and sleeper skirting. :D

tks for the comments fellahs!

@ Nate - white is color for sure! I am not 100% done w/ the truck (are we ever!!) I am going for a "white out" theme on the truck and will paint the straps on the tanks white and may put on a different set of full fenders and paint those white also. I have a deck plate that I got from Brian at the show and I am going to get it on there also... Lastly, I want to work on a roof-top a/c unit...

ah, if I only had the time.... ;)

Question about smoke generator, i know that alot of the train smoke fluids are oil based, does the smoke leave an oily residue on the truck itself? I was wondering cause i know some oil's will mess up a paint job.

Also would you mind posting some pics of how you have the smoke generator installed?
