Mack LRVSW

I started this project long ago to match my 88-B shovel (http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=2127).

The LRVSW is a direct ancestor to the famous M series off-highway trucks (see IHBUILDER M75-SX (http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=1557))

Comparing a Tamiya standard axle to the modified one I will use gives you an idea of the size of this baby (they are supposed to be same scale !)

The LRVSW was basically designed to be a dumptruck, but some of them have been used as logging trucks. Eventually, a couple were later transformed to be used as prime movers for heavy haulage work....

The model will be around 10kg empty (22 lbs) and will have a GVW of 21 kg (46 lbs).
I will have to fill the tires with some serious foam, as the original material is intended for lighter models and is a bit too soft.

Not sure I will keep the Tamiya gear box, but in that case, I will certainly add a 3 or 4:1 reduction gear.

Now I see this truck on the CURRENT web page. I was puzzled by why my posts weren't showing up from one computer to another!
Glad to see another vintage off road dump being built. Like I said before that didn't show up here; "That will look nice with a certain 88B's 4cy dipper loading her up" Or, a 10cy dragline but you 'll have to bring it to the USA for that to happen.

Forgive me if this sounds dumb......but how did you spline the ends to fit into the diff or did you slide this over the existing rod? (i am no machinest)

As a "no-machinist", I must say your work is rather impressive ;)

I just kept the original shafts, drilled my additional length 0.2 mm less than the external diameter of the splines and "forced" them gently over the existing splines. I used the lathe as a press to maintain everything centered and avoid any bending. Not sure my explanation is clear, so I can take a picture if needed.....

Did you use any Lock-Tite as an extra security to your press fit hub?

No Lock-Tite.....

For the job, you'll probably have to wait a couple of years.....or a couple of decades :D

nice job on the wheels :) did you make 2 extra fronts :p they look right on . I hope mine come out as nice :confused: great job on the front axle too , I may remake mine like it is supposed to be ( tubular ) I finally got the rest of my tires coming :D

I may draw them up soon and try to do the double lug nut / spoke . what size lug nut are you using ?

Brass!! Looks way better. Now possibly redo the bed channels in thin brass sheet.

The bed frame/channels from aluminium look good to me in proportion.
So, my honest question: What would be gained by doing them in brass?
I assume painting a mixed material bed might be slightly more problematic, but not too much of an issue?

A lot of things happened.....and the Mack is not finished, as many of the projects started before 2010 :(

But it is still there on a shelf, and will probably be completed, one day :rolleyes:
