In this how to I will show how to disassemble the Norscott 1:12 scale Cat C15 engine.
I had the desire to paint my C-15 to match the frame on my build. I have to take the engine apart completely in order to
paint it properly as far as I am concerned. I also had the desire to change it from a C15 Acert to a pre-Acert single turbo C15.

To start you have to remove certain parts in order to get the engine apart. Once you remove these parts you can separate
the engine and then remove the rest of the detail parts on the engine.
Step One:
Using a sharp Exacto knife cut the parts indicated with the red arrows. Make sure you cut these between the part and the
motor as cleanly and close as possible. These will have to be glued back on at final assembly.

These parts must be removed in order to separate the halves of the engine.

Step Two:
Carefully pry the front cover, valve covers, and rear cover/bell housing, and oil cooler pieces off the block at the points indicated
by the yellow arrows.

The green arrows in the next two pictures point to pins that are wedged in they will come out when you pry the parts apart.
I found it best to replace these with some 2-56 bolts and nuts when reassembling the motor

Under the oil cooler (the piece the black arrow is pointing at) two screws and under the valve cover is also a screw.
The screw under the valve cover removes the oil pan while the other two under the oil cooler separate the two engine halves.

Step Three:
Once the two halves are separated then you will find on the inside of the halves some heat riveted posts for the remaining
details on the outside of the motor.
Cut the melted head off of these pieces with the exacto knife. These are indicated by the red arrows. Once these are cut
them using a small screw driver or a toothpick push all the points marked with a blue arrow through the block half and this
will safely remove the remaining details on the engine.

That's all there is to disassembling the motor.
Now if you want to turn the oil pan around so that the sump is at the back like it is in a long nose truck then all you will
need to do is modify the bottom of the block halves a tiny bit.
This requires you to cut out a small part of the casting at the bottom of the halves. The areas that need to be cut out
is indicated by the red squares and the red arrows in the following pictures.
