Absolutely beautiful styrene work. Very cool to see you join us. I remember your thread from Scale 4x4. Your Aeromax and trailer are going to be awesome once you get it all painted up! It looks great right now, even in it's raw state!

I tried to fix the trailer fenders and it did not go well so i made these instead. Looking at what i had left from the old pieces i decided to use some of the old fenders and made new ones. I also made some new mud flaps but still kept with the flame look on the truck.

Dude that is freaking awesome work on the styrene flames!
I've seen a lot of great styrene work, but that'll stick around a little better in the old noggen.
Goes great with the truck too, can't wait to see it painted.

Ok i will warn everyone don't fall over or have an outer body experience or something but i have the truck and trailer 95% covered in primer. Unfortunately the color i wanted i can not get it in a spray can from any nissan dealer or automotive detail shop. The dealers only have it in a touch up pen and that is really not going to cut it. So i have to go back to the drawing board for the color choice. Brain cells are realy working and the weather is really cooperating. I am trying to get at least a rolling chassis done with color before the winter since i am doing this outside. If i can get the whole truck done before the new england winter i will go play the lottery lol.

Awesome! What color where you trying to get from Nissan? Maybe we could help you find something similar. Tamiya probably has something really close. Only thing is you'll end up paying for it too. Lots of surface to cover there!

Been watching this on a forum or 2. Very nice build. Its like a Orange County Chopper built. Put it all together and then break it down for paint. Should be sweet when is done. Any palns for lighting?

I called to two nissan dealers and a few detailers. It called volcanic orange. It is off of the 2005 years of nissan but i just remember that cheverlet has something like it. Yes i am dreading having to buy the paint necessary to cover this. It took me around 8 can of primer and i might need one more ouch.

Very impressive build so far. Enjoy the styrene work. I do have 1 concern about your paint. Using a dark primer under orange paint will either cause you to use lots of orange paint to get it the right shade or you will not like the end results with only 2 or 3 coats. I had a paint manufacturer tell me to under coat or prime yellow, red, and orange with a white primer to get a truer/brighter final color. I have switched to using white primer for about all colors except browns and black. It really does make a difference. I am not knocking your build just trying to help a fellow mini-trucker get the truck he has envisioned in his mind become a reality.

Cool truck KW. Gonna be watching this one.

I just got into these 1:14 trucks 3 or 4 months ago and have been tinkering with converting my Aeromax to a Sterling dump truck. Since that time I find myself looking at every truck going up and down I95 on east coast U.S. I usually see 5 or 6 Sterling day cabs everyday (everything from dumps, box trailers to boom trucks)...and maybe an Aeromax day cab or two...but I have yet to see an Aeromax (or a Sterling) with a sleeper (let alone extended). Maybe I need to be looking on an East/West highway. LOL. :D:rolleyes: Anybody see these things with full aero package and sleeper like Tamiya sells 'em on a regular basis or are they as rare as I think in the U.S.?

Well here is my first coat on most of the truck. The trailer i have plans on getting top flites monokote metalic gold self adhesive sheet for the sides. Yes i know i am cheeting by not painting the side but i am painting in a bit of an untraditional place. Plus i think if it works that should give it a good look.

Of course but i think it is the tuff choice of what to do that is not over power and over kill that can accent the two colors just right. I am going to paint the stacks with alclad paint and maybe the front bumper a flat or satin metal color. I have some little detail ideas. The wings and antenas i am going to do the same and paint it with alclad too. I am all about the detail.

I am always doing more and more research on making this more realistic all around. I changed the trailer once more time. I took alot of steps back on this one for realistic look on the trailer. Did some body work sealed off some of the side doors to only have a one door opening like an in town delivery trailer.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4058.jpg

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4062.jpg

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4065.jpg

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4063.jpg

On top of that i was trying to reconstruct the refrig unit and really destroyed the front of the trailer so when i fixed it i took this as the opportunity to make a better unit also i am going to build it so i can put the leg batteries in side. Along with access to them.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4067.jpg

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4066.jpg

When i was doing all of this reconstructing to the outside i thought i could not leave the inside alone so i am building all the walls the front of the inside and i am making the floor so it can be removed to get the wires. It is adding some weight back that i tried to take off the truck but i have not really ended up with the final motor combo for it.

kenworth
08-14-2011, 04:35 PM
Well the last picture the opening of the trailer did not look right so more reconstruction has been done opened it up alittle to make it look more like the inner insulated walls.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4090.jpg

Almost finished all the doors. All of the latches are functional.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4087.jpg

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4086.jpg

Just like the floor i made the front wall removable. The inner wall is going to be held in place by the screws going through the trailer wall to clamp together to the refrigerator unit to hold in place. I also made a vent box to do a couple of things. One to hide all the wires going to trailer and make an access to the trailer leg batteries i placed in the the refrigerator unit. The vent box is going to have four pegs coming out the side to latch into place and is removable from the inside.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4085.jpg

Here is a shot looking down from the back of the trailer of the vent box in place.

08-30-2011, 08:22 PM
Well i know everyone has been wanting to finally see this project done i think it is at the second to last step. I finished the new refrigerator unit and i am alot more happy with this one.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4094.jpg

Here is some pics of almost everything on the truck and trailer. So i think this could be at least the end of the building part beside the trailer floor. I am happy at all angles the way it looks. The weather here is getting better so i think i could get painting in and i am hoping to get alot of painting in. So maybe by the winter this might actually look done but who knows.

I tried to get as much painting in as i could before the cold. You know these new england winters are haha. Well it is coming along nice i got the trailer worked almost to the end.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4269.jpg

There was a few things my eye just could not stay with so i made some changes. I am making a bracket to hold up the fenders on the truck just like the trailer. I removed the steps they did not look right and moved the stacks back behind the box. I used the original stacks from the kit and in the process of making some new holders for them. The kit brackets for the stacks just did not bring it out enough.

Well i had to keep myself busy for the winter time so i am working on another part i always wanted to try. I wanted to make a detailed interior but never tried it on anything. So here we go. To do this i had to move the motor back into the sleeper and made a whole new sleeper platform to go around the motor. This is what i have so far. I am really happy with it. I made a new cab floor, added to the dash, made a transmission cover complete with cup holder, the back of the cab and roof are one piece still working that one, stick shifter with high low switch. The seats i reworked and put some plastic around the spring section and going to heat it up to melt them to simulate wrinkled fabric.

http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj399/trucker_2009/IMG_4349.jpg

When i cut the doors was a litte nervous for me but i got through it haha and i had to add to the cab to make it whole again. The hinges i made from scratch but i don't think those are what i will be using when i am done though.

Kenworth, very nice build, awsome detail and styrene work. I have to ask, do you hand cut your styrene or machine cut it. I'm new at working with sheet styrene and I'm trying to make rear fenders for my truck. Are your truck and trailer fenders built up from sheet or did you vacuum form the shape and build from there?

Beautiful, talented work. One question, did you give that little girl her doll house hinges back?:D Only having some fun!

You are a true styrene artist.

Things have been kind of slow lately but i did make some progress on my cab interior.

This is the back of the cab and i need to hide the brass brackets so i made some boxes to go over them i am going to make into speakers.

Here is a coule of early shots of the dash and custom steering wheel i am attempting to make from scratch.

Here is a shot of the door which i am very happy with. If you can see through all of the scrible marks i am trying to make the 3d flames again and other detail stand out.

All i can say is WOW!!!! I love those fenders!!! Your eye for detail is top notch! I wish i could cut the styrene as percisely as you do... Ive tried making flames before and i ended up scratching that idea... Wasnt pretty. Cant wait to see this truck all finished up.

Thanks you very much. I can't wait to see it done either haha. Things have been hard to get to my truck lately but when i do i try to make the time worth it and make my ideas come to life.

What a great build! Nothing for narrow Norwegian roads :)
Please don't give it a MFU, it deserves better!

I think this is going to look great when finished I have seen 1 or 2 of these trucks similar to your on the highway, you don't see many done this way but when you do they look great... Your styrene work is just simply great and great detail.
