Well, have a couple of tractors sitting around & figured. What would happen If I flipped the interior around in the cab & maybe but a bucket on er?
So this is what I'm thinkin.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics690.jpg
The plan is to make a new hood a little shorter & wider.move the exhaust,& do a bit-o-butchin on the cab.
She's no gunna look perfect to a 1:1.Put a can of cat yellow on er. I think it will look just fine. My main goal here is to load dirt.Cheap!
Just happen to have an old alum axle layin around & figured this baby will take the weight hangin out front.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics695.jpg
Then butched in a 350 axle for the rear.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics691.jpg
The trany is a PMD tranfercase bolted to a carson gear reduced motor.

I agree! Very clever! And it's already looking really good too. You don't waste much time, when designing and building on the fly, do you? Is it going to be hydraulic?

Azonic

Yes i have to agree, you are a very smooth and creative builder, makes it look so easy, well done!

But the green will go away right? :)

Very cool Freddy, I like the green, kind of Terex or Euclid looking. I would no like to be the fuel man for your rig though, not easy to get to. The aluminum wheels are a very nice touch, not as cool as spinners would be but still very cool.

Freddy you never cease to amaze. I never thought about turning the Ford around and seeing a loader in it but now that I sit here staring at yours it makes me want to give it a go. Can't wait to see what you make out with for this machine.

Great work agian Freddy...

10-13-2011, 02:29 AM
What a change! That looks really cool! I would have never though a Steiger would have been a good base for a wheel loader. The rear hood look great, and I think the cab looks just fine with the posts leaning both ways. A lot of the older piece of a equipment had cabs a lot like that. Is it a Freddybuilt brand loader? Green paint would be a nice touch!

I like those rims and tires! I know where the rims came from, but the tires?

Tamiya Cowboy
10-13-2011, 08:16 AM
I would like one of the first Steiger wheel loaders! I think it looks great and you should keep with the Steiger paint colors it would be cool to see what one would of looked like if they did make one out of there parts..

Looks great FGD! Very creative and I'd say it could easily pass for something that this company would manufacture!

I may have missed it, but are you using screw drives for the bucket or something else? Surely not hydraulics if this is a "budget build"...

Ingenius Freddy! :D

You're right, TTM doesn't have hyds on their site anymore. Scale Art makes a mini pump similar in size to Leimbach's and there's several skilled machinists here on the forum that could probably manufacture your valves & cyls for ya. ;)

Once again,Thanks Guys!
Yea Mazdaparts,I'm still toyin w/the idea of moving the back glass straight. Was going to cut about an 1/2" out of it to make it look more real, but turns out I had to stuff some of the runnin gear in it.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics732.jpg
Acouple of people asked if it is going to be screwdrive. Here's what I decided to do.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics735.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics737.jpg
Even managed to get two packs in er. One under the seat & one under the rear chassis.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/The%20best%20of%20freddy/TruckPics736.jpg
Now the cylinders. Had to make up a different mount for rear of cylinders, due to there just a tad to long. But can change them at anytime later down the road. The 40mm are perfect, but can't get them in the bore I want.So once I'm set up right,I'll make a set that will be perfect for this baby.

Nice work, as usual, Fred! So are you running everything on 7.2 volts, or 14.4 volts? Packs in series, parallel, or one for the drivetrain, and one for the pump?

The bucket reach looks good. One thing I was going to ask - are the pivots points and joints on these models bushed at all, or does it not matter? Aluminum will eventually wear out, I would guess. Just curious if anyone worries about that sort of thing. I never really saw any Stahl or Wedico machines up close. Do they run bushings?

Those are some nice battery packs. 2/3A cells, right? Did you build them yourself, in that configuration? I can think of a couple uses for a pack that size. Where did you find them?

Freddy - I think you will want to make the rear bumper bigger for more weight balance - and the aluminum axel for the bucket end is ideal - great choice.

Works pretty good... for a knock off. :D

I was about to ask if your diffs were locked for why the trans skipped, but it looks like the rear axle is open atleast. I tried some Shoo Goo in your red GL in just the last axle for limited slip diff, it improved its traction without causing the steer tires to skid, but it will peel the floats off with the trk loaded & BB's didn't help to keep them on either.

Still got your mig? Need a bigger bucket. 20 guage wouldn't be overly heavy.

You need a better esc for for/rev, ever try Servonaut's S20? I used one for my 850's swing motor, speeds up evenly/smoothly - slows down the same way. They're pricy, but it's the best I've ever tried & quite compact too.

9w,that is what the bucket is off of.I took one all apart, but my skills aren't that good yet to pull that off. It's a lot smaller than the stieger.
Sparky, the steel u-joints I buy two in a pack,I'll get the part # for you if you want.
Scott, those actuators are none to cheap, then the cost of a speed controller per actuator, can add up in a big hurry. I agree it would be cheaper.
Yea Joe,I'm waiting on smaller dia wire right now.
The front diff is locked, the rear is open. This thing is unreal in the dirt. It by no means needs the rear locked. If it ever quits raining,I'll try to get a dirt vid in before the white crap hits.
Travis, with rubber for a load, gotta give her a shake to pack it down.:o

Freddy, nice loader build. Really like the new bucket - assembled with JB Weld? Would not have considered it strong enough in that application, with such a narrow joint - nice to know!

Yes, I'd appreciate the brand and part number on the metal u-joints. I have Traxxas shafts I'm using on my Payhauler truck but am not fond of the composite u-joints where they attach to the transmission shaft. Maybe I'll do something different, after seeing yours.

Thanks Guys!
RCTech9,Not sure about teeth on this one,I've already started on a large material bucket for er,might put ripper teeth on that one.
Well...managed to do a little work on my baby.
First mounted the 1000:1 motor to grapple,& made a little sexy cover for the motor.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddies%20newest/TruckPics863.jpg
I still have to cut out some exspanded metal to cover the air hole.
Speakin of sexy, when I bought this pump,it was for my skidder.
So I shortened the oil tank to fit inside that project. Well turns out if you don't relax the hydraulics after shutting of,over time it will overfill the tank & leak out of the breather. This is what I came up with to fix that little problem.

Adding a rotary broom to your box scraper to get the finer stuff, have it pivot up/down like the the grapple on your bucket. ;)

Build a box on the back of your loader to simulate an engine to power the broom, or could be a ballast box for added traction... the added box to house extra batteries, quick change so you can plow for hrs without waiting for a recharge. ;)

That's awesome, Freddy! You are really on a roll with this thing. The snow pusher looks really good, and so does your grapple bucket. Both seem to work just like they should. Nice videos too! By the way, in the blade pusher movie, I saw some smoke rolling across the screen at about the 23-25 second mark! Something on fire? :D

Very impressive Freddy looks like it works great! The box blade looks great too you should just do a quick attach mount on it so you don't have to take the bucket off that is how most guys here run them so when they are done pushing they can do some moving of piles if you need any picks they make them here in my town they have probly 20 or so sitting out front for everything for a skid to really big pay loader ones I think the biggest is 20 wide..

FreddyGearDrive
11-11-2011, 05:10 PM

Grainfarmer,I'm willin to bet that out of the thousands of toy tractors ertle sold. This one will get the most use out of it before it goes to the garbage. Now just think of all the ones that are just sitting out side rustin away waiting for someone to come & play with it. Where as this one will always be loved, sheltered, rust free & used. Not to mention a movie star! :D
Just what every new toy tractor sitting in a box, hopes will be their destiny. So I'm not to sure about that poor Steiger thing.;)
Joe,all the batteries are tied together to act as one big battery,7.2v.
I've yet to run this thing dead,so far on just two batteries 3600mil/v she went 30 min & still was running strong. Now that's not running the pump the whole time. It won't be long,& I'll know how long she's good for at a crack.

BINGO!
All's I need is some augers, been going to every toy site I can find to see if there is a toy out there that has the right augers for the build.
There's a couple of combines that look like the augers would work, but there is no way I'm spending over $300 for two plastic augers.
Was going to make them out of alum, but what a pain. But if this is what I have to do,so be it. Already cut out one section to see if I can pull it off,& man does it look rough!
So if anyone has some plastic augers layin around they want to get rid off,Please drop me a p/m. They have to dump in the middle. So there is a left thread on one side & a right hand on the other side.

If you "fixed" the broom solid to the loader arms and used the tilt cyl for angling?

The flighting on Ken's link looks pretty tall; double augers, might work pretty good. If you cut the auger in half & turned the flighting around, would that give you rt & lt hand?

dirtpusher9
11-18-2011, 08:02 PM
Why not use washers for the augers. Just cut the washer and twist it, then weld or solder it to the shaft. Keep lining them up and you have an auger.
