I'm so glad we have this thread here to refer to. I haven't seen this machine for a while. I had a guy yesterday at our Antique Caterpillar meet show me a picture of a D9 with lots of detail including hydraulics he bought that's powered by a model airplane engine. He wouldn't tell me what he paid but he did say he traded things and a real machine but didn't say what machine.
If you don't mind me asking, What would your D11 be worth? I know it's not for sale but the D9 model doesn't have no way near the detail as yours and it sold for a pretty penny.

Wow. This is without a doubt the coolest project I have ever seen, done in miniature RC scale. I'm completely lost for words. It's as if you shrunk down the 1:1 machine. It's perfect. Amazingly epic! Incredible.

Mere written text cannot even begin to express the WOW factor of this build !!
The time, patience, skill, and attention to detail are just beyond belief. It is almost criminal to think this craftsmanship will be hidden beneath a coat of paint.
I would opt to leave it bare metal, looks to good to paint.

I hope to build pump and valves alone but if my job will be too long perhaps I will have to buy it, for the moment.

There are no words to describe this build. It has gotten better and better with each update you send. To do this without any type of CNC equipment is just unbelievable. With me being a machinist by trade, I can see all of the time and effort that has gone into this project. This has got to be one of the best or the best build on this forum. Not sure if I would paint this outstanding model but that will be your call.

Wow, your talent never ceases to amaze me. This is an incredible build and truly is a masterpiece. Hard to believe you did it all manually. Do you have a Digital Readout on your mill and, if not, that makes the work that much more amazing.

I use Proxxon PD400 and FF400 machines, they have high precision bat all manually.

When this is finished, it should make build of the year, not just build of the month. While I might try to make some of the parts in this build by hand, to do this without CNC machines or even without digital readouts puts this build completely in another class of machining that is completely out of my league. I am afraid that I am at a complete loss of words for this build. Everyone has already said everything that can be said about it.
I must bow to a world class master builder. Please tell me that you are a tool and die journeyman or master tool maker and not just a hobby machinist????:eek:

Superb!! You Sir are an artist and for this to only be a hobby WOW!!! I do have a few questions for you, How long have you been in the machinist hobby? How about a pic or two of your hobby room so we can see the tools you use? Did you go to some sort of machinist school or are you self taught?? I have been wanting to get a lath and a mill and teach myself how to use them, but was afraid I wouldnt be able to do it without CAD and digital readouts but it seems it is possible to do anything manually with skill and patience thanks for sharing you time and tallents..

Oh my gosh. You made everything for this model with manual machines, not even having digital read outs?!?! You have an incredible gift. How did you machine the parts that have a radius? Do you have an indexing table? Your work is so amazing. I wish I had the same level of skill that you do! There would be nothing I couldn't make!

Yes Espeefan, I use the Proxxon indexing table.
Crawler07,
with a little of attention the Proxxon machines can work also dry, without cutting oil, I use it only for hard steel. Then every day I clean and lubricate the tools so they will hold out a long time and after I clean also the floor ....

Eye Candy those front cylinders! I can still remember hearing the D11N's running over the hill from my house when they were stripping my friends farm for the coal 18yrs ago. I used to take my two sons over and every now and then were giving a chance when the operator was taking his dinner break, to push some blasted rock up the spoil pile. I would have a kid on each knee pushing in the dark with all the lights on. all you can see is the back of the blade. I remember the lights on the lift cylinders like you have constructed beaming over the top of the blade. Backing down the pile you heard the tell tail ckunk clunk ckunk of the tracks of the 11.

Hi Gipicarto, After seeing pictures on the internet of you D11 I have joined this forum to congratulate you on a superb scale model, it is a credit to you. Hope you do not mind me asking questions, how long have you been building this? and the track plate have changed from the first pictures it look like they are cast now? I only ask because a long time ago I started to build a ¼ scale of a tiger 1 German tank but the tracks were one cast lump and I could not get anybody interested in casting them. Would love to see this close up it is fantastic.
Best regards

I am curious to know the price for this model being you are planning to make them for people who are willing to purchase. I am guessing it won't be cheap, and it will most likely cost double from current construction equipment already produced by other manufactures. I am also curious to know if when you do produce a model or two to sell if you will be doing everything manually like you are doing with your model currently. Or will it be made much more quickly with higher-end commercial machining?
gipicarto
11-10-2012, 05:48 AM
Although the project is not yet defined, I'm going to make sure that its cost of production will be aligned, or slightly higher, to the business models currently in production but always taking into consideration the craft quality of the product !
For the realization of the models will be employed traditional construction processes and assembling conjugates to cutting edge technologies so the building will be faster.
I would like to point out that this project has no profit and that each participant, that I personally will choose, will fund only his model !!!

I look forward to the day that such people who are lucky enough to be able to purchase such a beautifull work of art from you that it will be of the most highest quality we've seen here as this is by far one of the most greatest builds ever seen to date amoung many scratch built models out there. This is my personal feeling towards the project. Give the fact of being able to own such a piece in a level of quality unseen by anyone else or by any manufacture sure will be nice. I can only hope that the next project is a CAT excavator. You have already done the worlds most famous dozer and to have a mid to high range CAT excavator would be another fine addition that I am almost sure you could pull off making with every single detail this machine has. Do keep the folks informed of when you will be ready to look at having a production start as this is something that I know A LOT of people would love to see, regardless if they can afford one or not. However given a price subject could put a few on the early savings edge. LOL

That's a pretty cool heat exchanger. At first I was a little confused about the oil flow and coil tubes in parallel, but after following the path, I think it will work just fine. I'm used to seeing single coil tubes, so this is a bit different, but should reduce some flow resistance. Nice work. What diameter will the tubing be?

is this a kit or fully custom
pigeonfarmboy
01-08-2014, 10:01 AM
Hi Gabriele, looks like you came in at a very reasonable price for the base model.
I'm confused on the statement on the Blade Optional Components page: "the following groups of components and their optional parts are available at the end 2014"
One can reserve the model now but the blade and components won't be available? Do you have any kind of release date for when the kits might ship?
gipicarto
01-08-2014, 01:38 PM
Hello friends,
we made sure that the choice of the model configuration of the future owner might be more flexible as possible.
Someone prefers only the base machine for towing a scraper or simply put it on the shelf as knick-knack.
Others now might prefer to book only the base machine to reduce the initial cost and then take the utensils by deferring spending over time.
The tools can be easily installed after on the model.
Now the model bookers, that falls within the batch will be delivered by 2014, must anticipate only spending on basic kit, consisting of over 1700 parts to assemble and paint.
To protect those who book receipt shall be issued stating the reason for payment.
The kit will be delivered (shipped) at the latest by December 2014.
Optional components (blade, ripper, ...) will be put into production once we have finished the first batch of the basic models.
As you well know, we are small and simple craftsmen to make things right need time ...
I remain at your disposal for any further clarification

Aren't you the manufacture? In my eyes you are the owner first then to whom you sell to. At least one in dirt for advertising /testing ya know get all the bugs worked out before the customer finds them. Like making sure the tracks don't arch up from sand grains, or are these made with the purpose to be desk dwellers. ?

Hello Mr. Cooper,
surely you're right, but I think that ... yes I am the constructor and the owner of the object, but until it is not paid, even if it is in my house.
I think also that are most important the agreements with who pays rather than advertising.
I also always like to specify that when a model leaves our laboratories is a fully functional, unique, unrepeatable and guaranteed for life.
This does not exclude that someone want to keep it on a shelf.
Luckily we don't need to prove anything to anyone and always thank those who give us trust !
Bye

... thanks for your greetings,
because forced choice and philosofy, at this moment, we test each model exclusively on the bench just to get a chance to deliver the healthy model in every detail.
At the moment the high cost of materials and components do not allow us to have a model to use as a test machine.
You need to know that in order to increase the technical quality of my work and achieve these results, for buy new equipment, I had to give, even if absolutely reluctantly, my prototype costed years of toil, used for many tests maybe incorrectly not documented.
I hope that we can then improve again and satisfy the needs of all.

I would run the guts out of it and find the weak points and improve, (if there is any). That's just the cost of r&d (research and development). You got a kick-a$$ model!! Don't skimp on the testing. For the quality and high price it easy can be passed onto the customer in trusting a high quality high functioning model is being delivered. Just my .02$ as I know how much time is involved in making this and the detail and quality should reflect that in price. I am a big dozer fan and have thought hard about one of your models as it will save me an amazing amount of time in the shop and to be honest I just don't have the time and skills for such detail!! Got a bit of jealousy factor too! Lol!! Tell your customers to post some digging videos, it's a piece of work for sure!!! Run the guts out of that prototype!!! You surly would achieve more sales!!

Hi,
Even if costs are really prohibitive, especially for us craft builders, we are preparing a demonstration model that will be used at our liking and for new components tests.
Until now our models were required "cleaned".
This past year we were forced to slow down the production of our models due to major health problems that affected my partner and later because of severe seismic events that have hit our territory and our lives. We spent dreadful days and terrifying nights. Yet the situation is not reassuring but we are trying to resume our activities in full swing even if we cannot work with serenity and concentration required. We're behind with deliveries of models already booked and we hope to catch up.
We ask for understanding and patience of those who have trusted us.
