Paul how come in photo #10 you have the brace between the fenders (runs behind the grille) but it's not in any other photo? Is it not necessary?

Had to remove it to get it to fit on the car chassis the body is mounted on it was hitting the shock tower. Normally you would not remove it.

Paul,
What type of filler are you using and what type of paint and color is the red? It looks fantastic!

Thanks!

Lynn in these picks I used the Tamiya filler witch is ok way better than that green squad puddy but I use Evercoat green label filler it is great for plastics or small metal repaired.

Thanks Paul. Need to come up with a paint scheme for my next rebuild. Purple truck is just not cutting it! Oh, I did not paint it- bought it that color.

Paul - question on the paint job...

Masking off for the 2 tone, I see you're using blue tape (probably low stick) to cover the majority of the base paint.

BUT what is that yellow tape you use at the actual edge of color separation?

Ok yes the blue tape is 3m tape i dont use that any more as it can still mar paint so I use maksing film like a body shop would to cover a car to do a fender respray. the Yellow is the best fine line out there way better than and 3m I have used of the last 15 years it is tamiya tape for painting bodys..

Nice job TC. Very helpful.

Thanks Much Snonchaser.

Great how to Paul! what kind of primer do you use? I used that same red paint and it the primer and the black paint I used all 3 pealed. is there something you do to the body after you fill and sand it to prep it for paint?

Thanks

I use dupla filler primer to do the final blocking and then on top of that I use Dupont finish primer sealer this will stop the lifting of the paint and then I use Dupont paints to in rattle cans but I use base coat clear not signal stage.

I have the same cab off of a walmart special. It could give me some more practice on bodywork. I always wanted to do a day cab too.

That would be helpful!

Tamiya Cowboy

Well I dont run antennas out of my cabs I run them threw my stacks Battery's I run Lipos not the monster sized stick packs and I put them between my frame rails on the underside of my deck plates.

What type of glue did you use to keep the styrene in place before using the filler?

Tamiya Cowboy
11-25-2010, 12:49 PM
I use only Mercury Glue Products they are the strongest CA's on the market. There CA even melts the plastic and also glues it together so it is more like a weld.

Hey TC, where can you get styrene, and how do fillers work?:o Sorry for the dumb questions, but I hope to be building a daycab soon, and want to know cab and hood modding inside and out.:)

I'm not Paul... but If you don't have a local hobby shop that carries styrene then you can order it from Tower Hobbies. Here is the link to it.

The stuff is made by Evergreen Scale Models.

The Tower Hobbies Link (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=evg&search=Go)

Evergreen Scale Models (http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/)

As for the filler, you need it to "finish" the body work. The type TC and a lot of the others (Me included, thanks to TC) is made by Evercoat.

You can find it at your local auto body supply place or here

Evercoat.com (http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=1)

The link above is the stuff you want, even though it says "Metal" this is the stuff you want. It's about $40-$45 per quart.

This is a two part filler (Glaze) DO NOT buy the cheaper one part "spot Putty's", the stuff shrinks and cracks and is designed to be used before a glaze any way. Just go right to the good stuff..

Hope this helps

 The pics are all gone! Is it possible to make them appear again? I've a KH that I will be removing the sleeper from this winter. I have a idea what to do, but would be great to see how others have had success with their method(s).
