I am planing a truck mounted crane and am wondering what I could use as a turntable, or slew? I do not have the gear or skills to machine my own gears.

I was going to use the head off a grinder.

Will it be strong enough?

I was thinking of using a Lazy Susan bearing maybe?. Bicycle gears and chain?

What do other people use for their cranes or excavators?

Check this type of bearing. These thin bearings would work nicely for modern style cranes and excavators.

Look at Izzul's komatsu build, he had a neat bearing/gear combo.
Hope this helps.
