the story behind the containerstacker.
I bought the forklift that was the base of my stacker on the internt looking like this.
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/5608/heftorg.jpg
as you can see it's already branded Hyster.
the truck was not based on any kit. just fabricated with any parts forhand.
after taking the plywood top off this was left
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2906/afb0016kl.jpg
the rearwheels steered nice and it was looking to have a good tight turning circle. but it didn't turn at all.
the thing that looks like diff. was just an angled gear. and with the weight on the front it just went staight forward.
the forklift was supposed to carry the "bruder" containers to the stack or the truck. nothing fancy.
also the idea was to keep the original plywood top.
noting goes as planned. so this build didn't either.
the front axle was replaced with the rearaxcle out of an tamiya madbull.
to slow it down the standard motor was replaced with a slower turning one.
and the wheels where turned around to get the forklift narrower than de bruder container long.

somwhere came the idea to shorten it up a little. and with that to replace the body.
looking around the internet I found a Hyster truck that fitted the lengte and width of my models chassis.
the one thing was. it stacked 7+1 containers high. the mast that came with the model just reached 2.
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3829/962hyster7.jpg

The mast is not an exact model of the hyster, the hyster mast is in 2 parts, my mast is in 3 parts, to keep the transporthight of the model within reason
and offcorse the body isn't an exact replica. due to the wheels.
after some plywood work of my own it started to look likt this
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/5488/afb0139kl.jpg
and with the mast on.
http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/7843/hysteropdegrond.jpg

the mast is now the focus of attention. it doen't slide like it's suppossed to.
it reaches the nessesery height. the bottom of the container is over 1.2meter. and it can lift 2 containers at one time
and a small problem with te tyre's they are hollow. and with a container lifted they deflate so the base of the mast hits the ground and driving is not possible.
maybe blocking the deflate hole is enough.

if there are new report about the container stacker I will post it here

grz Peter

so there is some work to do.

What about using BB's or a harder foam in the tires? that way with the weight they dont flatten out? Looks great so far!!

Wow what a sweet build, a machine that makes the job of moving sea containers possible but is majorly over looked. Nice job so far man.

getting some RC-equipment ready. with stuff I had laying around I dug up this little puppy.

I wasn't working when I placeed it aside, the difference between theory and practice made the wheels inside the mast hookup with the boldheads also inside the mast.

http://imageshack.us/a/img30/9214/cc2c.jpg.
after fixing that.
the wheels where up for adjusting. the front of the stacker was to heavy for the standard tamiya "mad bull" tyre. so I got the tyre off the rim. and had put some foam inserts in. that worked one day. after one night standing on the workbench. it got some flatspots. so that wasn't working. and after a flat tyre om my car. and having a look in the runflat tyre. I have made my own inserts. a bit like the foam inserts, and a bit like the runflat rims.
http://imageshack.us/a/img23/5024/s7xl.jpg
I just filled it up with woodstrips. but not to the full. so the tyre flexes just a little. and not looks like a solid one.

http://imageshack.us/a/img266/5176/o9hc.jpg.

the paintjob still needs some attention.

but the mast runs fine. The attachment of the chains hooked on this film. and it's fixed now. and added some grease
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hriygW7CNs
last but is to get the side shift going. and to do that I need to get a servocable to run aside the chains. and I have found a way to do that. I just need to make it presentable.

I also have made some other containers. here is a test to hookup a 40FT one.

Very nice, I look forward to seeing more. Would you show some more details on the lift mechanism.

Thanks

I like this build! Something totally different, yet easily recognizable by anyone who follows the container moving industry. Incredible reach with that mast. Looking forward to some more updates, when time allows.

this little puppy is gooing to have a rebuild.
It got side tracked becouse I didn't get stability in the front tyres. even with filling them with wood. and I had trouble getting a servocable wired trough the mast.
also the tractor tyres where a pain in the *** to me.
the original has "trucktyres" front and rear the same size, but at the front a double set.

but. this one is build to stand level with odd size tyre's the front will get smaller.. the rear will get bigger.
shifting the rear axle is not a hugh problem.
the smaller front tyre's are going to cause some trouble. the one now is a 115mm diameter. the newone will be 100mm. the mast now sits about 10mm off the ground.
so there is goint to be some work.
just havent figgured out if the mast is gooing to sit higher of the axle lower.
also the way the mast is tilted is a simple rotating wheel and a rod. that system gives a hugh way of "play" that is going to be changed as well.

the picture's will follow soon. the plan is to have all the problems fixed in march 2018.

THANK-You for the NEW pics. I can see those, & pics make EVERYTHING a better read. The build looks good. I jealous, I want the same, but the containers are EXPENSIVE, & I don't know how to fabricate them at home.

yes the containers are expensive. if you buy them.
and when you have a stacker like this its silly to have 1 stack of 8 containers high.

I use 1 sheet of 3mm plywood 600x1200mm ( about 2 by 4 feet) for 1 container. in the 1:15 scale. that keeps the cost down. and it takes a sunday afternoon tou build a container.

Do you have pics of the process, or a build thread for the containers?

PetervR

a thread of the building of a container I don't have. just nog enough picture's
I can make a PDF sheet with all the measurements. and the way to build it. that needs some time
The sizes I have drawn are 8ft, 10ft, 20ft, 30ft,40ft 45ft and 45ht highcube. just need some time to make it. and all mesurements are in milimeters

in the meanwile I have these
http://www.pvr-modelbouw.nl/foldtrailerxxft.jpg

www.pvr-modelbouw.nl/XXFT-EU.pdf

www.pvr-modelbouw.nl/XXFT-US.pdf

just print the pdf on a A1 sheet of paper. cut out the parts. glue them to a sheet of 1mm alu or steel. cut out again. fold the dotted lines and gleu, bolt of rivit the parts togetter. add the axles of your scale. and you have a trailer chassis

Brilliant Peter,
The paper templates are a terrific idea.

I love this idea.

Also, I've found some plans on cadgrab for 20, & 40 foot containers. I wonder how hard it would be to convert them to STL files, in proper scale, so they could be 3D printed?

That forklift really looks great. The shipping containers are really cool. How much weight can it lift?

What model is it based on? I'm only familiar with a couple of Hysters, but they had the cab up more in the middle or boom side of the machine.

It looks spot on to the Hyster that they run in the Port of Seattle. The cab is in the rear on it. I had to look, last time I drove by on the overpass to make sure, as I DON'T (& I DON'T miss it neither) go into the port no more.
