View Full Version : 2 shift or not 2 shift?

When I had a King Hauler I had the 3 speed, a Tekin FXR, 45T motor, and a 4:1 reduction. My running is all in the house and I loved that setup as it gave me great control and different speeds. Now that I'm building a Wedico I'm using the aluminum case 3 speed with the belt reduction and some plastic gears inside. I'm also using the dual motor combination box and 2 Buhler motors. My truck is not even near finished yet and I have already stripped 3rd gear and 2 gears in the combination box. I have rebuilt it all but have now lost faith in the system.

I want something more bullet proof but hate to sacrifice, should I go gearhead motor, or different transmission that shifts? I have looked into putting a Tamiya transmission in my truck, it could be done but won't be a real simple thing either.

I may finish the build with what I have and look at a repower the next time gears fly south on me.

Maybe an R2 2 speed from RC4WD with a 4:1 gear reduction. I have that set up in a couple of trucks and it is a real smooth set up. You will still have 2 speeds and the trans should fit in the Wedico chassis with no problem. Plus this set up is almost bulletproof at an affordable price as well.

Your also close enough to come down for a visit and you can look at some parts in person to see what you might like before spending money on them. I have a few different trans on hand and some gear motors as well. You are more than welcome to come over and check them out.

I ran into same problem with combination box, i run twin buhler motors. you need to put in metal gears. i have knock on wood so far no problems. i stripped plastic gears twice!

I like the way that Trans looks... But that's all I know about it. Who sells them?

My combiner is a 1:1 gear ratio. i bought some of the metel gears from ric at garden trucking the rest i bought from mcmater car and drilled them out. it was a pain trying to find the gears in all metel. you can use pinon gears and drill them out as well.

the biggest problem is the buhler motor shaft is 4mm if i remember right,
and its hard to find gears with that bore so i bought some 4mm drill bits and drilled them out. its a hodpoge of differant gears but it works.

I ended up with a Veroma 3 speed with built on transfer case, a Tekin 55T Pro and a 11.1V LiPo. Very happy with the quality and the results in speed and power.

So whats the ratio of the trans and transfer case? I am running a 55T on only 2s with the Tamiya 3-speed and it's still a bit fast. I can only imagine what it would be like on 3s 11.1V! That setup you got there looks great.

Thanks!

Approximately

1st gear 22.5:1
2nd gear 11:1
3rd gear 5.5:1

Very smooth and great speeds.
