My next build that I want to do is going to test me patiants & skills to the max.Have been on heavy medication,& it's knockin the stuffin out of me.
So gunna go w/somethin nice & easy.
Been wanting to build an rc verson of the truck I drive. Special ordered this baby back in 99. It's 4x4,stick,v-10 w/4-56 posi. It's an animal!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4391.jpg
So...,my toy verson best have some hair. Did some parts collecting & just about got it all together.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4379.jpg
I have a headache rack & tool box in the back of the truck.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4384.jpg
So had to come up w/those two parts.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4387.jpg
Nice HUH?
Had to make up new frame rails. Not useing much of the f-350 parts,so don't need a swiss cheese frame.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4380.jpg
She's gunna be pullin some heavy loads on the goose neck.
So she's gittin some good heavy duty axles.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4394.jpg
Was going to use Bruiser trany, but it's a tad on the big side.
So,the stock trany goes in er,of course gear reduced.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4388.jpg
Bought some tires & rims, that I assumed would do the trick.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4382.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4386.jpg
The rims are a wonderful thing! But the tires are to big for me,whachya think?
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4390.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4389.jpg
Anyone know where I can find some smaller dia tires to fit these rims.
There from rc4wd. didn't see any smaller ones.
Thanks for lookin!

Looking real good, nice job on the toolbox and headache rack.
Tire wise, I'd suggest the Tamiya BFG's for a nice scale looking smaller tire. Although, the bigger tires might look better being they stick out a bit and lend to agressive look. The smaller tires might just look funny sticking out past the fenders. The rear fender will be easy to match to the width, and looking at the 1:1 the front fender looks to have a bit more of a flare in the arch than the model body so maybe you could add a bit to that.

Glad you boys are diggin the build so far.
Can't take credit for the tool box & headache rack,Captian scale made them for me awhile back. They turned out really sweet.
Well...gunna use these tires & lift the truck a bit to make up the diff.
Glad I asked you boys before started drillin.
Ed,think they'll be ok for this build. Won't know till get the rear fenders out & see if it's gunna look close to the 1:1.
Hopefully will have some time today to get a jump on this baby.
My main concern is if I have room to stash all the hydraulics for the front & rear blade:eek: Now this will bring it to a new level. This plow setup is getting dump springs & the whole banana. Really don't want to use servos to run the stuff.Time will tell!
Thanks for lookin!

Yea baby! Did some diggin lookin for hydraulic stuff,& scored big time!
Forgot I had this garbage fom India,so this is the perfect time to use it up. Also have one of these cheap plastic pumps.EXCELLENT!!:D Kinda looks like there's enough room to pull it off. I HOPE!

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn50/FreddyGearDrive/freddys%20best/dumppics4400.jpg

Hey freddy that truck would look good as a long box and a ext cab you should do that.. And them tires look BIG on there..

Espeefan
09-18-2010, 04:41 PM
Looking great! The stance is perfect, but the tires still do look a little over sized. Not sure what other options are out there. How would a 1/14 scale semi tire look under the fenders? Dually rims would be perfect in the rear. The only downside is you'd loose the rims, which are accurate. Shame the tires aren't just a little shorter. Either way, Fred, you'll figure it out, I am sure. Going to be a neat build to watch.

I wonder how it would look with with 1.55's but rc4wd doesn't make rims in a dually set. I'd echo that for the ride height, the tires look too tall.

Espeefan
09-18-2010, 09:06 PM
Not sure if all the 1.5 tires are shorter in height. Some 1.5 tires are almost as tall as 1.9 tires, but the rim they mount to is smaller. Maybe you could stretch some shorter overall height 1.5s over the 1.9 rims and get a little better looking combo?

Bigrigger
09-19-2010, 01:41 PM
Looks great Freddy! How about you trim the tires? Maybe cut the outer section of tire off, that would make it look more scale. It will also fix your turning problem.:D Can't wait for an update!:D

Yea! She's short, that's why I'm going a different route. When I first started this build I took measurements off of my real truck because it looked short to me also. Then checked the model in 14th scale. :o That would have been fine,EXCEPT IT'S 10th scale. Figured out My head was up my a$$ half into the build!:D So between the diffs, wheels, tires & my screw up,It's now going to be the plow King!
Don't know if you boys ever seen my salt truck, that looked like a robot inside & swore I'de never go that route again. Didn't take long & here's another one.

Freddy, I know those tires are awesome but go with the stock tamiya tires and it will look more scale. The 1/10 f350 body with the 1/14 tires usually looks good. I've seen other dually projects from other people and they look fine. That will also help narrow up the rear end.
Other than that it looks great as usual.

See ya later today.

Wow, that is some fine machine work, Fred. This is a crazy set-up! I can't believe you managed to fit all the needed electronic and hydraulic gear into the chassis, plus the cab still fits! Amazing. Probably the one of the cooler Tamiya Highlift builds I've seen. Most guys just crawl or run the trails with their trucks, but you are going to push some serious snow.
