That is pretty cool. Makes sense that they could do this in todays world too.

While the Cat dozer is okay, the world's largest dozer is the Komatsu D575A-3SD, weighing in at 320,000 lbs. and sporting a 92 cubic yard blade. The attached video shows it working in Australia and it is the RC version- note the operator standing to the rear with controller. Of course, the mining industry has gone a step further with autonomous operation of 390 ton haul trucks - GPS positioned and operated by its on-board computer. Seems to take all the fun out of operating!

I got to "operate" a D575 in western Kentucky about 10 years ago. (Actually, just got to move it around a service area and push up a small blade load.) Big, smooth and really cool! There are several operating in West Virginia, which has the biggest D575 population in North America.

Yeah, like most products, once they reach market saturation or the market changes, they get pushed to the side. The large crawler dozer US market has been shrinking dramatically since the mid-1980's, replaced mostly with large hydraulic shovels and excavators. With hybrid technology and super-advanced control systems, it will be interesting to see what's pushing dirt in 20 years.

And emission requirements have monkeyed the wrench!
