Add me to the list of guys who can't wait to see some more photos and your impression of this thing. It's huge. I had no idea just how huge until I read some specs and saw some build threads on one. Look how large the bucket is. One of those side walk bricks could easily fit inside the bucket! Is 70 pounds heavy enough? :D

JAMMER
08-16-2010, 10:59 AM
Thanks a lot Nathan the bucket is big but the pressure is up there 32 bars or 464 lb. I'd say that was enough. Ed

Who was the shipping contractor? Is your model shipped fully assembled? I am guessing this is why it is so costly to ship the model I am looking at. The quote I got was from a shipping contractor I have never heard of. Maybe I can talk them into using a different carrier. I am amazed it would cost nearly $800 dollars to ship the excavator from Seipt.

Dan

JAMMER
08-18-2010, 01:10 PM
Dan I bought mine from Vario and it was all put together. they chose the shipper Fedex. They probably do a lot of shipping through them and get a break on the shipping. Ed

CatdrvR
08-18-2010, 01:16 PM
Golly! I will have to contact Seipt and see if he will be willing to ship through them. Are you sure Vario used Fedex the whole way? Sometimes the shipper changes when it enters the USA.

Ed, what kind of radio problems are yoy having. Maybe we can help you out. Radio programming or set up is almost a universal thing these days. Unless you are having radio interferance issues? Might have heard something about that with these construction machines. Anyway, hope you get things ironed out!

My radio problems are I have a RDS 8000 when I turn it on it starts beeping and the screen shows TH-Hi! Basic. I changed the left stick to self centering so they both do that. It got something to do with the throttle I think. I just talked to Airtronics and they said it had to be reprogramed to send it back to them. Ed

SonoranWraith
08-23-2010, 02:28 PM
That is an annoyance, but it stops if you just pull back on the stick to the airplane zero throttle position for a second then back to center. I have the same issue on same radio and it's a "feature." I guess it is in case you have some throttle in it when you turn on your model plane?

Just got some good news Airtronics just called and said they fixed my radio and are shipping it today maybe by monday I'll be able to run the excavator. I also got 2 5000 mAh 40 c 11.1 batteries and 2 5000 mAh 40 c 14.8 batteries. I ordered A voltage drop from Digi Key and board also a voltage and amp meter so I can check the draw. Ed

JAMMER

I had planned on running the 14.8 in the tractor and dump trailer with the voltage drop it takes it from 14.8 to 12 volts if I ever got it build and the 11.1 in the excavator but we shell see that why I got the voltage and amp meter so I can check the voltage and amp draw and drop. Ed

JAMMER
09-17-2010, 05:40 PM
Here is an up date on the excavator. I have some bad news and some good news. The Airtronics 8 channel radio won't run the excavator I need a three proportional radio and unless I knew someone that knew how to wire a radio because today I found out all channels are proportional they just aren't wired like that. So out comes the new 10 channel Airtronics radio and as soon as I learn how to run it I will post video if I can figure out that. Isn't this electronic world just wonderful. Ed :rolleyes::eek:

CatdrvR
09-17-2010, 06:04 PM
Why don't you run a Futaba F-14, or a Futaba F-16. You could even step up to their computer radios like the Futaba FX-20 or the FX-30. They are pricey but they are nice. That or you could go with Brixl radios which are extremely expensive. Those would all work perfectly for your application.

Dan

pugs
09-17-2010, 06:33 PM
I found this company the other day as well. Looks like a fairly decent transmitter for not to bad a price (at least compared to the Brixl). Supposed to have telemetry feedback as well.

JAMMER
09-17-2010, 06:40 PM
Yes sir Jeff $868.90 US might go all the way and buy the 1150 dollar one that has 22 channels I think and you can add modulars to expand it. Ed

pugs
09-17-2010, 08:06 PM
Been trying to read up on them, but to me it looks like the MC-19t is 12 channel and the MX-22IFS is also 12 channel, just a diff layout and such, the MC-19t seemed to be a bit modular for adding other switches and such.

I can't be sure about it though, haven't read all of it yet and it's native in German and some of the translation is odd sounding. If you get one, please be sure and give a thorough review on here so we know more what it is and is capable of.

JAMMER

Finally got the radio to work today. I took the excavator out and found out it will dig unbroken ground. I would have taken a video but no one to run the camera. I only had a small 12 volt battery on it one they sent me to run the dozer and wheel loader. I ordered some 6.5 bullet connectors today so I can hook the lipo's up to it. Ed

Yes I did get some run time on it not much. After running it I realized that my sticks don't self center but this winter I will send it back to airtronics and have then put the springs and arms to make it self center and reprogram it for that. I also need some better batteries so I got some 6.5 bullet connectors coming for the lipo batteries i got. Ed

JAMMER
09-27-2010, 11:15 AM
Well today I had to send the radio to Airtronics to have the sticks self centering and to reprogram it. I also called Vario in Germany because I am getting a loud squeal out of the pump motor sounds like a bearing but Frank said to change the speed of the motor I did on the 3 way switch and it still does it just not as loud. If I shut it off for a minute or two and turn it back on the squeal is gone for a while and comes back. Like I said if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any. Ed

pugs
09-27-2010, 03:09 PM
Plenty of fluid in the tank?? If the tank got low (or the suction hose is at or above the fluid level) the pump would cavitate and that sounds nasty and ruins the pump as well. If the tank is good on level then I would suspect a bearing in the pump.

JAMMER
09-27-2010, 04:22 PM
The noise sounds like it coming from the motor not the pump. What is confusing to me is you shut it off and start it up and it will run for a while before it starts to squeal again. I guess I will have to pull it apart and run one at a time and see what happens. I will have a video in a few days my Mac man told me I had the wrong cable but he is going to put it on you tube for my nothings spectacular but I was digging were waste management truck turn around to pick up a container and it it packed run a crush and tar so it was hard digging and of course if I had self centering sticks it would have been easier to operate but I tried. Ed

JAMMER

Looks really good. You need some more time behind the sticks though I can see (and spring centering).

Just my observations from running full size machines (not often but a few times), would think it translates over into scale RC, and your not the only one I've seen run an RC one like that. Watch this vid and notice how most of the digging does not occur at the full reach of the machine, it's hard work way out there. Also notice how most of the digging is carried out by the stick movement not the bucket. The bucket is used to adjust the tooth angle along the path you are pushing the bucket with the stick and boom. When you figure out the sweet spot to run it, it will take alot of the load off the machine and be easier to get full buckets nearly everytime.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guM8NaLDenY&feature=related

Nonetheless though, very nice work! Should be a very fun toy.

Looking good Ed. Sounds and looks like you are slowly shaking all the little bugs out of this machine. I'm sure it's been frustrating finally getting to this point, bt i'm sure it'll be a digging son of a gun with some more stick time. Keep that dipper at a steeper angle, and you'll have more power and better control. Watch a good operator, and you'll never see the tracks move an inch, unless their tramming.

Good video Ed, your gettimg a little stick time in while your waiting on parts anyway. You'll be laying a new water or sewer line to your place here soon, with that thing.

There's a forklift at our disposal for unloading. I have to have a forklift for my machine too. Everything is there we'll need.

Thanks Claus it is sot of a work in progress bugs keep showing up but I guess that is the nature of the beast. I had some problems at Cabin Fever mainly radio and a pump noise. I think I got the radio fixed will know better today. As far as the pump that thing has made noise on and off sense I got the excavator. Right now I am working on my mining shovel waiting for parts. That's my story and I am sticking to it. Ed
