hey everyone, a few months ago i saw a video of a truck hauling a little cardboard Caterpillar box and I thought, how cool!
I work for a Cat dealership and i immediately told the guys at work to save the boxes we all normally throw out. It didnt take long to gather quite a few various boxes. I now have way more than i need and before i throw them into the cardboard recycle bin I thought, maybe someone would like some?
Free of charge, just cover shipping.

the size fits the standard tamiya deck width real nice.

anyone interested send me a PM. the boxes can be folded up for small cheap shipping cost. I plan on filling the ones i keep with spray foam insulation to give more densityand strenght also glue the ends shut.

sorry Mods, i figured this was the best place to post??

PM sent, those are ~so~ neat.

You could also cut blocks of blue-foam insulation to stiffen then. A 4x8 sheet is dirt cheap, or hit the dumpster at a construction site for scraps.

Very true. Great idea and way better than mine:eek::eek: that spray foam can get real messy, real quick:eek: lol

This is not a fire sale , if enough people are interested, the supply of various boxes is endless. It took about 3 weeks to collect what is in the pics.Once these are gone I will let ya know when another batch is ready:)

Actually, quite a few oil and fuel filters come in this style of box but they would look huge on the flatbed I think....hmmm , i will have to measure dimensions and convert to scale to see if its reasonable. thanks for the suggestion:cool:

heres a few more pics of boxes on pallets. Thanks Dwayne ;)

Now just so everyone is aware.... there is a ugly sticker on these boxes! with proper positioning you can hide it or the sticker can be removed. you just have to figure out a way to get the glue that always stays behind off:eek::mad:
I use margarine, it works well.

Depends on the adhesive.

I try my alcohol medical wipes first, and if the stuff is still resistant, and the material can take it, I resort to lighter fluid (yellow plastic bottle Ronson stuff) in the dried out alky-wipe pads.

Considering this is cardboard, I'd try lifting the labels with hot air from a hair dryer, or a heat gun if the dryer isn't enough. Then go at the residue with the solvents.

Finally...

Got some time to work on the boxes, pulling the labels and removing the adhesive. Advice: use ronson liquid lighter fluid, and dried-out wipes, or small j-cloth scraps (kleenex is too flimsy) Apply the fluid to the cloth, dampen the adhesive, and wipe as much as ytou can off. Repeat until the surfac e is clean. The box ink won't run, and if you're good, it only takes 2 or 3 scraps to get a box clean of adhesive.

You can always print a ~scale~ shipping label to go in that spot if you do not want to attempt this method.

I also thought - and please chime in you you agree - that some of us might pay for un-used boxes straight from Packaging. Cat would get free advertising (we can post to TamiyaUSA) and they could even sell 'em for use with their own toys (or mebbe make a deal with Bruder, hm?)

Just thinking outside the 'figurative' box, eh?

Glad you like them, they are perfect for simple cargo.....are you telling me you just got the envelope today?!:eek: Good old postal service eh?

If anyone is interested I have more boxes collected than in the pictures I posted!
Didn't take long and I have a few new box sizes to post pics of .

My job at work is doing CAT certified rebuilds. We have underground scoops with high hours that came from Peru. We strip down to the frame, sandblast and paint. Then the machine is assembled from the ground up with all new parts and rebuilt components. The same is done with the cab, stripped and reassembled all new, that's where I get the majority of the small boxes. Every light, relay, switch etc all come in the nice little boxes:). It takes me about 4 months from start to finish per machine and when one is done, another rolls in:eek: Still have 6 waiting to be done:eek::eek: It's a great job and a great supply of boxes:D

Mario,

Gonna try to take some pics of the boxes you sent tomorrow, and note the coding numbers on them so people can ask for specific ones without error.

I'll also supply a quick-&-dirty shot or three of how many boxes can be placed on a stock Tamiya flatbed (w/o palletization) for reference.

A question for those with pallets: What are the dimensions of a standard pallet? I've got ~tons~ of coffee stir-stix and popsicle sticks for use, and want to fabricate my own. Anyone willing to take a few pics and note dimensions, please do so (or make a DIY thread for it, perhaps?)

Free cargo box inventory update!....

So, as I said before, I been collecting more various boxes and have come to realize its time to tell my co workers to STOP COLLECTING PLEASE! lol.

I was going to post pics of each sized box as Wolf suggested but once I rounded them all up I saw what a daunting task right now and to save time heres a few pics. if you see something that may work for you or need a bunch to fill a loading dock area, send me a pm and ill give you a exact size of each.

The small ones that fit 4 wide across a Tamiya trailer are popular and I now have atleast 30 of them. All kinds of shapes and sizes and many combinations cover a deck perfectly.

these ones with the fragile symbol are thicker cardboard and has a center divider. Used for crankshaft bearing sets.
