Well I have been quite on the board for a a month or so because I have been working a deal on a real Kenworth cabover and landed the deal finally over the weekend. 79 big cab with small cam cummins, 13 spd, 3:70 rears on pete 359 airride with brand new brakes, drums, wheel seals and batteries. It has twin stacks and breathers and both breathers go to a cartrage on either side of the truck which is cool.

Congrats, Wade! You lucky dog. :D So what are your plans for the KW? Just some little custom touches here and there, as you can afford it, or something more, like paint, a restoration, engine overhaul, ect? How many miles has she got on her? Just a truck for running to a show now and then, or maybe some weekend hauling on the side?

Thanks,

For now just clean it up good and get everything working on the truck and take it to some shows and parades and sign it up for the ATHS.

Then a yr or so down the road when I get money ahead again start going through the truck good and putting on some bling at the same time as it warrants. I might do some light weekend work but it tough to justify the cost to run the insurance and heavy highway use tax and the fuel especially at $3 gal and the truck holds 240

The air intakes are behind the cab the canisters have always been behind the front wheel and always the primary one on the driver side. The batter box is on the passenger side. In my case I have two canisters which is some what unique. Yes I will keep you posted on the updates. I hope to get the title and license this coming week.

Thanks guys yes a little elbow grease has payed off. I have the rims at the buffing house as we speak......They are going to cut them on Monday and I will be able to pick them up on Wednesday. So I hope by this coming weekend to have some more pics to show off. The truck is at a shop and I had all the fluids dropped and new put in and they have created a list of things that need to be addressed. They are doing some like a universal joint bad, steering sector bad, couple brake cans bad, did some small items on the engine which turns out not to be a small cam 350 but a big cam 400 which is a plus. A lot of the items I can do myself but it is nice to have the professional tell you what is up........Once I get the truck on Thursday I will stop by Vanderhaag's a used truck/ salvage yard and see what they will give me on the headache rack on the back. I get that thing off the truck and the rims all buffed out that will change the look a lot. Then I will start working on cutting the fuel tanks out. I have a new CB radio, speaker, and JVC CD player for the truck also which I will work on installing once I get it back did not see the need to have in truck while at the shop.......

Slowly but shirley getting there. I also have a friend that has a parts truck and I bought the main dash and second lower dash off him and about 10 or 12 items out of the cab to make my cab interior complete. Oh a nother friend has a Pete and he took his horns off to put 7 cab lights on and he gave them to me they need a good cleaning but are nice so like I said slowly but shirley.

Wow, what a change! Boy Wade, those don't even look like the same rims anymore. Well worth the investment. The old KW is looking better and better. Once the tanks are polished, it'll look even better. Kind of looks like the frame was painted red at some time, or is that a primer under the black paint chips?

Here is with some changes. Like adding 5 lights down the side of the cab. removed the headache rack. redid the deck plate. Yes the frame was red and is going to go back red in do time. the breather canister painted. the Kenworth emblem cleaned up. the tread plate buffed out and new skid plate redone in the foot pocket. some small areas touched up. oh ya replaced the short step below the tank with a longer one and put a different tank with the bung at the back instead of the middle. I have a longer step on driver side already. installed a new black plastic spash guard on the bottom edge of the cab.

All small items that just take time and lit money but that is my goal before the first show next May......

I'll post pics of the inside once I get the cb in place and the new full size mattress. Wife will not let kids in truck since they have to get in the back until I get a new mattress. Plan for this weekend.......:D

Well a little update on the Fatcab...........

I have removed the 5th wheel and slide plate. I have our fab shop doing some welding on it and clean up. Since the 5th wheel plate has been pulled it has given me the chance to work on the air lines running down the driver side framerail from behind the cab. So I removed every air line for the brakes and airbags and have replaced them all and over the winter one airbag has grown a leak and I have it off right now along with the torque arms on the top of the rearends. So here in another week I will have everything from behind the cab replaced or looked over very hard. I have a show on May 6th and 7th that I'm taking the truck too so I will post picks then of the updates discussed and more to come in the following weeks.

Oh I also bought a trailer. A 1988 Utility reefer. 48' x 96" with sliding tandem with alum wheels. I pick it up sometime in May.

Paul is going to help me paint it once I get it

But this is the trailer here I thought I had one of it

Well I took the truck to my first show back on May 7th and I was very surprised by the comments on the old truck. Very positive........

I had a wheel seal go out on the trip. I just got that fixed along with a swing arm bushing and had them install my old style 13 spd shift knob.

I pick the truck up this week and I need to finish installing the 5th wheel because the first weekend in June I'm going after the trailer.

Well have been working on the Fatcab.

I have both doors torn down and have new latches and strickers to go in both doors and have both handles cleaned up and lubed up. I bought new window track felt and wipers for across the top of the door panel where the window moves pass. I have thermo/sound deading material to line the inside of the door with also when everything goes back together. I have the headliner out of the top of the cab and have all the cab lights off the truck and ready to remove the horns. I have a nice set of long horns to go back on the truck and a new set of LED bullet style cab lights. For Christmas I got a stainless steel battery box lid. I have removed the air cleaner canisters and have a set of stainless steel one's to go back on but the intake hole is lower so I have to mod the bracket on the side of the frame to keep the top of the breathers from not hitting the bottom of the cab. Oh ya I found a new in the box set of rubber splash guards that run on the bottom side of the cab at KW they are $220.00 a side I picked the pair up for $200 on ebay. When I pull it out of the shed this spring it will look a lot different then it does now. Stay tuned.

Rod,

Nice find........That truck is coming alone it looks like. I see somethings I want to do to mine like the chrome trim around the windshields and the three grill bars. I have the bars just have to install them. I also have the black rubber splash guard to go on the bottom of the cab. I have been working on mine here of late. I have both doors torn down and have installed thermo sound deading material in the door panels, new window track felt and window edge wipers. All the door latches and strickers. I have the roof interior out putting new cab lights on and horns along with 4 x 6 stereo speakers. I have picked up some new stainless steel tubing for the grab handles about the door. I put chrome eyebrows on the top of the side windows and installed my new LED old school turn signals. I have 4 pcs out to be reupholstered. Slowly getting things around. My first show this yr is May 5th so have to stay busy. Thanks for thinking of me Rod good to hear from you hope all is well in Pittsburg and wish you well in March at Brookfield look forward to lots of pictures.

Well an update,

I have the upholstry back and both doors are done. Inter metal door panels are painted along with the hardware and the upholstry installed. The LED cab lights are in and working. The new matched horns are on and blowing loud. The upper grab bars are installed. The rubber splash molding is installed. The door decals are on. The lower steps are buffed out with new slip tread pad installed. The new stainless steel battery box cover is installed. The new aluminum trim around the grill shell is installed with new clips for the winterfront/bug screen and chrome hardware. Rebuilt and cleaned up the two fans that hang between the windshields. I installed a new CD player and 4 4 x 6 speakers to play some good old trucking songs.
This weekend I have to replace an airbag that is leaking and install two air lines from the air tanks to diverter valve and I can pull the truck outside which it has not seen daylight since last August. I have my first show in two weeks so have to get it ready to roll. I plan on taking pictures of all of these updates but I want to do it outside instead of inside the shop.

I'm taking pictures for Largecar Magizine of the Pride in your Ride show in two weeks so there will be plenty.

Well now that the weather is starting to feel spring like. It is time to do some updates to the fatcab. I bought a new Valley Chrome front bumper and new three plate license plate holder for under it. I bought a year or so ago some stainless steel air cleaners which after trying to install them they will not work on my truck. This winter I found a different set that will and traded my set for them. My first show is the first weekend in May so I'm hoping to have both items installed and truck cleaned up and ready to go. As soon as I get it outside and cleaned up I will post some pictures of the truck with the new items.

I have been to two shows this year with another 4 to go and three parades.
I have the bottom rail on my trailer sandblasted and getting ready to paint it. I'm trying to get all ready for the National Antique true show in Springfield Mo next May.

Slow and steady it just takes time and money and neither one I have a whole lot of.....
