Powering lights from the reciver

Just wondering if it is safe to power lights (LED) from an open channel slot from a receiver? I see that there are a +,- on the reciver cover and it holds a steady voltage.

If it is safe is there a device out there that will plug into the reciver and act as an on/off stitch? For example if I have a 4 channel radio with my 4th channel un used. Is there any way to use that channel to turn my lights on or off?

I'm not interested in the mfu as I just want a simple on off function

Yes, it is safe to power LEDs from an open slot on your transmitter; you'll need to install a resistor in the line between the receiver plug and the LEDs. Most LED have a max rating around 3 volts, anything over that will fry the LED. There are electronic switches that can plug into the receiver and power on or off various optional equipment.

I know of several LED light kits for aircraft (http://www.bladehelis.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1894) that incorporate a switch with the light unit; most of the aircraft LED kits have flashing red and green LEDs as well as steady on (solid) white LEDs.

Ok thanks for answering my question..I added 9 LEDs to my cab and pulled power from the reciver but didn't think to check if that was to much for it.. I used a resistor on all leads and it worked great. I will be adding trailer lights soon and did not want to go thru all this trouble to find out I could fry something...

I will look into that switched power

I have powered the Headlights on My Robbe Linde H50 fork lift truck model from the receiver using the battery connection to power the light and a Picoswitch and used the fifth channel on the TX to turn them on and off
