Hi I'm looking at building a rc excavator. I just can't make my mind up about what scale to go for 1/12. 1/16. Or finally 1/10. Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject ???? 😜

Hi it all depends on what you have as far as trucks and other equipment. If you have nothing and just starting out and want to get parts and other trucks and equipment the most reasonable and popular would be 1/14.5 the 1/12 scale is a big heavy machine. So there you go it your preference have fun what ever you decide. Ed

Build it to match what you have. If you have nothing else, and you are thinking about other models, consider their scale factor. If you plan to scratchbuild your own trucks, choose whatever size you like. Check what parts are available too. It's easier and quicker to use readily available components, rather then to make your own.

1/1 is best, of course.

Jammer,

Is the bruder stuff 1/14.5 or is there some other popular line of off the shelf stuff that makes that size a good choice?

(I'm pretty slim on this subject and feel like I'm in the same boat as spike. For me, I seem to have gravitated to the die cast conversion path and seems like most of that is 1:50 (too small and very hard to convert) and 1:16, and maybe 1/25?). I'm still learning...

I believe Bruder has a series that they say is 1/16th and they make others which I'm not sure what scale they use. There is also some disagreement as to the exact scale of Tamiya trucks. I've seen 1/13.5, 1/14, 1/14.5 and there might even be more :o
