Half-round Dump Box

[RCP57]

I have been wanting to try and build one of these for a while but hadn't really found the time so when a customer asked if I would be interesting in doing one I was excited. I put the order on the to do list and it's time has come up.

This will be going on an extended chassis with a drop axle.

Here's what I have so far...

I put in a false floor so that the screwdrive is hidden a little more. I didn't just want to leave a hump in the middle of the box floor so double walling the bottom was the only option.

Do you feel that the tub is more top heavy than the square box... I remember pulling a rock box and man was it up a lot higher than the hilbilt I had been pulling...

No it's not bad , some operators can't seem to put enough on.
I haul a lot of demolition, so I like not having corners to hang up on.

This one measures 17" from the front bulkhead to the spill plate. Does that work out to just under 20'?

I welded up the ladder this afternoon... I cheated and used mild steel.:cop: Soooo much easier! I have made ladders out of aluminum welding rod before...that's why I made a special trip to buy 1/8 steel!lol

Yeah I guess hey Rob. I would outsource to China but I would like my stuff to be good quality....lol I'm heading back to my normal job in a few weeks so this will have to come second from now on.:( I hope people will understand that it may take some time to get anything done in my shop...at least until we shut down in the fall again.

Pretty much all of my stuff has been custom made to suit the needs of my customers. If someone wants one then I will happily build it to their specifications(as close as possible). They are more pricey than the standard box though($950CAD with limit switches).

Yes I hope so. I can't say that everyday or project is fun but for the most part I enjoy building stuff for other people. Most guys have given me a general direction to look and let me take it from there and that's pretty cool! I appreciate them having that confidence in me and trusting my judgment. There have been plenty of sleepless nights wondering how in the h3ll I'm going to make something look and function correctly or worrying if the customer will like what they've paid for but that's also part of the excitement I guess. When you achieve those things it makes it all worth while. This has given me the opportunity to build things that I would never build for myself all while making a little bit of money. Of course I want to become more successful at this but I also want to keep it a "fun thing" first and foremost. One of the best parts about this is I get to make other people's visions come to life. How cool is that? Oh, and my commute to work each day isn't too bad either....:cool:

Yesterday was hilarious! It's nice to see that we can all have some light hearted fun with one another without it turning nasty and stupid. If you can't laugh at yourself then you're in trouble. Next time someone else is wearing the yoga pants though.:p

I have put a few hours into them Chris but mostly I have been busy with these two beauties. Disassembly for powder coat, dropping it off, picking it up and reassembly afterward has taken up a fair chunk of time. I am hoping to wrap them up tomorrow and then get back to work on the truck boxes.

It turned out pretty nice didn't it. I decided to add ladders onto the sides and have it coated velvet black. I polished the tarp cover too. Looks sparkly!lol Hopefully someone will want to own it for themselves. I'll post up more pictures of both once they are completed.

On that note, the best thing you can do when you are finished up with one thing is to get going on the next! I started on these while the other parts were being powder coated but now I can focus on them until they are finished.

I was busy most of the day getting Brandon's trailer ready to ship and sending it off but I have been able to get some work done on these here and there over the last two days. The tailgates are mounted and the fenders are welded on.
