Hi,

I have plans to build tipper/dump truck, and also a tipper/dump semi trailer..

I will probably just use a screw drive setup for the hoist..

What is the rating or specifications of the gear head motor I need to buy??

What RPM??

What torque figures??

Cheers Mick..

There are a few options with screw drive....for trailers use the screw drive set up that OZ truck showed us...

If you want a 6 wheel dump truck there are a few company's that sell a lift that simply bolts in to the frame (search Carson or lesu ) and you connect it to a low geared motor such is what Carson offers.

Here is a thread I made with the use of a lesu screw lift and Carson motor in a tractor dump truck...

Thanks everyone for the replies..

Lmackattack.. I do like the LESU lift setup.. It wouldn't be that difficult to make.. What are the specs on the geared motor that you have driving it??

OZTRUCK, I love that Western Star.. I sent it to my dad as the company he used to drive for has one just like it (albeit a 6x4)..

The motor / gear reduction u it is mady by Carson. I'm not sure of the gear ratio but it simply works off a speed controller tucked in the frame. It's controlled by a 3 position switch on my radio. It's perfect for a tractor dump set up. Plenty of power for its size. I used a u joint to turn the screw drive lift. This way the motor can be solid mounted into place and the u joint takes up the angle change as the box raises and lowers. Word of warning ...I don't feel this Carson motor / lift has the needed power to lift a heavy loaded trailer box.. It will lift a tractor size bed but not a longer trailer bed...

Here is the link to the Carson motor.

OK,

So I placed an order at Hobbyking..

I bought this gear head motor.. http://hobbyking.com.au/hobbyking/store/__26267__133RPM_Brushed_Motor_w_75_1_Gearbox.html

Some of these nice little steel universals.. http://hobbyking.com.au/hobbyking/store/__40743__Universal_Drive_Shaft_Coupling_for_Boat_2 3mm_x_4mm_2pc_.html

Plus a couple of LiPo LV alarms, and some Deans connectors.. Its time to replace the Tamiya plugs in the trucks, and put some of my older LiPo's back into use..

I'll just have to wait til it all arrives and see if the gear head motor has enough torque to lift the tipper.. If that fails, I found a gear motor on eBay that has 4.5KG/cm of torque..

The reduction sounds plenty good...hopefully the motor puts out the torque....let us know how it works out...
