Well I gathered up a few parts with help from a few guys from the board to get my next build underway! This truck is a tribute to the Peterbilt that I owned for 5 years. Here is what I got done with the cab I extended the cowl and changed the angle of the windshield. I also got some mods done to the hood and started working on the fenders. Enjoy! Thanks for looking!

Its gonna be awesome Brian!

The front tires look taller than the rears on the 1:1 is that just an illusion?

Brian in PA
11-14-2010, 08:23 AM
Thanks guys! Scott, yeah its an illusion, The front tires are actually the same height as the drives, but they are 22.5 and drives are 24.5 the sidewalls are thicker on the fronts. This probably helps with this illusion. Thanks!

That's gunna be a sweet lookin truck when your done, cause the 1:1 sure is.
In the 5 years you owned that truck, you didn't by any chance keep a record of what you spent in wax & armor-all?:D

Brian, I have a feeling this will be your best build yet, given your incredible track record already. Are you going to paint it to match your old 1:1 or will the cab be yellow, like your other models? Three trucks for you, and I to am still stuck on my 1st.

Looking really good Brain! I never even noticed the rivets on your other trucks! They blend in so nice. Course once you paint the truck, they should. Are those rivets from scale hardware? What size did you go with? I've been wanting to add rivets to my Wedico, but the cab, hood, and grill sure isn't going to drill as nice plastic! D'oh!

Espeefan
01-04-2011, 12:44 AM
Thanks Brain. Been wondering what size would be good for my Wedico.

Monighan, those rivets are cast pieces that you drill a hole for and then glue them in place. Dummy rivets, I guess you could call them? :D They are really nice.

9W Monighan
01-04-2011, 06:52 AM
I used some drive rivets before but they don't come too small. I know a guy who simulated rivets and he made a punch, like a paper punch, hand held, that dimpled the sheet metal too. He made literally thousands punched out of thin brass sheet then glued them to his project.

Brian in PA
01-04-2011, 09:12 AM

Please feel free to shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong, but maybe the aircleaners look higher or at least different because it's a 357 rather than a 379, so I believe the hood slopes compared with the straight hood of a 379, and it may be shorter too. Maybe that's why it looks different??

Brian in PA
08-17-2011, 09:22 PM
Nick you are correct about the hood being shorter and sloped. The 357 is the same as a 379 short hood except for the 357 is fiberglass instead of aluminum as found on both 379's reg, and ex hood models. My truck had the Donaldson breathers instead of the Vortox ones. The Vortox units are alot bigger but sit lower on the cowl for some reason. The Vortox AC's also go down to the bottom edge of the cab an most of the trucks I have seen.

I found some material that already had the circle cut in it, so all I had to do is cut out the step bracket from it. It was a very time consuming task! I'm still not completely happy with the screws but I had trouble drilling/tapping anything smaller, so that will have to do... for now.

Thanks Mike! The Pete cabs have alot of altering dome. First I extend the cowl out 1/4 inch, during this I also square off the cowl a little. The cabs that were used after the 359's were like this. Then I re-angle the windshield 1/4 in the middle. This is the hardest part. then I raise the roof (dome it) about 1/8th of an inch. Thanks! The GRU is an Integy unit. It was recommended by Travis(fhhhstix) I picked up mine from Ebay. I'm still working on making everything fit, but it should work out. I may not be able to use the vibrator but well see!

Ahh, that's more like it! When you tease posted the cab on the chassis, minus the hood and dump box, I was a bit disappointed! Glad to see you gave in and had to try the whole combo together. That's nice! Now hurry and finish it up! It's so close.

It really is a miniaturised replica of the 1:1 in your pic there. Beautiful paint finish, The metal hardware looks so good, there are a lot of people coveting that grill I think.
Like I said earlier, build of the month? No, build of the year!

Hey Brian, i would like to know how you got your hood to fit perfectly flat when closed? As you know i cut mine as a 359 and i still have trouble at the cab and hood for it to lay flush? I have tried readjusting and still can't get it to lay right? So what's your magic touch?

Oh and everything i have seen and all the new post's too, this is really a very nice and sweet looking ride:D:D can't wait to see more:D:D

Thanks Mike!! It is a lot of trial and error, and bending, and sanding, and filling, and mock up. This hood doesn't fit as good as my other trucks did. I think because I shortened it. It fits better than the picture shows, the cab is just sitting on the chassis there.
