What's the best way to make ladders, handle rails and cat walk on a 1/16 excavator? The body is entirely made out of steel.

Bend up some K&S Piano wire and braze or solder it together. (Tig if you're a wizard-status welder) That's what I have planned for the Vario.

I just made a ladder for my 1/10 scale Land Rover, used lead solder.

Nice job on the ladder, did you use a flame or iron for heat?

I used electric iron 80w. and 2.5mm brass rods from a hobby store. Flame torch tends to give to much heat to one spot and metal starts bending on its own. I actually just finished the roof rack as well. Here is the result

Jack that looks great. How did you attach the ladder to the actual body? In my case, the body of the Cat 390D excavator is entirely made from steel. Can I solder brass to steel? Or how can I do it?

You can also thread the ends of the ladder and attach the same way as side mirror bars attached to the model truck:one nut first feed through the hole, tighten with second nut from inside.

I'll have to give that one a try. I've a decent iron, & can handle trying to fab a few things with soldering involved. I wish I had bigger better manly tools, but there isn't room in the garage for larg tools like welders, oxy/act torches & such.
