What motor/esc?

Well I'm waiting on some goodies from RC4WD for my next project.:bounce: I'm going to build a mixer and I need to know what motor and esc would be best to make the mixer drum rotate. I don't want it too fast or too slow. And where can I find a gear big enough to mount on the front of the drum, and the motor gear? (Bruder mixer body). And then maybe some chain. I'm wanting to hide the motor in something that looks like a pto for a more realistic look, so maybe a smaller diameter motor will work, instead of the stock 540, idk. :confused:

I don't know what scale you are going with but the helicopter main gear that I used on my crane might be in the ballpark for you mixer. And, I know you can get different sizes for the different model copters, and they are not that expensive.

This one fits a T Rex 500.

If you have a space under the frame or in the cab I would try and use a servo converted to continuous rotation and then make a fles shaft to run up to the gear and put a pinion on the end of the shaft.

Hey thanks a lot Jim.:) I was thinking of the servo idea, and it would take less room as far as another esc and motor.:rolleyes: BTW, it will be 1/14 scale.:D I am curious where you got the gear, I would like to take a look at their web site.

I've done a conversion on the bruder cement truck body:

I found the easiest way to drive the drum was to hide the motors in the water tank moulding:

Check out some of the robot parts suppliers for gear motors and other mechanical parts. These guys have an incredible range, they are in the UK but ship globally at good prices.

I have found that the Pololu micro metal geared motors worked well for me, small enough to hide and plenty of torque to drive the drum with a couple of kilos of load in it. I used 2x High Power (HP) in parallel:

but you could use something else if you are going for the external chain drive.

The same place also stocks mechanical parts like gears and chains, make sure you get a matching set so everything works OK...

It looks like I was going about this the wrong way.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Now this looks a lot simpler I might add.:D Now I have some different directions I can go. Thanx for the links, they are very helpful.
