Well I guess I might as well post this truck build since someone (Espeefan) keeps seeing it in photos of other projects.:p:D It will be a tri axle with SS front tires Stylin's pipes and sitting on Freddy's rails and painted black. Here are some pics of what I have so far.

What I started with.

Yes it is one of the toys like you would get at the truck stops. Funny thing though the bumper mounting holes bolt right to a king hauler mount and the holes in the side skirts match up perfectly with the Areomax skirt mounts.

Mike there are allso knock offs of the King hauler and the Areomax made by Amex toys not sure on the spelling. The King knock off is so close it will mount right on a king hauler and even has the holes molded into it for the light unit. I don't know who exactly makes the MACK body I have but I know they are hard to find. Pitbull here on the board has some.

Here are some pics of Pitbulls trucks.

Thanks Travis. Wow I am not really into T@#$% pink so we will call it Salmon, But the Salmon colored on is a nice looking truck.

Look at the little Colman Cooler!!!

I was just wondering where they came from. I drove a 1992 Mac Elite in '92 for Bud Meyer Truck Lines (No longer around) and I really think if I was to build one of them that would bring back all those feelings of shame I had while driving it... Not to mention my knees would start hurting again....LOL

They were not a very comfortable truck for a 300lbs 6'3" man...

not impossible - best to get one of those speed controls that can fit in your tanks. Then a nice sized lipo in the other tank, Reciever under the seats or under the dash, steering servo in the motor, waite - where we gonna hide the drive motor?????

Not hard to believe, CAT don't give anything away do they..:D:D

Here ya go Travis Norscot Cat Engine (http://www.3000toys.com/catalog/item_detail.aspx?itemfind=NORSCOT55139)

steering servo in the motor, waite - where we gonna hide the drive motor?????

Hey can ya at least let me try to see if something works before everyone goes and try's it.... Besides Travis has that darn CAT YELLOW flowing in his veins so there is no reason for him to take the engine apart..

Which really is a good thing..have you ever had to have work done at a Cat shop...:rolleyes:

looking at the lift axle pic,is the axle just going to float or will you

The axle will be lifted by a servo but the way I set up the lift it will float in the lowered position allowing the drives to stay on the ground and keep traction.

A little OCD you obviosly don't know me too well yet I repainted the back pannel on my green king 6 times and I am still not 100% happy but some times you have to use the 5ft rule. Look at it from 5ft and if some one is closer than that and picking it apart tell them to back the hec up.:D

Well my OCD got the best of me and the cab is back apart soaking in alcohol to be striped and painted for the third time. It took eight 32oz bottles to fill the bucket and cover the cab, seven new bottles and one I used to strip some red paint and all mixed together it all looks red but I am sure the black on the cab will take care of that.:D

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss185/brokenb4/Mack%20CH/100_0759.jpg

And you probably thought I was kidding till you seen the pic. I just was not happy with the paint :( and since there are not to many of these cabs I wanted it to be a close to perfect as I could get.

Travis

Heavy Metal
05-14-2011, 07:43 PM
Do what you gotta do Travis. I totally understand where you're coming from. ;)

I'm wondering what the deal is w/ the alcohol trick. I had my Aeromax (turned Sterling) cab submerged for like 3 or 4 days and the paint seemed a bit softer but nowhere near able to scrape or wire brush it off. Maybe Vince used a different kind of paint?? Not to hi-jack your thread but wondering what you think about that. I figured I would just sand it all smooth, prime it and paint over it. Guess we'll see how that goes.

Joe

fhhhstix
05-14-2011, 07:53 PM
You need a high alcohol content 90% or more. The highest I have found is 91% and Freddy uses 92%. The alcohol may not work on all Paints but so far it has worked well for me. I have tried the Easy Off oven cleaner twice and had no luck both times. Maybe he used a good auto paint with a lot of hardener so maybe if you sand it to break the surface the alcohol will be able to penetrate to the primer and lift the paint from underneath.

Travis

Heavy Metal
05-14-2011, 07:57 PM
10-4. That might explain it. Stuff I was using is 70%. Where might one find 90%+ locally?

Well after soaking in the alcohol overnight and an hour scrubbing with an old tooth brush this is what the cab looks like now. The alcohol doesn't touch the filler so I will need to sand it all smooth as some of the filler was added in between coats of primer and needs leveled out then I can start the paint process for the fourth time!:o:( Here are the pics.

yea what he said but for Pete's sake put some stainless screws on your stack brackets  :confused: otherwise excellent job

I will paint them silver if it will make you happy but no stainless. If the box was stainless I would but I have had real bad experiences mixing stainless and aluminum that is why I don't even keep stainless around.

Travis. Try never seize on the stainless screws into the aluminum. All of the screws and bolts on our fire trucks are coated with a similar material and the electrolysis is practically no existent now.
