Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

One more vacation day left. I've had a great time pretending to be retired the last couple weeks, seen lots, did lots. The RC show re invigorated me last week and although it's smoking hot out I'm still going RC park crazy!
No real plans or drawings, just started making a building I need to use for storing all the electronics and batteries to run my processing area. I made it bigger than needed because I'm planning on using the space to carry 3 or 4 radios when it's time to play and I bring this up from the basement.
The more I can carry in one trip the better!

Anyway, here is today's build :)

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

cheers Mario,
here's another idea, how about a cheap digital scale set up to check load weights.
Ive seen a few $10 bathroom scales that are begging to have the digital display ripped out, wires extended to a pole( sign) and job done.

By the way I would be dead keen for a play on your site, I will flick your my address and you can post the plane ticket .....:lol::lol:

This is why we have winter when you guys are playing in the sun, it feeds our imagination.
I intended to build an office building to put my screener and crusher controls in behind a fake roller door so I can adjust the 6 motors.
but first , I picked up a king hauler day cab in need of some love , comes with a home built tipper trailer ( not a bad job) and wedico 3 stage ram with a dx5 radio and batteries, dirt cheap.
so while the weather is freezing its time to start / finish a few projects.

keep the picts coming

cheers andy

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

Great minds think alike Andy!:p.
I had the same idea with a digital scale. I got the display out, extended wires so I could mount on a pole. Everything was fine until I tested the trucks on it. Most bathroom scales are rated up to 300lbs. And the trucks and trailer are not heavy enough to trigger the scale to register a weight.

So plan B is I found a digital food scale on Ebay which can handle up to 50lbs. I'm hoping its sensitive enough to trigger when I drive onto it. We will see:)

I added a few more details to the Cat Fuel station. Came up with a easy way to make what looks like gas nozzles and hose? Some paperclips , 16 gauge wire and shrink tubing. Simple and looks decent I think. :D
One more thing I might do. I've been staring at the Cat box I have on top of the roof. I think it needs to be turning! I've got a small motor out of a rotating beacon I can use to power it up.....next rainy day project.:)

Really like your compound Mario, are you leaving it outside throughout summer time then bringing it in for winter?

Thanks Andy. I started thinking about using mechanics wire and suddenly thought of a paperclip for some reason. :)

Thanks David. The loading docks are staying out year round. Cover them with tarps in the fall. The fuel station and what ever other building I make stays out rain or shine and will bring in for the winter.

I'm starting to re think my control room building with batteries and ESC's . Maybe it's better if I make a small mounting plate for the esc's and RX, leave the building outside and only bring the batt and electronics in and out of the house.

I tried lastnight with batteries, 4 radios in the building and its was as much fun as when I carry my 40lb excavator ( sorry, I think it weighed in at 36lbs ) up the basement stairs!
I don't like the carry big box every time I want to play idea anymore.:lol:

could always make a wharehouse that you can lock and if you plan on playing the next day you can leave toys out overnight

I've been eyeing up the shed I put a new roof on last year that's right next to the screener area. I just need to " fortify" it a little for peace of mind and yes, definitely would use for those friday night, Saturday rc sessions. :D

Thanks for the info. Yeah, even that one is a little too much to spend though.
im anxious to try out the food scale I got coming. Cost me 50 to my door but with my luck it won't work, I'll end up spending another 150-200 for a good one and once again going cheap at first will bite me in the a** once again.

Doing some quick fab and wiring tonight and got the control room wired and almost ready to go. Just need to punch a hole to run the harness through, make a harness for the conveyors and shaker. Should be up and running this weekend. :bounce::D

Holy cow Rob! You wouldn't believe how confused I was for a moment as I started watching the video:eek: I thought, that's our yard! WTF!
How can this be? A friend in BC is showing me a YouTube video of our work yard from just a couple days ago???
Then I came to my senses as the truck pulled away from the trailer and realized the trucker was taping from a Gopro. Sorry wasn't me in the scoop but as a matter of fact, im the one who rebuilt that one and its the last one I did about a year ago.
It's off to Montreal to be loaded onto a C130 airplane and flying up to a mine site in the arctic. I hope I didn't leave anything loose! That's an awful long way to go on a service call!:lol:

If the guy didn't edit the video, you would have seen me as I helped to shrink wrap the cab. While this was filming I was busy loading an excavator onto the Orange Kenworth you see drive by in the video.

Blows my mind you showing me this video! Makes me realize, cameras can be anywhere and are everywhere! Always behave in life and always do things right....ya never know who's watching! :cop:

Deutsch connectors, my favorite! Cat uses a whole lot of them.

Good eye Kent. Your right , not typical RC gear but perfect for outdoor, sealed and easy to connect and disconnect wiring.:)

I agree Neil, my favorite connector! One of the perks of doing rebuilds at work. All the original wiring throughout a machine is thrown in the garbage and replaced so I asked the boss if I could take some old connectors off the harness.

Speaking of harness, I had a great idea last night. My plan was to just lay the wires on the ground behind the the work area and around to the screen and conveyor. But then my outdoor brain kicked in and thought, between the squirrels, chipmunks and mice there's a pretty good chance they might nibble on the wires so to minimize that from happening I used a lenght of some plastic plumbing tubing. The soil is wet and soft so I was able to push it through the dirt and make an instantly buried conduit I guess you could say. :)
There is still exposed wire but atleast I can see if there's any eating going on.:D

I had forgotten to show a few pics of the fuel stop with the trucks. :)

I know the size of the cylinders aren't right as fuel tanks, they're concrete and we're just laying around in the backyard when we moved here. I found a more proper pail that will look the part a little better.:)
