Huh? Lou have you been drinking?lol

It's getting hard for me to add much more detail to the outside of the truck now. I can't say that the real truck didn't have things that I am missing but I don't have any more photos to work from so anything I add now will be a guess. I may have time to start on the interior before the show but I have two other projects in the works and a wedding less than a month away to prepare for so I'm in a time crunch....:jaw:

Hi Reg,
I sure wish i could make it to the show so i could see that in real. The added little details really set it apart. I hope the weather stays nice for you guys, and i'll be looking forward to some video of it.
Mike.

I'm sorry Mike, I could barely understand you with that sore throat you have...you better take 10 days off work so that you can rest.... Haha

Thanks very much and I wish you could make it to the show. It would be great to have you and your equipment there.

The fuel filters look nice Reg! Simple to make too. I like that. At first I was lost because I couldn't remember seeing any fuel tanks on the truck, but then I back tracked in this thread and saw it's behind the cab. Any of these trucks have regular round tanks under the cab?

Thanks Nate. The filter cans are made from a broken plastic coat hanger...Very simple and already white!

Some of the trucks had/have round tanks but very few. Most of the spur roads that these trucks drive on are not very forgiving so the under slung tanks wouldn't last long. Generally the steps are the first thing to go and the fuel tanks are right down near that height. This shared pic shows a truck with a tank on the side of the frame. Notice the bent steps...

Mind blowing & outstanding rig. Start to finish, so much detail & very true to scale.

Thanks very much Ap, but these things are never finished...are they?lol

Been tinkering the last two afternoons...Made up some of the interior pieces and some gadgetry. Maybe you should watch the video before looking at the pictures:confused:...The pictures will explain the video:confused:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s_6u...tJ-DusnO8Onw7A

It all started when I made the steering wheel....

http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps912c35cd.jpg

...and pretty much got stupid after that...

I decided that I had a micro servo sitting around with out a purpose...

http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psd35fe1e1.jpg
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psf968a4f6.jpg

and I needed to add some seats....

http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pse026f0d9.jpg

I tried to make "cheek" indents in the drivers seat but it's not very visible...like I said earlier...stupid
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psc0aba3fd.jpg

The seats aren't spring loaded to add effect or seem like air seats. The fact is that if the seats were bolted down tight I wouldn't be able to get the cab on and off without removing the air cleaners.

http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps58639b6c.jpg

I made up a little dash for it too but I didn't see the hot glue streamer by the steering wheel until I was looking at the pictures after assembly. I guess it's a mock cobb web now...

http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps327e7f71.jpg
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps14efc545.jpg
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psd3f57253.jpg

and finally a short walk around video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsdLz...tJ-DusnO8Onw7A

Thanks for lookin!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

Nice work with the extra details! The steering wheel is pretty cool. Now I guess you need a driver, so he can bounce up and down in the seat! I've seen guys use action figures with loose arms, so their hands can be on the steering wheel, and move, as it turns. Or no arms, really....just a long sleeved shift with some hands on the end of the sleeves, so there is no resistance to the steering wheel turning. Some cotton 'stuffing' so the sleeves look full and don't collapse. What do you say? :D

The micro servo for the steering is a great and simple set up. I may have to try that on a future build;)

If you decide to put a driver in the seat Reg, make sure he's got a bush jacket on and an old shiny silver logger hard hat:D. Lol

Maybe one of the guys on the forum who have 3D printers could make you a driver?

yea but you gotta make sure the guy has arm movement when steering ;)

Didn't you guys know? This truck is like a new Ford Focus...It parks itself!:p

All great ideas and it will probably get a wiggley armed driver in the fall.

Nice collection there Reg!
If it was me I should place logs in front of models, doesn't like having them smashed if you brake hard.
Have fun at show!

I would agree Dan, but if I load them the other way then the models will be exposed to 50-60mph winds while driving down the highway. I know the wind will blow out the windows so I'll have to take my chances that the logs are tied in securely and drive cautiously. I guess I need to invest in a canopy for the truck. The price of gas jumped to $1.45 per liter here yesterday so I was hoping to use our new car instead of the truck but there just isn't enough room for all the stuff in the car. Maybe smaller scale models would be better:confused:...Too late now:D:D:D.

Reg,
saw your post in Chris IH R190 build thread and did a quick search for the sound of the V12, seems to be plenty of files available. The last link is an actual KW truck. Hope this helps give the truck more life, just wish I was from The Land of the Giants, really would be cool to drive your model around. Terrific informative build.

Thank you very much!

I made a little time to drive the truck around and play with some GoPro angles today. Nothing too exciting but the camera wedged between the cab and water tank looking through the windows turned out pretty good.

Love it, I can see the next Truck TV show coming up(if you are into that sort of thing)...

Just need some challenging terrain(like the mountains of Peru) and crap roads...

No animation required though in yours, just make sure the Go Pro is secure and away you go..

:-)

Cheers,
AP

Awesome videos Reg. I especially love the cab view which shows how stable and solid the truck runs. The suspension view shows why:cool::D
You can tell its heavy by the lack of bouncing like I get with mine on rough terrain. Hard to make a video look scale when the truck is all over the place!

Enough dirt bike riding! Get back to building and making more videos eh!!:D:bounce:

Haha yeah the truck is heavy for sure. "Solid" is the polite way of saying it's fat:rolleyes:. It didn't bounce at all before I stiffened up the tires...of course they were almost squished flat with the empty truck at that point. I have a thought in mind for my next build and I'm in the process of deciding whether or not I should build it in 1/14 to sell or 1/10 to keep. I love the big scale but sometimes wish I had known it was odd-ball before I started...

Hey what's wrong with me riding mini bikes?...The scary part with that is it was my main hobby before I got involved with this...If I get to comfortable on the bikes I may decide that I miss it:eek:.

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

Well with all the lowboy builds going on around here and me having no project, I thought I should finally build my own. I bought enough tires to build one back in June so I only needed to visit the scrap yard today to get started. I don't plan on this being super detailed, just functional. I put about three hours in this afternoon and got a fair bit done. All the hard pieces are still on the list though so it will take a while to complete.
