Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Both the pump & telescope cyl in this trk have worked perfectly since day one.. even after virtually sitting the 1st six yrs, never a problem with air bubbles or loss of pressure. I rarely go up on the 3rd stage & the box is small enough that the hoist is rarely stressed much.
I had dual pumps with dual wdc telescopes on my end dump trl.. I had trouble with one of the telescopes, 2nd joint kept popping apart.. then I went to the Leimbach 5 stage telescope with dual pumps, the Leimbach usually hung up coming down, sticking on the last widest stage. Going up with a heaped box of dirt, no hesitation. Overall, the four wdc pumps I have been using for many yrs have never failed me with loss of pressure or leaking fluid. That's the one good item I can speak highly of from wdc. :D |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe, just another quick question. Do you have a part number for the Leimbach 5 stage cyl. Could not find any info on there web site.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Long since discontinued!
Scale Art makes a nice 4 stage telescope. And their mini pump is mighty fine too that fits inside a fuel tank. They changed their site since I was there last, my link to their hyds page no longer shows their hyd parts.. guess you'll have to contact them directly for script & pics of purchasing parts. http://scaleart.de/en/ |

Thanx for the assistance Ap.
How would I program that into the radio? I guess with one 2pos, either side is 1st or 3rd, then program the second 2pos for half the throw.. is that right? |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Yep that's it!
A little bit of "mixing" and you are away... I had it working well on my dx6... AP |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Do I need to "Y" harness the shift servo to make that mix work? ..cause I didn't get it to work with just the shift servo plugged into the gear channel.
A month ago I cooked the right track motor.. it sorta continued to work, well enough till another showed up last week & I put it in to get the tracks working smoothly together again.. .. then last night the left track stops! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/002-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/004-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/005-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/008-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/009-1.jpg The output shaft of the gearhead is bent too!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v150/protrker/007.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/010-1.jpg I sent Frank a mail this morning.. "NEED MORE PARTS!!!" :o |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Wow! You have really put some tourqe on the tracks! :)
Something special that made this happen? |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
hmmm who's been a "naughty" boy! :-)
Stress testing again! Back to the mix, on the gear channel, no Y harnesses required... just a bit of fiddling with the programming... Google 3pos switch for DX6i.... e.g. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=6317 Cheers, AP |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Wow. Never seen a gearmotor output shaft bent like that before and i've abused them badly at times. I only ever seem to grenade planetaries tho.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
A small rock found it's way atop & behind the idler, I have the track tension set pretty tight so I don't skip a track.. one action creates another reaction & shyt happens. :(
I haven't heard if Frank sent replacement parts yet.. normally I wouldn't have time this time of yr, but Mother Nature isn't cooperating again this yr with excessive moisture during Spring planting. I'm so saturated here, high water table, now I'm wishing I had planted more winter wheat last Fall. :( So today I tinker with my green GL to see what the clicking was about a month ago.. stripped the front pinion of the middle diff.. that's another new 1st! :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/004-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/003-3.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
So tonite's "fix it" was a new esc for the loader, the ol MTronics Viper Marine, the reverse went out of it.. Reverse never did work right with that esc, it was like it had to warm up before it would run smoothly, always worked fine in forward though.
I had a bunch of the Banebot 9amp esc's that worked great for adding to the Leimbach hyd pump motors, but now Robotmarketplace is out of stock on them with no eta. :( So I had this Novak Rooster sitting around.. it says on the box 6-7cell.. how long will it last on 10cells? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/001-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/002-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/004-4.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I was at a friends birthday party last night and I was showing pictures of my toys to a friend of ours... She started in about how she heard about this guy on the radio a while back that was digging in his basement with stuff just like it! I just laughed and said yeah thats Joe....;) Having been around her Dad's 1:1 stuff all her life she thought it was really cool and would be a lot of fun!
You're still famous Joe:cool:! Reg |

Thanx for the humorous story Reg.. your friend an avid CBC listener? That interview with Helen.. what'shername on the Current Affairs, she was putting me down throughtout.. she didn't get it that it was a hobby with many enthusiasts worldwide.
Finnished planting on Monday, then made a few movies with the 850 outside.. the GoPro looks good with natural light, this was 8:30pm, an hour before dark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDYmWbRRymM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GK70mzNZyg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjhmUYPYzrY |

Joe,

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I was sizing what was left of the wall this week & it's about a cubic yard or less to mine away yet.. start of the winter it was approx 4x5x10 which equals 200 cubic feet - 7.4 cubic yards .. so there's over 6cu yd piled around the basement to be hauled sometime this summer.. about double what I normally tackle.... too bad you didn't live closer Reg, I could do with some trk drivers. :D
You wouldn't guess it from this picture, but a few days prior it looked like December with six inches of heavy wet snow on Sunday. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/001-9.jpg I got a liner load of cattle last Friday from a good friend who renting some of my pasture this yr.. several of them are like dogs following me around the corral, stand right in front of me wanting a scratch! haha http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...012/001-10.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/005-8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/004-8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/014-5.jpg Tuesday was a nice warm day, dried up in front of house, so I emptied out this bin, about 30 loads worth! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/009-1.jpg I went up the stairs each time to look out the kitchen window for a 3D view to get all the loads piled tightly together. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/005-7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/007-4.jpg Hauled from a few other areas wed/thur night as well.. about 50 loads out there now.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/014-4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/017-4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/019-1.jpg |

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
hmmm so next is the equipment on the moon and sitting in your chair mining the ore
to smelt down for steel to build a moon base? i wonder if nasa thinks about the training it is going to take to do that and if some of our members will be the ones to do it ,like JOE here |

I love this whole concept and the pics are inspiring.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
The training must already be there Grady as there are video remote operators for underwater robotic vehicles, as I've seen it on Discovery for tree cutting and oil exploration. :)
Thank you for the kind compliments fellas, always appreciated. Still working at the basement wall a few hrs a week, digging at the wall from the basement floor. Maybe a half yard to mine away yet, then dig a trench for the posts. The trench needs to be 30 inches deep, beyond the reach of the 850, but I'll dig as much I can with it, providing I don't strike any major boulders. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGNaFIz0xCA&feature=plcp |

i am sure they have some of the training needed but just like when they started using the ROLanders they were looking for bodies that were doing it already as in the RC racers , and they asked around the forums if anyone knew how to control a plane with a computer and operator .in the 90's So do not think people are not interested in what we do even if it is a big company that uses our ideas to make big money IE robots for bomb removal came out of the battlebots ideas and the computer controlled vehicle races out west that were set up by a couple of companies and our government lol you could even start a company for the remote control digging industry they have them for cleaning out big tanks etc have fun |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thumbs are for rookies. :p
Oh I don't think I'll ever leave my rural setting for greener pastures elsewhere Grady.. although the media is still after me.. some program on TLC called My Crazy Obsession phoned a week ago from LA & a german tv program, similar to Urban Legends on Spike wanted to use my youtube videos for their programming. Something I did today was modify one of my ripper tooths, a much better angle for carving at the vertical wall. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/016-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/017-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/018-3.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
My crazy obsessions wanted you? Man they just dont get it do they? Their hobby is money, as ours is fun building and spending it haha The new ripper looks like it should work well!
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Oddly enough I got another call today from TLC; their restructuring their program to focus moreso on large collections & unique hobbies, a more postive atmosphere of enjoyable past times, rather than the wierd fetishes & what not of last season.
But their timing for filming my hobby (if I were to make an audition tape & have it approved) is way off, they'd want to come in late August - early September, in the midst of my harvest.. I told them no thanks, but I'll be watching to see what comes of their program this winter and maybe we'll talk next summer. The modded tooth is working fantastic. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Something I've been working at the last couple Sundays...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/001-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/002-6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/003-4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/004-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/005-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rker/006-3.jpg I just got to wire in an esc within the JD850, string a paired wire along the boom / stick, make a junction box for the female receptacles and solder on some leads to the motor... maybe Sunday I have a movie made. :D |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hi
Looks very good and well made as usual . Will be great to see the in action video. Thanks for posting. Regards Mark |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanx for the praise Mark.
Caught up to the green again yesterday and so I can enjoy another Sunday off (without pain this time lol)... made the necessary changes to the screener last night & shot some vid this morning. ;) The screener itself weighs in @7lbs , add 3 to 5lbs dirt into it and it takes 25 bar to barely lift with the stick out much. The dirt is rather damp in this vid, I'm sure it'd be a much more impressive showing in dry dirt or sand, quicker too! I'll shoot some of those vids after harvest. ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/006-9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/002-6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...012/003-10.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...012/004-11.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...012/005-10.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/008-8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/011-2.jpg This is about 3 5amp lipos worth of screened material... it'd likely be triple that amount with the flat vibra screen I normally use... but now this one easily portable. ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2012/013-5.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENov1...ature=youtu.be |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe glad to hear that your walking around vertical again instead of being horizontal. Screener looks like it works real good. Does it work constant speed or is it on an ESC?

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanx Rob. Me too. :)
I swapped out the Servonaut S20 I was using for the swing, installed a Sabertooth 2x12 & used the 2nd motor controller for the screener. Not knowing right off what rpm would be suitable for the screener, I started with a higher rpm gh motor & played with the tx's epa. The current gh motor is 40 rpm, still a little on the fast side @100%, got it dialed back to 60%. I'm having trouble with the Sabertooth remembering its previous calibrations for the swing speed (EPA) after turning the model off/on. I could go back to the Servonaut, and now with this 40rpm screener motor, use a battle switch to turn on/off. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe I'm having the same trouble with the Saber tooth in the FWD.. So this morning I sat down and read the instructions for the fortieth time and I guess it finally sunk in. If you read the line to calibrate and store it now make sense. Switch 5 on (up) switch 6 off (down). Turn on trans. set your center, high and low and then turn on (up) switch 6 to lock it in memory before powering down. I tried it and everything seems fine now, fingers crossed!!!
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Yeah, I think I was doing it backwards... 5/6 up, set epa's, then 6 down.
Thee old 50/50/90 rule :p :D |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I had some fun in the quarry today, working at cleaning up the last of the south wall.. soon I'll be digging the trench for the posts of the last part of the wooden crib wall.
