A couple of photos showing modifications to Tamiya flat bed trailer so I can load containers on to it by using winch on the truck.

Great truck, great vid, and I like the trailer idea as well.... you went out of the park with this one.. oil field trucks are some of the best youtube vids to watch and yours it right there with the real ones.....

T" don't take this the wrong way but! every oil field truck I ever saw had 2 operating front drive axles.
Reason being is the end loaded and dumped this from the back, so 1 the needed the weight up front.
2 once they were load they needed to distributed the weight as best as they could.
It's a great truck but for ac curacies sake you need a second drive axle just under the pillar and rear head ache board

gregg, I understand where you are coming from but there are a lot about with only one front drive axle, if I knew how to do it I would paste a pdf from CAMEX showing the one I loosely based mine on.

there are rig up beds and winches bed which come in texas ,wyoming, and a few more types of winch beds and there are gin pole beds , and winch and fifth wheel combinations, and all of these come in single and duel front axles and with powered and unpowered front axles with then there are single and duel
and triple rear axles and tag axles

lol and i do believe that there are a bunch more that i have never seen.
Most of the bed company are started because a hand gets tired of working with pieces of trash truck and beds that they are working with makes a new kind that works better and faster ,easier that the company buys and then orders two or three more and a new bed company is started

Thanks for those links, most of which I had not seen before.
Can't get mine to lift the front end like the one in the first video though.

When I first started looking round before building the model, I was amazed at how many varieties there were, took me a while to decide but the length of a tandem steer, tandem brive in 1:14 scale helped me to decide on the single steer , tandem drive version with a 28 foot bed. It nicely fits into the back of my car.

They definately come in all sizes, from Class 6 single rear end on up to off road only.
I looked at a new Kenworth C-500 last, year that was 10 ft wide, 410 inch wheel base tandem-tandem, 25 inch off road tire's. I could park my Mack on the bed and walk around it! It went to Oklahoma after the Conexpo/Conag show. Only $750,000.00.

Bet those 25 inch tyres looked mean!

Here is a photo of the winch, it uses a motor with a 100:1 gearbox to directly drive the drum

before I make a pair of manually operated winches to raise and lower the poles.

I also learnt why there is a pulley at the back end of the bed, gets a bit exciting without it! Guess if you forget to use it on a real truck , it gets a bit crazy and very expensive.

Photo taken by a friend last weekend, takes a bit of careful positioning to get container onto trailer but hopefully with practice all will be well.

Great looking truck! Now that you have done a single front axle bed truck though, I really think you need to do a twin steer (or if you prefer, tandem/tandem) bed truck. I live in BC so never see such trucks locally but I was in Alberta (in a town where the oil patch is big industry) for work last week and saw plenty of big bed trucks driving around town. After that, you should really build a twin steer picker. Camex is such a great site for inspiration.

This truck is awesome. I don't spend much time in thus section but every time I look at this thread I have to look at this build! I'm building a A.W.D king hauler and I hope it turns out half as good as your truck did
