Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
I was doing some experimenting late yesterday in an effort to make ladders resembling those on the 1:1. It would be very difficult to mount such small pieces individually so I thought I would machine them out of one piece. This is the first attempt...
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psiq74lgon.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psfajkgrn4.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pshdbymwub.jpg I decided that it might be worth a try to remove about half of the material holding the rungs together. I put the ladder back in the vice but at the end of my cut the cutter caught it... http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pspcajlqeh.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psohyo2hw4.jpg I guess I will be making a jig to hold them tight before I try this again... |
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
When you get a chance to check this out Brandon, would you mind letting me know what you think? If you like them do you want two at the front or one on all four corners?
|
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
Love the trailer, hate the ladder! LOL!! Well, only the bent ladder. Awesome work as always Reg. keep it up.
|
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
Hey Reg do you think you can add 3 ladders in total ? Two on the side walls of the trailer (driver side) one in the front and other in the rear. And one larger ladder at the nose of the trailer. Tell me if this makes sense ?

I got all of the ribs mounted and the front curved piece bent and in place today. It's taking a while now but everything is held in place separately with bolts underneath so it should make disassembling it for polishing easier when you get it. |
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
Smart man thinking ahead! Ya the side ladder looks great, real bummer it didn't make it.
|
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
I try but sometimes it hurts...
One sacrificial ladder isn't so bad. If I mess up another one though I quit!lol |
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
Finally getting back on track here! I've spent the last two days working away on this after being out of the shop for a bit. It is starting to come together now and I think I can see a really faint light up ahead although there is still a lot to do.lol
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psers3g2ho.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pssxhcusfc.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pszy7dulmo.jpg I made up some new side ladders that are slightly taller... and not bent.lol http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4aj9dsgy.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pskmg8s0xe.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psww3o2c1n.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psfquixoke.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psxlixoug7.jpg and hooked to my truck http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psrv3hpgsq.jpg |

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
You can get this suspension from rcbrmin as well a little cheaper. It is all metal which I like. Anodized aluminum and pretty. My main complaint with it is that you can not get the same axle spacing as Tamiya uses out of it. The airbags mount a little too far back so you have to spread things out. Not a huge deal but it also causes problems when you are trying to move the rear axle as far back as possible. I would have liked the axles to be a little further toward the rear on this but if I had made the rails to mount them back further then the tail pan of the trailer would hit before the box was up all of the way. I had to compromise there. They are very sturdy though unlike the plastic stuff and are sprung much stiffer than the Tamiya leaves.
It's looking good though hey Brandon? I will button up the front next and then figure out a way to mount the ribs underneath. I normally weld them in but since you are going to polish this everything takes a little more thought. Sometimes my brain hurts from it but it will be all over soon. |
Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
Great job Reg it looks real good keep up the good work. Ed

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer
Thanks Terry. Is yours up and running?
Thanks Neil. Here's a quick update on this one. Side boards are on and the ribs are attached underneath. It took nearly 5 hours just to make the little ribs and get them mounted up. It's finally on the right side of the hill though I think.:D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=165Zncetnvo http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psxkyb6ric.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psect76tbg.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psa3abb5hc.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...pszkwmdqbh.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psipyesnjx.jpg |
