Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Well right after my post, my brother informed me that he wants this truck!
He said to leave the light buckets the way they are,but wants to add a lift axle:eek:.He has looked at my trucks and decided to get into rc trucks himself, and begged me for this one. I have most of the parts for the lift axle, and the frame is long enough..... but I will have to use shorter tanks. Any way here are a few mock-up pics,I guess its going to be his truck now. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02489.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02491.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02492.jpg |
Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
 now I guess you want me to make another axle set pronto to match the other 3 :p :p:D

I'm sorry to bust your bubble but the axle on an A Model if the hood is adjusted right is right in the middle. Here is a pic of my buddy's 78 A model which I drove to this little truck show out side of Des Moines Ia last yr. http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/5555/dsc01146k.jpg http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7026/dsc01138g.jpg http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/1319/dsc01257p.jpg http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/43/dsc01141q.jpg Also thought since you were doing a red and white truck this might help with the matter.............. Here is a pic of an 81 that I took in Illinois last yr with 22.5 low pro on http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4941/dsc00479w.jpg http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/6667/dsc00481e.jpg The black A is owned by Robbie Spencer out of Pa and it is an 82 it got most of it's look from the prior owner Justin Lang. Have seen in person still a nice ride for sure. Good luck Wade |
Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth

Thank you for saying something. I don't have a way to measure a 1:1,but just eyeballing it looks like the stock King Hauler kit's front axle is to far back, and or the hood to short. This is not going to be perfect anyway, but the more I do the more I learn from all of you guys! Thank's:D |
Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
It's looking better and better! I finally have my Knight as a roller and have been undecided on what I want to do with the body. I may just try to copy you except with the sleeper.

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
You know, the garage is the only place in the house that I have that is mine. Once we had kids they took over most of it. When we move I hope to have a shop that will have a bathroom so I can have my own castle. We can always dream right?

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Very small update!
Since my brother wanted this truck,I decided to let him do the body work. He has built several models and they all look great, but the body work on this truck looked horrible....and long story short he gave up. Well it's back in my hands, and I decided to start over with a different body. Now I think I am going with a old rat rod look . Here is where I'm at... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02565.jpg |
Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Thanks for the comments guys!
I decided to paint the frame a semi gloss black for more of a work truck look. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02571.jpg I am leaning toward a faded, worn, weathered look like the pic below, but I change my mind alot.I just want to do something different! http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...an15/00681.jpg |

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Looks Great Troy. Are those monogram model kit steps?
Brian |
Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Troy you have a talent in making trucks look BAD. And this one is no exception! Steps look great. I wonder if it would be possible to duplicate them in resin? Then it would save the precious monogram parts.

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Looking sweet Troy...Like Brian said.....That would be Badazz with a rock bucket on there...:D:D

Ladies and gentlemen, here is where I'm at now!
I started sanding the fenders, and added the contour on the hood. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02603.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02604.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02608.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02609.jpghttp://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02611.jpg Hey Snowman here is how I cut my tank brackets! http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02610.jpg I am trying to decide whether or not I am going to put in the 3408 cat and radiator:rolleyes: http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5/DSC02613.jpg Thanks for looking! |

Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
No two ways about it, that cat's gotta go in!
Nice detail on the hood, and what's that lurking next to the KW? Intriguing... |
Re: Starting my daycab Kenworth
Troy, that Cat would look awesome, under the hood of my Wedico! You should sell it to me. :D But really, it would look nice under any truck hood, but with the King Hauler, I think it would take a little extra hood work because guys who cut the hood, so it can tilt up, end up having the fenders hit the air cleaners. So either you get stuck cutting the fenders or stretching the hood, but then again, your fender mods on the first cab you did might give you the clearance you need. Really though, with your skills, none of this would give you a challenge, I am sure.
I'm kind of curious how easy or hard it is to tighten up the front fender, like you did with the first cab. That's a great looking mod. It looks so good that I am tempted to get a KH again and try making it a W900 also. I really like that KW grill on there. That alone makes the truck look leaps and bounds better then any stock KH. The double round headlights, do another huge favor to the look, and finally, tightening up those fenders is the icing on the cake. As I said, I am tempted! So what was left of the cab you gave to your brother, and how did he destroy it? To me, it didn't look like it needed anything else done to it, to make it perfect. |
