Thanks guys!

Spuds - yes colors are spot on!

Woodhog - yep just the same - that cab was a liner for the day from Travis. It had other tis bits on it.

Big rigger - I'm workin on the deck playing and the rear fenders. Not into double humps and plain double overs look funny with the mud flap hangers?

- oh and I want to do a driveline upgrade :)

Hey izzy the daycab is badass.....I just really noticed your air cleaners, whose air cleaners are they? They look like pmd elbows but I'm not sure about the rest. They would be perfect for my kw build.

That beast sure is a very nice job , classic , Chris
Nice details , including that connector-plate for the trailer-connections
One thing ,
I would move that 5th wheel more forward , more realistic .
http://www.customrcmodels.com/Trucks/bf1209f0.jpg
( plus gives you a more aggressive turning when you backing up your trailers
and better weight distribution and better steering under load , but you know that anyways … )
that just pops in my eyes always right away , since I never liked that on the Tamiya chassis

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Air cleaners are IHBuilder and the knows are pm'd

I like moving that plate forward - hadn't yet noticed...

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Got to spend a little cash last month (screw up at work and they paid out out yearly bonus when it wasn't supposed to be:), I don't thinkit will ever haooen again :( ) and it finally arrived.

so I tore out the rear end.

- Oh and by the way. I was gettin tired of being hte slow guy in the fast lane at the Indy Shows so I turned down the output of hte 4:1 on the outrunner and fitted the helical cut pinion - thus I took out the Integy 3:1 Had to tilt the ttrans to get it to fit .... bit funny looking but it works (at leaset for now)....

so back to the rear end ..... some before pics.

Izzy I was wondering how you like those rear ends? I was thinking about getting them for quit a while for my Pete so I could lock the rears when it got hard going. I have a set of scale art but the look out of place with the tamiya scale. Ed

Nice job! Let us know how that rigid rc suspension works out. I have had my eye on it but had doubts about the plastic springs? I had emailed with questions but got a very confusing answer!

Nice! Those axles and the new suspension are going to look great under the frame. I'm looking forward to seeing them installed! I was curious myself, as to how it would fit and look. Those are some great parts.

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Thanks guys - had my eye on them ever since I spied it mid last year - then got to see a set up first hand ( suspension). Later tonight ill post some more pics.

The susp kit comes with an upper bracket that offers the center top pivot mount - so no drilling your axels.....

Also - the main leaf set comes with 2 metal leafs - I placed one at the bottom of the stack and then one above 2 plastic leaves - this offers a slip plate above the leafs. When I was assembling and testing I had noticed that the clevis above the axel that snares the leafs was catching on one of the leafs. The leaf was jsut hte right length to keep the axel from floating.

In all I really like the susp kit - top notch and well designed. very detailed and realistic. I trust these leafs - not sure hwat they can handle but they have good strength - they are also taperd in thickness towards the ends as well. Nice molded in curvature too.

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Do they feel stiffer then the stock? Anymore or less movement? They look good! but still trying to figure out if its worth it or not??

Izzy 04-22-2013 10:01 PM

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

A whole lot more movement - and it seems like the drive shaft (i have the rc4wd shorty shaft) doesn't seem to telescope at all......

the diffs did seems to have a little bit of gear mesh issue - didn't tkae em apart to investigate - I've had some stock axels that just seem to have a bad spot or so. figured I'd give em some time to run in...... for my driving time that's about 3 or 4 years though....

There's no provision for shocks - so the axels lift plenty high - just like std tamiya (if you use nylon nuts on the center spring keeper plate) But the twisting is phenominal - jsut as easy to lift just one wheel as it is to lift the whole axel. goo figure for a three point suspension.....

izzy thanks for the photo updates! I cant wait to see some more! Were you able to fix the issue of it hanging up? Looks like that would make some good suspension for the sterling dump i have been building for the last four years:p

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Izzy with these new parts your truck is taking on a very vocational kind of look, please, bring back the mud grips!

Espeefan 04-23-2013 02:53 PM

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Izzy, that suspension is something I've had my eye on too. First saw an older version on E-Bay, then found the updated version on their own website. I'm glad you picked it up. Any chance you could get us some photos of the axles articulating? Air ride is nice, but the simple walking beams can't be beat for off road travel!

Izzy 04-23-2013 09:13 PM

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

I can take a vid I suppose ...... Claus - Ive been thinking about those mud grips myself....

but I have a bit more to show in the pics I've already taken ..... anybody notice the cables coming from the diff's??????

works great! I only need 1/2 the throw of the 30mm stroke. I used the lever action since the spring tension the cable is pretty high.....

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

How well does the locking rears work? do they grind in or can you not lock on the go?

Espeefan 04-24-2013 12:39 AM

Re: Day Cab Work Truck by Izzy

Nice job with the locking differential actuator, Izzy. Just out of curiousity, how did you secure that Deans plug to the plate? I see three screws, but I don't know what they are threaded into, in order to hold the plug. I'm just looking for some ideas. I'd like to do the same for my own truck.

And I agree with Craig. Bring back the Crossforce tires!

That spring set up looks like a mix of Mack camelback with kw 8 bag rods. The camelback is hands down the best articulating spring set up ever made. This r/c kit just looks like a more complicated version of it.. Hope it performs as good as the real ones did..!

Nate here are some pics of the deans plug Izzy used. We found it at my local hobby shop but Horizon Hobbies stocks it. The base mount for the plug uses set screws with points on them to secure the plug in the base.

Hey everyone - sorry for such a delay - nasty long hours at work..... I hope it's worth it for them...

but I did get a chance to work on the pete - went down to Travis' and he built me a riser tray - I sit and think about it for hours and he just builds it .... go figure! But it inspired me to do some wiring......

before - with little room for a battery ...
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps1d6fa4c2.jpg

after - even with a sound system now :)

Claus - no pics of the aggressive tires yet - but I do like them - they look good.... :)
