Anytime Wayne. Come on up anytime.

Goose19 ( Allen) has been over a few weeks ago. He texted me today saying he wants to book play time every Thursday when he's in town hauling steel. :D:lol:

Like I said... I'm in build mode and have some more work done:)

My crank shaft set up is on! :)

I'd like to power it up right now but the wife went to bed and I'm sure this thing is gonna be noisy:eek::D.
Power up first thing in the morn!:bounce:

Small update but a big step in making the screener user friendly. Obviously using a ESC and radio was just a testing tool and today I built something more permanent ...... A rheostat and battery , all plug and play and mobile.:)

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

I have an idea, maybe place some springs for the screen to rest/slap on. Might quiet it down some and help with the vibration on rest of structure. Keep it going , I keep watching and keep getting new ideas for my own attempt. I'm thinking of making something similar but make ing a push deck so I can push material onto screen with the dozer. Great idea with the esc, now even the screening plant is remote control!!!! Love it!!!!

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

I was also gonna suggest springs as well to help with the vibration

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

Your right guys. The screen is a work in progress kind of build. Got a chance to run some dirt through it today and quickly realized I might upset the neighbours with all the noise!
You read my mind! Been trying to think of a way to make it less noisy! I was thinking a rubber or some type of soft surface between the deck and structure but the spring idea makes total sense ! The gears in my head are really turning now!

In the meantime, here is a vid of the very first material run across the screen RC style! My apologies for crappy hoe operator! It's been a month since I ran it and feel like I'm starting all over! It's My fault taking a vid without warming up first!:)

Although I switched to using a rheostat , I really like the radio and ESC set up. In the future With that 4ch radio I could remove all the centering springs and run the screen and a few conveyors!

It's been awhile since I did any digging in the pit so I went out last night with the excavator.
It's time to try and open up the south end of the pit but it's hard digging compared to the north end. I have a planned shape of how I want the pit to look but as in real scale the pit goes where the material is and you have no choice:cop:

Getting more comfy with the controls at times. Really have to concentrate and as soon as I lose focus a bit, movements are sloppy.:o:(

http://youtu.be/piQ3z9KJZw0

I have to apologize to all the operators I complained about for the last 20 yrs about not running the equipment properly or abusing the machine. In this video i have one of my moments of let's see what we can do. Last time did that, I snapped the boom on the loader!
In real scale I'd be fired for doing this for sure!
No more, it can't be good for the swing bearing and final drives!:mad:

I agree! I was thinking a shear but considering the size of the roots I'm running into, nothing RC size is gonna cut it. Ha ha , pardon the pun

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

Yesterday was beautiful weather and with the season winding down I took advantage and brought my entire construction fleet out into the backyard. Took me 8 trips up from the basement to get it all out there:eek:
so it's safe to say I'm getting plenty of exercise when I work with my RC's !:D
Then comes the sit down and relax part but before that I figured make a video. It's not exactly the process I follow. ( after dumping, the truck goes to the screener to catch the roots and debris) hauls that to a spot back by the loading dock as a scrap pile.

Anyway, you get the point. It's a whole lotta fun!!! :bounce:

I posted recently about a new speed controller for the screener. Installed and tested today. I love it, works great! :D
A little more tweaking with the screener deck, it's too light, I need to add a little weight to it. Forecast for tomorrow is nice so hoping to test run some dirt in the backyard.:bounce:

Hey all. An update on near the end of a season here at S&M construction. Massive amounts of leaves will be falling soon and will have to shutdown operations for the winter.:(
On a good note! I been tweaking and learning to run my plastic dozer. It ain't no Izzy built or Ralph's awesome D11 but for what it is, and what I made it. This thing rocks! I have a few more things I want to do and add like blade tip function and get rid of blade lift linkage slack.
Also came up with a homegrown version of endpoint adjustment...:D

I see why guys do this. It's not just about saving money because you can't afford the real thing, it's about seeing what you can make and how it may or may not perform.:D

Well I have my first signs of the season coming to an end.... It was 80 degrees on Sunday, I raked and swept up the entire RC park. Monday was 50 and rain with high winds.:(

Might be able to work that dozer when it snows. That's what I'm planning on, and getting the lights hooked up. And, and, and, well lots of planning on stuff for the hibernation months. It's been so dry around here that a lot of work has slowed and gone inside. Even the d11 ripper was only able to half penetrate the harden soil I got. I know you have roots, what's it like when dry? I've seen some folks have dedicated dirt pits with cushy premo diggin dirt that would make an earthworm jealous. It's funny as now I have a place for all those dead flower pots and half empty bags of potting soil my wife and mom make. And I don't mind as much when they excessively purchase small bags of potting mix. :). Those leaves might be a good idea to make a compost pile, since the backyard pond fill project of mine I've become more of a tree hugger,,( the more compost=the more loose diggin dirt= the easier digging= the more production I get done!! No ulterior motives there, I've become more environmental. Oh and found a place for that used hydro oil, spreading on the haul road!:) . Next time you run that dump truck get some videos of it dumping, or some photos, that is a sharp looking truck.

due to the size of my yard and the amount of fallout from the trees, I think 1/14th scale clean up will take forever! But now Im in a toy conversion groove so I've been staring at my old 1/6th scale newbright hummer.
Maybe a blade on the front or a tow behind rake or maybe a blower mounted to it!?
Still works , all stock drive but way back when I got it, I tore apart and did some detail painting on it. Looking at it now, I realize my eyes and hands used to be much stronger and steady!:(

Me too. Good one Ralph!

You were asking about the roots and the hoe. We'll both are kinda connected I think. Dry ground and roots are a nightmare! I have much better success after rainfall. Able to dig much better full heaping buckets, less dust and the roots break much easier when moist.
Problem is, some of them are the size of a oil pipeline!
The hoe is running great, nothing coming loose but I noticed something the other day.... I swear the swing bearing was tight and had zero play when new. Now I have some noticeable deflection in the house and a certain swing area makes sounds when swinging.
You have lots of hours on yours, how tight , or loose is yours? I'm wondering if all my rookie operating and slamming the back end down has done damage or if it's normal wear ?
Last time I checked , I don't recall seeing a spare parts swing bearing available!

Thanks for sharing comments and ideas guys.

Hey Mario, have you considered a pizza cutter for the roots, http://www.equipmentland.com/product...83324_zoom.jpg Clamps on a loader or trackhoe bucket. I have one for my Cat 305C CR, just for cutting large tree roots.
Cheers, Neil.

I don't know Neil. The roots I'm dealing with are pretty nasty and large. Trying to cut would require more patients than I have:p
I think a hyd shear from premacon would be best but beyond my pocket book.
Haven't given up hope yet though. I might try putting a pair of pruning shears on the end of the hoe.have a motor driving a acme thread to open and close. ? see what happens this winter.:)

Built by my dad in 1967. I played with it as a kid, forgot about it and rediscovered in my parents attic a few years after he passed away. I plan on restoring and upgrading to full RC but still caught up in the construction bizz right now.:)

42" long 4 3/4 wide. Not sure what the scale is. It's an actual ship that still sails the greatlakes to this day as far as I know.

Been on a RC break the last couple months. Change in season and crazy snowfall hasn't helped:(
Still gathering parts and stuff for a conveyor build I want to do next. thought I would share what I'm thinking for a drive system. The belt tension idea is something I saw Izzy use on one of his conveyors in the past and I think will work great. I'm using 2" wide rubber, 1/8 thick.
Still need to make the drive roller and idler rollers. Planning on 3-4 ft in length.

Flanged bearings and 1/4 D shaft

http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psd5b10af4.jpg

http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4db7c6bd.jpg

http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psad0d2fff.jpg

It's hard to explain or describe the stretch of this rubber? Maximum stretch of a 2ft length was less than 6" stretch. Lots of splice testing to do but I'm positive I can make this stuff work.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!

A better idea that I came up with last Spring was car tire tubes, cut the width of the belt from the outside/middle of the circumference for an endless loop belt - no splices. :D Stretched to fit - no adjustable slides to mess with either.

All the tire tubes I found in the junk pile at the tire repair shop in town (freebies :D), all tubes had mold lines on them that I followed, cutting the rubber with scissors with great accuracy in width. ;)

A few conveyers is on my 'to-do list' too this winter. :)

I made this 12" conveyor last winter, the belt is a tire tube meant for a small front tire on a garden tractor.
