There aren't many details missing now, Reg, at least not that I can see! Wipers, stack rain caps, window trim, valve handles, grab handles, a chrome horn.... If anything is missing, I can't tell. When you add all the important details that everyone is familiar with, they just assume all the other details are there too. It's looking really nice. Hope you had a great birthday!

Thanks for the link Neil. I'll have to contact one of the outfits making the sound modules and see what they need to make it work.

Thanks Nate, B-day was pretty quiet but that's OK. Getting too old to party anyway!lol

The details are almost finished unless I can come up with pictures from a different angle that show something I've missed. Hopefully the decals will turn out close to the originals and I will be a happy guy. Can't wait for the show in Duncan BC...If only I had an era correct cable log loader....Hmmmm

Reg

A BIG well done Reg & I hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of it.
Tim

Thanks very much Tim! If you ever plan a trip to the west coast of Canada, let me know! I would be happy to let you take it for a spin...As far as the hours of enjoyment out of it goes, I already have! The build and seeing it come to life is what makes it enjoyable for me. That and genuine comments like yours. A BIG THANKSto every everyone that has followed along with me on this one!

This morning I spent a while cutting out 54 circles and the cutting out the centers...I made a tool out of a nail, piece of wood, razor blade, a screw and a thumb tack. Once I cut out the circles I made another tool to cut out the centers. It took about 6-8 turns to make each cut so that's about 650-800 turns. My wrist is sore now HAHA. I then glued three pieces together for each tire. A long process but the end result is great! The truck and trailer now support a large amount of weight with little squat in the tires yet they still flex when you drive over a rock. Of course when all of this was done I had to take her out for a test:D. This is also the first time I have loaded her outside since shimming the diffs. Reg is happy happy now!

Many pics.....:jaw: and of course video...http://youtu.be/ICljl6usiZo http://youtu.be/eyNYXqC6q8E

look's great Reg, I tried cutting foam with hole saw's, well AAAARG!
Have you considered putting your cutter in a drill?
Yes that truck would sound good with a v-12!
Cheer's, Neil.

Haha yeah Neil I considered putting it in the mill with a piece of plywood on the table but then I decided that I have to go back to work and need all of my fingers...lol Doing it by hand was slow but safe and it's all done now.

A stamp cutter made from steel shaft in the lathe, one whack of the hammer! :D

Fully loaded, what's the estimated gvw?

Your foam inserts, do you think tires would carry 60+lbs?

I was thinking along a similar line Joe, only I was thinking about making a cutter for the press. You could cut both circles at once that way I'm sure, I just didn't want to spend half a day making a tool.

The truck and trailer are 47lbs and I'm guessing the load is another 40-50lbs. Some of the logs weigh nearly nothing and a couple are probably 6-8lbs minimum(they haven't dried much in the BC liquid sunshine). When I finished changing the foams in the trailer I pushed down on it really hard and there wasn't much bulge in the tires but there is 8 of them so there's a lot of surface area. They are much stiffer than what I used in the Euc though.

When are you coming out here Joe?

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

Perhaps if you had made the tool, then you could have had a small sideline business punching out a few thousand of these foam circles. :D

Don't know, weather is not cooperating to get my work done as soon as I had hoped. :(

RCP57 06-14-2013 10:27 AM

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway

I guess that's a possibility. The only trouble I see would be trying to make foams for every different size tire(lot of tooling).

Too bad about the weather, I guess if it holds you up too long then you won't make it to the coast?...or maybe you'll be out in July for the show?:D

Hmmm. It's some sort of packaging foam that I got from the local Princess Auto. They sometimes have it in laminated sheets two layers thick but they only had the single layer stuff the other day. We use it on the fish boat for ice blankets to keep the ice cold for longer but it turns out that it makes good tire foams for heavy vehicles. I'm gonna buy some more in case they never have it again. Wonder what it would cost to ship some to you and what customs would say?

Reg

Reg you have done a great job with the truck and trailer the only thing you need is a little smoke coming out the stacks that is the only thing missing. Keep up the good work and have a good day today and a better one tomorrow. Ed

Thanks ED, I think noise and smoke may be winter projects if funds allow.
