20 year's ago, there used to be single shank ripper's, that slipped in a "pocket" welded to the back of the bucket, removable and usable. Have'nt seen any for a while.

Not sure Greg.. stock bucket, lead trl is 5 buckets & pup is 7 buckets.. I crushed the last of it last night, next time around I'll try loading a pail with 12 scoops and weight it. ;)

Alot of interesting designs there Neil, it'd be great to get those style of teeth in scale form.

I tried my narrow bucket today, didn't work as well as I hoped... more experimenting.. two teeth on the edges or just one in the middle (too bad I welded them in :()

I carved an entry ramp into the wall and the 850 climbed back onto the wall itself. :cool:

Way to go Joe:D:D:D I like the coupler! I have to put up with a manual one on my Cat 305CCR. I seldomly use the ripper, more than 5 minute's at a time.

I counted 17 attachment's for both the hoe and skidsteer today, still don't have enough:eek:LOL!

Kalle, I'm counting to myself (1001, 1002..), maybe I'm counting too fast. :confused:

Not sure if it is FB, it's a bit of a knack to line up just right and the ripper has no mass or weight to it and will tip over easy.. I usually toss that on by hand. :D

I used my narrow bucket quite a bit last night Neil, works a little better for carving against the wall than the stock bucket, but I still can't help much with that V shape off the wall.. gotta make some side cutters next! Is there a rule of thumb at what degree they come off the side or anything else?

They might work but an 1/8 in plate bolted flat to the bucket with the edge ground to a 60 deg angle would be closer to scale.

Hey Joe, the side cutter's that I use a little bit flatter than your's, but go for it and have fun! As for teeth, I'm still scratching my head, I wonder if a split shank could be soft soldered on? Single sided teeth, silver solder may hold better than soft solder. I'm still trying to figure out something tougher than key stock for making teeth? Just like Karate Kid, torch on-torch off, LOL. Need more idea's, Just ask, & I'll try to help.

Hey Joe, picture's of the sidecutter's and one of the bucket's that I modified,
The outside shank's are out too far. And the sidecutter's won't work because of it. I'll know better, next time I change teeth and shank's on a trackhoe bucket. I remove alot of concrete, so I upgraded to bigger backhoe shank's.
Yes Travis, those are Cat DRS 230 series shank's-420 backhoe.

My side cutters are sorta working to trim the side of the wall, but would have worked better as I was digging the base, I have more hyd power than swing & the hoe isn't heavy enough to take side loads.

Perhaps I'll give a go with your 1/8 plate idea Travy on my stock bucket for cutting side walls better. ;)

I put the KH dump work bench today after a shooting a movie with the gopro on it, the steering was becoming more erractic than ever & that Polk radio is super glitchy too. The KH dump trk was the last trk on the Polk system.. those radios are going into the burning barrel! :mad:

Much to my surprise after taking apart the KH front end, a whole bunch plastic fell out! :eek:

The GWS servo is original to the trk when I built in 1996! Although I didn't really use it until 2006 when I started backfilling the east wall.. but still, broke the top off the servo!!! I put a HiTec 645 in there now. :)

With the DX6 radio I only have two 2pos switches, so it's 2nd & 3rd only, till my Robot Marketplace order shows up in a couple wks with a DX7 radio. :(

Joe the DX8 is being offered right now with the 8 ch receiver and two extra 6ch receivers for free but if you have already ordered the DX7 I guess it is a little late for that.

I will try and get you some good pics this week of a couple different buckets with side cutters.

Hey Joe, even the full size hoe's can have problem's with side cutter's. You may try something shaped more like a single tooth in place of them. Or try sharpening them like a wood chisel, might be a tad "dull". I've seen boom's break, from being sideloaded.

With the vee bucket's, they stand them up 90' to the dirt to cut level or square, raking motion. Would that help with shaping the wall?
6 year's out of a servo, is that a new record for rc trucking?, in an open pit mining situation! Scale wise that truck has probably moved 250,000 scale cubic yard's!!!!!

Not really Neil. I've been using a pic axe to trim a 90° cut right next to the wall as I cut each layer. This last cut is down to floor level now, so I'll be able to face the wall directly to trim it straight down.

I intend to dig the holes for the posts with the 850, make a 5" width trench for 8 feet length along the floor, as deep as the 850 can reach. I usually put the 10' length 4x4 posts 30" into the ground.. I'll have to measure what the 850 can do.

nothing wrong with those side cutters Joe . They kind of look like the modified 1's on the 30 " bckt on the 307 cat I had . No pics though :( . they worked real well ;) It's hard to get a 90 * wall when your not digging parallel to the cut with the bckt .

Neil , I got 416 shanks on my 303CR ;) I never liked those bolt ons :confused: I weld the outer 2 on a slight angle outward to help with the resistance in digging a trench .

Hey Steve, yes I bolt the teeth on, tired of breaking the "DOH-nut" pin retainer's, has been working well for me. NO MORE SMASHED FINGER'S:D:D:D No more wimpy teeth:eek::eek::eek:. Cat people can't understand why we upgrade our bucket's:mad::mad::mad:.

Joe, I see a Wedico pump under the dump truck. Just wondering if you've any issues with it. Going to use two pumps for the 789, one for each cylinder with one common oil tank.
By the video it looks to work very well.
