Don't hesitate to ask questions about your tig, I have welded alum tig for years professionally. Willing to teach and even make the trip out to help if you need.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Hi joe-looks like you are well on the way to having a really nice set-up but I am a bit confused. Maybe you have covered this already but could you explain this. The building that they just framed in. Is that an indoor place for you to dig or is this where the tunnel will start or just another building? Just curious but everything is looking good!! I like the picture of the D9 sitting next to the other dozer. That shows just how big the 9 is. Also, did you ever find anything that would pull the D9 scraper?

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
hi joe got a question for you have you everthought of keeping a step counter to see how many steps you take diggin the basement out hehe
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
The clerk pointed out the 165 1st, I asked if it came with the foot pedal, no, so the clerk put me on to the 180... you got a DVD? hmmm
I may take you up on that Shawn, we'll see where I'm at in the new year. Thank you for the offer. Tom, the lean-to building came about specifically for the tunnelling out from my basement. There'll be a narrow stairway that I'll walk up, but I would also have a dirt road to the side of the stairs for the machinery to drive out, the models are getting bigger & heavier all the time and my back is getting weaker to carry them. lol If I remember right, the math for 10 degree slope was 6 foot length for each 1foot vertical; the lean-to is not long enough for 10 degrees. In 2005 the ramp coming out of my basement was 22L to rise 6H & that worked out to 17 degrees. Tracked equip can climb that easy enough, wheeled equip will struggle. The lean-to will give me added storage as well. No, the 10th scale pan is too heavy for the 4206 to drawbar pull the pan empty in the dirt! It would pull it empty on the cement floor, sorta. The tires on the pan I think are made from delrin, a rubber tire might make a world of difference, but that pan is freaking heavy, probably something close to 50lbs. A step counter? I could just haul the dirt straight from the walls/floor to outside. But all the other activities of screen it/crush it/screen it again/crush again was a means of fining up the dirt as much as possible when I was using a 4" width conveyer to elevate the dirt back in 06 to 10, the finer the dirt, the less that rolled back... now the extra steps is just to extend the fun as long as possible. If it ever gets to be that all have to do is scoop & pile the same dirt from one corner to the next, then I'll probably quit the hobby. This new workshop just gave me 5 more yrs of meaningful dirt work to do; dig a tunnel, hauling dirt into the back room & building up around the outside of the building. My playground has to be in a temperature controlled environment b/c I have virtually zero free time in the warm sunshine. ;) |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Thanks joe-I thought that might be for the tunnel but I couldn't remember.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Last Saturday, the last warm sunny day probably for this yr, I had to crawl under my roadway to get in the well to turn off the water valve that goes outside to the barnyard so I could then attach an air compressor to blow out the lines. I was nearly on my belly to get through there... time to dig 'er out!
18" summer rainfall, the water soaks bad in this corner, I didn't have any standing water around, but it's noticeably moist... which also makes for nice digging. To the left of the pic it gets quite a bit dryer so I may have to soak some of that dirt to soften it up. So with the dirt being moist, I have to haul the lumps over by the furnace to dry out before putting through the crusher. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pse3c102c1.jpg I prepped the area over the crusher beforehand... had to raise up the turnbuckle on the upper roadway 5" so the trk/bd trl can pass underneath. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps26b4963f.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pse783cabf.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps38291c81.jpg Took a test run with an empty trk/trl to check clearances and... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2b4ee294.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc700e193.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc586cff3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps7a069a5b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2a57ef6c.jpg ...roadway collapse!!!   I just weighed the 4206 now, it's 25lbs. The front tires barely decended & the roadway dropped!!! Less than 2 seconds & I caught the 4206 before it could hit the ground, but the hanging 4206 DESTROYED my bd trl. :( I think it was March 2005 that that bd trl went into service... it's hauled a mega amount of dirt the last decade. I hope I can glue it all back together straight. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Did your scale art loader have any damage?
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Wow makes ya want to cry
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Oh man that sucks!!! It's been a concern of mine, whenever working on these if I were to bump them or accidentally knock/drop one to the floor. The weight of them would surly do some damage!! Well like you said, it's been a well used machine :). Just a couple more war wounds once she is back together. That's the way I like em anyway, scratched and dented,, shows good use and lots of fun!!

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Joe, that really stinks. I hope that the repairs are easier than they first appear.
I dont want to derail your thread, but do you have any information on the LED lights that you had installed in your shop. I am going to be completing my shop in the basement this winter and have been stressing the lighting. I hate working in a dim shop or one that has a lot of shadows. Those lights look really nice. Thanks Patrick |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
my condolences Joe! nearly a worst nightmare there!

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
FB, called my electrician and if his memory serves him correctly, this is what they are:
Sylvania led replacement bulb 32watt. The Scale Art loader is fine, didn't fall that far. Got a new floor glued back in place on the bd trl today, it'll be back in service soon. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psd3fc23d4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc06eec25.jpg I finished digging a deeper entry into my well, I can walk through on my ankles now. ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps30c9a2c1.jpg Got a big pile of semi-wet dirt to screen, get rid of the fines so the lumps dry faster. Barely got started at that & the screener motor piled up! a bunch of spur gears disintegrated... I got spare parts & repaired that in short order today. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps00dc18ab.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps3fe44ab6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psb8120555.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psa5e57f0f.jpg Tomorrow finally came & I built my front room workbench over the wkend, it's 47 inches tall. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psd0909523.jpg I'm kinda sorta thinking about covering the top with 1/4" plate steel with a layer of rubber matting underneath to dull the sound. It's a piece of 1/4" plate in this picture. And that vise, I bought for the farm shop awhile ago, then at an auction a yr ago I picked up a welding table with 3 vises on it. I'm glad I hung on to it cuase this vise is big enough that I have been using it the last couple hrs without it bolted down & it doesn't moved while cut out metal. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps849aa215.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps092fe10b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2df1990e.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps22587b50.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2ba8c389.jpg I got this 70amp mig about 10yrs ago, set it up with 023 wire for my hobby, kept in my machinery shed south of my house, too dark in there to use it, I'll make good use of it now. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pscefd3503.jpg I got these goodies from Princess Auto, gotta go rent a 10' ladder to hang them from the rafters, one in front room, the other in middle room. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps22f4406f.jpg I'm just starting to get in the groove of enjoying my workshop the last week, toasty warm in there while -20's & windy outside, no drafts inside. :) But now the weather is warming up tomorrow & I gotta go trucking for the rest of the week. :( |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Thanks Joe, I will look into those. Like you I cant wait to have an organized functional workshop where it is easy to be productive.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
wow Joe you sure not have any grass growing under your feet. congrats on the shop you will find it is so nice. you will love your miller i got a 185 but the 180 replace it. i used one for 3 year to weld AL for a living so i got one for home and have never look back. if you need and info i just a phone call away.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Well this made me realize I have another project to do, I almost forgot I need to make a sifting machine of some sort. :)

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Here's what I've been tinkering with lately, a bit more tweaking to do with it yet and then tear it all apart to paint 'er up. ;)
Not a whole lot of blade travel with this Firgelli actuator, only lifts maybe 1/2 inch above/below level... seriously considering gutting the ol' Stahl dozer for it's hyds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii1b...ature=youtu.be |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Thanks Joe, nice to see what it was capable of in your pile.
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Strong little Dozer Joe, glad your happy with it.
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
The more I use it, the more I like it! It's a great bit of kit! Well done on the engineering Izzy.
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
I had a goodie bag come from Fumotec that took like 3wks to finally get here last Friday (must've ended up on the bottom of the pile at Customs), so I've been working on the excavator the last week... currently making a new engine cover & counterweight b/c it's not gonna be Komatsu brand.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pse1c1c310.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psd66df835.jpg Got this accessory for the above hoe, it shipped last week & I got it today! (must've have landed on top of the pile @Customs, but judging the condition of the box, it looks like it was on the bottom, contents are fine) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psffb929fc.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psb59d774e.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps4c30d6eb.jpg My lean-to got tinned last week. YAAAY I've got no door access it though  didn't want to cut any holes in my existing shop, create a bunch drafts. Do that next summer, along with the spray foam insulation, lights & some concrete work. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps00e42c20.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps0da87c2b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8d71efe3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps0d6836c3.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Nice work Joe, I'm looking forward to see what that breaker can do, what's the maximum pressure it can handle?
Can you place it next to the stick on your 870 for size reference? |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Hey Joe
Things are really moving alone at your place. ( New equipment / buildings ) Great to see ! ! I think you should keep the electric's on your new dozer regarding the blade operation, if it works, keep it simple. Is it possible to get firgelli's with more throw ? Greg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
So I guess I need to pour a small concrete slab for next years show??????.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Sorry Kalle, I keep forgetting to get that pic... not too much longer & the 450 will be in the pit alongside the 850. ;)
The limited blade movement is a bit of a hurdle Greg, I'm not sure if there'd be enough room for a 50mm stroke Firgelli... I'll just keep using keep using it like it is for now. ;) Plasterboard would make for a better show Shawn, demolishing a small building... ugh ugh ugh I was in the city last week for xmas, a trip to a hobbyshop to get me some brass sheet... I'm in disbelief that it took me all day to make this & it's still not perfect... if I wasn't so lazy I'd throw it trash & start again. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psb50ba91c.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psaa48089e.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps40dca277.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps456f4ef4.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Have some scrap hoard hanging around, a building it is.
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Looking good Joe, you need more projects, to much open space on that work bench!:p:p
At least I didn't build a building with no doors or windows:p:p:lol::lol::lol::lol: |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Stuff is looking good joe, those tanks are little buggers hu? I popped the seams on mine twice checking for leaks,a little too much air pressure and a couple swear words later I finally just submerged it and lung pressure worked fine!!
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
i thought the no doors or windows was the plan because he was building it so he had somewhere to tunnel to with all his toys!
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Grousser differences?
Good picture of the hoe makes me ask - what are the design intentions between a triple pad vs. Single or double? I'm sure it must have something to do with traction and flotation. Is it effective in our scales or more for looks? Wish my bench have that much space on it! Jim |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
No doors or windows in the lean-to yet. I intend to take out an existing window from rear of main building, put a door in its place & move the window onto the east wall of lean-to. I didn't do it now b/c the main building is sealed (no drafts) for the winter.
Not too bad RW, once I got all the pieces clamped in place & got busy soldering. The piece that the hose fittings screw into, that piece tilted upward somewhat, would have been better if tilted down that wee bit, with the hoses in it lifts the front of the tank a bit... I didn't pressure test, I got all seams with plenty of solder... guess I'll find out when I put oil in it. Grousers: one bar for dozers = great traction. 3 bars on this excavator, that's what they usually look like & it's for floatation. The model is heavy, I hope it doesn't slide around. I've been busy fixing old equip the last couple days... left my camera out in the shop... fix ol' whitey's transmission - an aluminum gear in the top shaft in the middle had nearly worn smooth, good reason for it to be skipping in 2nd gear. SA loader replacing a bunch of bent track pins & re-lubricating the tracks. Stahl wheel loader, bucket cyl mount on the loader body need to make a new one. Green 6wd dump trk, putting new drive motors in.... and a few other things. It's been great enjoyment the last week working out in the shop while it's -30's & storming. Toasty in there & plenty of space to work at different things. :) |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Yea we are having what you would call a warm spell, next few days down into single digits. I really hope I can stay inside:). When we get real cold I usually get more work, freeze up and such, so hopefully none of that. Basically the more miserable it gets the more work I have:(. Really makes that time in the toasty new shop enjoyable for ya joe!!
I know you have had a few order from premacon, I had an order on the 11 of dec, haven't got it yet, curious if that is the norm on occasion? Figure it's sitting on the bottom of customs pile like you said before. If you get into tearing apart that adt make sure to post some pics, I'm planning on building on of them. I'll have to take a few days and back pedal through your library of posts :). |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
It's a 30mph sw wind today making it a sob just to get out the door! It'll be nice when that tunnel is done. :)
I have only had one order from Premacon in my life, I was told it would be March before the hammer would be available for shipment, then within 10days of placing order I got an email confirmation that it had shipped... somebody else must have cancelled. But yeah, about 8dys later it was in my hands. An order from Fumotec was close to 3wks to get it. Right around xmas is a bad time to order anything from anywhere! And ordering from the USA is slow all year long, might be a week or might be a month, I don't know why... and shipping cost from USA is more than double than what it is from Europe. Go figure?! So I (mouth) pressure tested my tank today, found a leak about the upper middle (resolder) & fitting on top needed a different sealant used. Waiting for that to dry before testing again. The Stahl adt is working fine, might start the Fumotec adt in a few weeks. RW, your occupation is general handyman for home repair? |

I am not surprised that your order has not been received yet, especially if you haven't recieved any confirmation that it has shipped. I am waiting on an order at the moment which was placed on the 3rd of December... I know mine hasn't shipped, I have a confirmation that it should ship next week(received on the 19th of December). Frankly I will be pleasantly surprised if mine ships next week... If it doesn't it won't be the end of the world... Cheers, Andrew p. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCO
Got shipping confirmation from 16th, (acceptance) then passed sort facility in Germany on 30th, now in jersey as of a couple days ago. Dhl was original shipper but looks to be pased of to usps. I've received other orders from them but delivered to door by dhl. Customs and that time of year I guess, not upset as I'm still amazed at the logistics of any shipping company more so just excited for the guts of the excavator.
Yea joe when you start the fumotec adt be sure to post a bunch of pics, mainly on frame and articulation joint :). I have a small business, development and leasing. I do everything from repairing a shingle to grading roads. Manufactured home community of 112 units and expanding another 90 sometime soon. More involved with the infrastructure than the handyman stuff. Everything has become schooled and specialized, hvac, contractor license, legally it is becoming a pain in the *** to install something so simple as a ceiling fan. I've got my hands full in summer between property maintenance , concrete work, water lines, sewer lines , site work ect. Yea I do everything but don't know anything :) lol!! |
