Very nice! A custom heavy haul truck is always my favorite! Are you going to eventually put alu tanks, steps, ect? Lookin good:D

Re: Bob's Hauler

I probably will put ali tanks on when funds allow. The kit ones sit a bit high for my tastes, but the previous ali ones i got from Russ sit just right.

Re: Bob's Hauler

Nice looking chassis.

Only thing I would change if you want to get the scale look more right is to move the fifth wheel to above(or just slightly in front of) the middle drive axle. That is where it is mounted on the 1:1 version to get the proper weight transfer to the steering axle. I have yet to see a scale build where the fifth wheel position is correct so don't take this as criticism.

In defence of keeping farther back on a scale model, being as it would be very difficult to make a fully self equalizing rear suspension, it may work to your advantage as far as maneuverability goes as it will allow the front drive axle to skid sideways when turning.

Re: Bob's Hauler

Thanks for the tip Porky, I dont really want to drill new holes for the 5th wheel plate and leave open holes on the rails, but i've shifted the 5th wheel forwards as far as it will go.

I've done some puttying and sanding over the last few days, found I had to add a bit of styrene to the front of the hood to extend the inwards angle to match the grille thats going on it. Got all the little scratches etc smoothed over, and she's primed and ready for paint!

This weekend it will get a few coats of gloss white. Being summer it will cure fast too!

Its then getting a silver/red stripe pattern on the side. Still deciding on the exact shape, but should have the basics done in a few days.

Progress!

Still a thousand and one things to do. The bumper is slightly crooked, needs headlights and breathers. Have a headache rack for it, and need to cut the main driveshaft to the right length. Still deciding whether to do roof lights or not, and i'm sue i'll find other things to do. Not my best paint work, but it'll do if you dont look to closely :P

Sharp looking graphics, that's for sure! From the front, it looks all business!

Re: Bob's Hauler

Be better once it has headlights, breathers, and the headache rack installed.

Plus some other little bits and pieces.

Not bad for a "leftovers" build!

Re: Bob's Hauler

I'm still waiting on the breathers and ESC to arrive, but besides that and maybe a few decals, she's done!

And with extended flatbed trailer. I had a set of wood leftover from another flatbed, so cut the extras to the right length, and staggered them with full length planks. Still needs a final sanding to smooth it off nicely. Considering staining the wood with a red mahogany or something to sort of vaguely match the red truck.
