Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
This is Beautiful. If mine looks even half as good once its built I'll be happy

Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Thanks! I'm still working on it, some news soon (well... I hope ;)). I also work on a dumper project...

Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Hi everyone!
Here's a quick preview of my next upgrades! Still need paint and polishing! http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0002-1.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0001-1.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0010-1.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0010_1.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC_0019.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0003-1.jpg There was no works on the truck since a long time because I made big change in my workplace and got some new equipment :D. Now, I only need time  But I still follow your threads ;) Gaetan |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Nice!.....I love that rear lamp bar.

Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Thanks Troy!
Here's the 1:1 I tried to replicate ;) http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0015_1.jpg Gaetan |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Excellent job my friend, i'm loving the rear light's and the step/box, and the air tanks...very good craftsmanship.:D:D:D
Can't wait to see more.;) Big John |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
very nice! looks real good like the 1:1 truck!
|
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Thanks guys! I'm also working on new fuel tanks and wheels... But it's more complicated for me and and it could take some times... Not always easy to learn at my age ;) but still fun!

Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Hi folks,
There's my first attempt to make my trucks wheels :D It still a prototype and need many rectifications, mostly on finishing, but all in all I'm satisfied of that first step. The "axle" is only a machining aid ;) http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0001-2.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0005-2.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0008-2.jpg Thanks for viewing! Gaetan |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Wow, it looks good for a first attempt! Did you machine that yourself? Nice job.
|
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
I second that!
:D |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Thanks guys!
Yes I did :) It's my third job since I got my new tools some weeks ago. I love to play with them :D. Just need skill and knowledge now, and it's not the easy part ;). Ho... and I forgot to mention that the right one on the picture where you see two wheels is a stock Tamiya, just to compare :o In fact, it's mostly because I wanted ten holes wheels  |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Hi everyone,
Here's my first four rear wheels almost finished (some polishing...). http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0001_1.jpg Not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the results. They will move at the rear as the better ones will come ;) I'm working now on the inner wheels. I'll post better pics after these be done. Thanks for viewing, Gaetan |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Those wheels are very good for a first try at making them. Polishing aluminum is an art in itself. Very nice touch to finish your truck and trailers :D
|
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
I am well impressed. I know some people churn out tons of wheels, but they do it all the time. For you to turn out that quality at a first attempt is really amazing.

Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
The wheels look great!! What brand polish do you use?
|
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
great attempt at the wheels
|
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Thanks guys!
But I dont't think that "first attempt" is exactly the real term :D, I scrapped a couple of them in the learning process ;). The ones on the last picture are not polished except the third, althought I'm not sure it makes a big difference on the picture. There's one after some polishing. http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/...DSC_0002-2.jpg I used some type of littles abrasives sponges to obtain the finish (from 400 to 1400) on the first picture, and an silver polish named Sylvo on this one, but I'm not sure it's a good way... Maybe someone know? |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
go at them the same way you would on your 1:1. when I worked in an aluminum fab shop, we sanded with 1500 grit sandpaper, then used autosol for a cutting polish.(you can get a quart for under $50 at most truck stops). then go over it with a finishing polish, one with no grit in it. canadian tire stuff would work.
what did you use to make them, just a lathe? very nice work! |
Re: My steel coils B-train hauler
Thanks Goose19,
I also used a CNC mill to made them  So many things to know, althought it's a relatively easy design... But As I said, I have many others to do to complete all my rig and to date each one is better than the last, so they will move to the rear as better ones will be produced, keeping the best ones for the truck itself.
