Hi Joe,

thanx ;)

The distance between middle of the front axle and the first rear axle is 334mm.

Hi...

Thanx... ;)

During the last days I worked on the fifthwheel.

It will beopened by a servo and a switch is added from the MFC so that my own board is able to detect the connect.

The modified fifthwheel

that is great work i have 1 question do you have locking diffs ?

gismow 02-27-2018 03:51 PM

Re: Custom build of a Kenworth C509 as autralian roadtrain

Hi...

One axle has a self made lock activated by a servo and I must test it on the Track. The second axle will be modified if it works.

skeeter 02-28-2018 08:23 PM

Re: Custom build of a Kenworth C509 as autralian roadtrain

AWESOME! If it works, will you be posting video, &/or pics of how to do the diff locking mod(s)?

skeeter 02-28-2018 08:25 PM

Re: Custom build of a Kenworth C509 as autralian roadtrain

Mine are currently locked permanently. I used the old trick of adding an extra gear into the rear diff to do it. There are times I wish I was able to lock, & unlock without taking the diff apart!

LiPo can be used, provided the ESC has LiPo cutoff, OR that a LiPo screamer is used.

OK. SO I have a newbie question for y'all. Where does a guy find the plans and dimensions for the builds? I have looked high and low and got nothing for it. Is there some place to go to bu or download the plans?

Beetlemankurt 01-15-2022 03:16 PM

Re: Custom build of a Kenworth C509 as autralian roadtrain

Hey Farmpastor, great question and one I am struggling with too. In fact I’ve just emailed Kenworth Australia directly last week with a request around where best to access plans and will see what they say.

I’m picking that you have faced the same issue as me in that there are plenty of downloadable ‘blueprints’ available on the internet but none seem very accurate from what I’ve seen. The drawing used at the start of this thread that the OP has worked from is the type of quality I am after so I’m interested in their reply to your question too.

I’ve actually just ordered a 1:25 Revell plastic W900 model kit to scale up measurements from in combination with photo references off the net. I’ll use these as a base for my custom build.

To the OP, The truck in this thread is such an inspiring build and some great craftsmanship shown. Very nicely done!

Cheers, Kurt.

Re: Custom build of a Kenworth C509 as autralian roadtrain

That's always the tricky part!

Sometimes you can find a manufacturer or upfitter that has scaled drawings or blueprints posted somewhere on their site.
Sometimes you can do an image search of something like "ambulance drawings" or "ambulance blueprint" ''ambulance vector"
Other times ya just find some inspiration pictures you like, and make it up as you go. It's your world, madbe it needs some happy clouds

In RC customizing, rather than getting too hung up on this MUST be exactly 1/16 or 1/14 scale (or 1/13.5) it's usually a lot easier to start with picking a tire&wheel or a whole donor vehicle that looks or acts about right. Then adjust scale of the entire build to the wheels, or track width, or whatever makes sence with what you have available.

Nobody will get too uptight about the 1/10 Suzuki Samurai being larger than the 1/10 Chevy Suburban when they're both using the same chassis.

Start up a thread in like 'general rc' or 'body work' with a range of what you're looking for, somebody might be able to help ya track it down?

Zabco 01-17-2022 06:35 PM

Re: Custom build of a Kenworth C509 as autralian roadtrain

A good source of information that I use is to obtain what are often called "Body Builder Manuals". These are published by the various truck manufacturers and are full of drawings and dimensions of the trucks made by that manufacturer. These manuals are principally used by the makers of aftermarket bodies and equipment that will be mounted on those trucks. The manuals for modern trucks can usually be downloaded for free from the truck manufacturer's web sites. Manuals for older trucks were usually printed in bound books that often can be found for sale on line on sites like e-bay.
